there always seems to be overlap with thease kinds of thingsBathorysGraveland2 said:I guess video gaming? I have no idea on what encompasses the "nerd" or "geek" stereotypes, as I don't label myself under them. Does reading/writing come under it? If so then I suppose it'd be that, as I'm an aspiring author. Does having a large interest in ancient history fall under it? If not, then definitely video games.
I dunno Vault, you come up with some brilliant avvys.Vault101 said:I'm not particually "smart" or have any knowlege in all those intulectual feilds...
Indeed. Neither "Geek" or "Nerd" really carry the same negative connotation that they once did. It's now more of which interest do you love to submerge yourself in. Something in which everbody can relate. As it should be.Vault101 said:there always seems to be overlap with thease kinds of thingsBathorysGraveland2 said:I guess video gaming? Damn! I don't know what to be more impressed by: the fact that you've read that many or that you've kept count. 0_oQueen Michael said:I've read 2,723 manga books. Go on, guess what subculture I'm part of.

its part of wanting to belong...a common human desireBoris Goodenough said:I feel it weird to identify myself with some sort of sub-culture, why is it so many people have to LIVE their hobbies? It is possible to enjoy something without it being all identifying, or so I have heard.

You can still belong without living it.Vault101 said:its part of wanting to belong...a common human desire
you underestimate the power a label can have....self applied or otherwise.why do you think we have such things as emo, goth, punk, skinhead, scene, otaku, gangsta, metalhead, biker, hipster?Boris Goodenough said:You can still belong without living it.
When people ask me if I believe, I say I don't, I don't say that I am an atheist unless asked specifically.
When people ask me if I am a gamer, I say I game.
When people ask if I am a nerd, I say I enjoy nerdy stuff.
Then again I am the odd one out most of the time, I've never been part of a clique, always going between groups without being ejected.
I have talked with my friends about these things and for the most part they agree on my stance, so I am not that weird afterall.
Oh I agree, I just think it's a tad odd to live one's hobby.Vault101 said:I guess my point is different things work for different people
