While i mostly read non-game based stuff, like Terry Pratchett, the Warhammer novels can be really good. My favourite is Necromancer.

I'll read anything, rather enjoy a good cyber/steampunk novel of late. Star Trek books I'll go for, particularly ones by Peter David or in the "Corps of Engineers" series. Zombie fiction is good for a giggle as well. Also I LOVE spaceopera and have a major thing for the Honorverse books by David Webber.

I read Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Ramsey Campbell, T E D Klein(favourite), Robert Howard, Stephen King, Robert Bloch, and anyone associated with these authors, and supernatural horror in general, even Dean Koontz('Phantoms' the movie was meh, but I loved the novel- not that this is unique, I think most people read a book and like it more than the movie adaptation).

I'll give almost anything a try. I'm rather partial to graphic novels. Frank Miller is such a badass.

I just read posts here. Many of which I'm sure are fiction pretending to be truth. I don't read any other fiction right now, just non-fiction.

I laugh when I see game based novels in stores. Don't really read much of anything for the fun of it now a days... When I do, I prefer fiction.

Terry Pratchett
Jane Austen
Charles Dickens
Janet Evanovich
Oscar Wilde
Belinda Jones
C.S.Lewis
Roald Dahl
And quite a few others (many of whom won't have been heard of on the Escapist). I also like a lot of non fiction. Terry and Jane are my favourites.

I like crime/thrillers/easy-to-read (John Sandford, Tom Clancy, etc). Also a big fan of science fiction, but I find they can be hit-and-miss. I loved the Time Odyssey by Stephen Baxter, but then his other stuff is boring. I used to be big on fantasy, but I haven't been able to get into it lately. Raymond E. Fiest started writing for paycheques. Robert Jordan died, then he passed away. I'm still waiting for George RR Martin to release his next (It's in "Half Life: Episode 3 territory).

For some reason I've never been able to buy a gaming-related novel. It seems so... something. Are any of them any good? I don't mean "great literature" but if they're like a Tom Clancy novel set in the Gears of War or Halo universe, then they might be an enjoyable read.

I read both. I don't see why I need to pick one or the other. Books are books, and I'll read pretty much anything.
That said I've read a few boring/utter shit Doctor Who novels, but the Torchwood ones are all in hardcover, with Gareth David Lloyd on the cover... how can I not buy something so pretty?
