Simple question. What is the subculture within "geek culture" that you most often find yourself in?

I personally fit into the Anime/japan group but mingle in with gaming.

Anime/Manga and videogames.

Both available to me via computer and me being an introvert I an enjoy both all the time unlike say tabletop games where I need to group up friends with different time tables and blah blah hassle hassle.

Out of those options, videogaming.

Though I'd describe myself as a history-geek/comicbook-geek more I think.

Table-top, I guess. I know how to play more RPG systems than I really should.

I'd wager it's going to be majority for videogaming. I mean... this is essentially a website dedicated to video games and video game culture. No surprises from my answer though, definitely in that category myself seeing as I'm even attending school to learn how to make games myself.

I guess video gaming? I have no idea on what encompasses the "nerd" or "geek" stereotypes, as I don't label myself under them. Does reading/writing come under it? If so then I suppose it'd be that, as I'm an aspiring author. Does having a large interest in ancient history fall under it? If not, then definitely video games.

Video games...with a thing for action figures, I dont particually like the term gamer..it just seems weird to refer to oneself as that..my familiy started refered to me as "a gamer" and I found it embarrasing

oh and comic books too though I dont know much about eather of the big players universes

I also like "internet stuff" specifically analysing all those terrible movies that exist...my favorte online show is the Nostalga Chick

aside from that I'm not particually "smart" or have any knowlege in all those intulectual feilds...

Indeed. Neither "Geek" or "Nerd" really carry the same negative connotation that they once did. It's now more of which interest do you love to submerge yourself in. Something in which everbody can relate. As it should be.

OP: I'd click them all except table-top if I could. So I clicked other.

I feel it weird to identify myself with some sort of sub-culture, why is it so many people have to LIVE their hobbies? It is possible to enjoy something without it being all identifying, or so I have heard.

Damn! I don't know what to be more impressed by: the fact that you've read that many or that you've kept count. 0_o

I guess but I'm not like one of those "high iq sciency mathy" people

I think I tend to lean towards the "creative" stuff....like drawing an such...and I'm absolutely fascinated by all the stuff underneath story's (tropes, cliches, what makes a good story good or a bad story bad) I never really invested myself into anything "useful"

that and I noticed there are alot of writers around here

You're a bandgeek aren't you?

Is that 2,723 comic sized books (20-30 pages) or TPB sized (100-150), either way I'm impressed.

You can still belong without living it.
When people ask me if I believe, I say I don't, I don't say that I am an atheist unless asked specifically.
When people ask me if I am a gamer, I say I game.
When people ask if I am a nerd, I say I enjoy nerdy stuff.

Then again I am the odd one out most of the time, I've never been part of a clique, always going between groups without being ejected.
I have talked with my friends about these things and for the most part they agree on my stance, so I am not that weird afterall.

Somewhere in videogaming and Anime/ Japn. I don't consider well label myself as an Otaku since there are still a wide range of animes I still haven't seen yet and the same goes with videogames I haven't played yet.

you underestimate the power a label can have....self applied or otherwise.why do you think we have such things as emo, goth, punk, skinhead, scene, otaku, gangsta, metalhead, biker, hipster?

some people like calling themselves a nerd/geek/gamer and like the fact that the "culture" is this big thing they can feel a part of

other people don't label themselves...even if they do fit many of the stereotypes

the act of calling your self one of those labels doesn't always mean you define yourself by it entirly...what is a gamer/nerd/geek?

I guess my point is different things work for different people

Would have to go with videogaming, though I find it surprising that comics aren't on the poll, as they'd be a close second for me, and I'm sure I'm not the only, nor the biggest, comic book 'geek' here...

Oh I agree, I just think it's a tad odd to live one's hobby.
And totally unrelated I stumbled across this the other day:

Videogaming. Shelf upon shelf of games and a cabinet with 5 consoles all ready to go.

I used to do W40k tabletop but it got far too expensive to continue with what I planned to do.

To be quite honest, I don't really identify with any of them.

I know that I am one but I've never identified as a geek or a nerd.
