There's no story.

It just goes on and on and on.
Like real-life? That's basically what an MMO is. Guild Wars doesn't even have a cost.

MMO's are just another genre. Xbox Live costs money but there's less bitching to that?
Did you just equate an MMO to Real-Life?

Basically what it says.
i like MMOs for the most part. that said, i don't get sucked in as far as many others do. i've played a few and i usually last no more than a year. WoW kept me in for about 2.5 years before i stopped. but if another comes along that sparks my interest (Star Wars: Old Republic) i will certainly sign up.

No, I'm saying your life is about as entertaining as a moldy ham sandwich. An MMO is hardly story driven at all. However, at least it's not moldy.

there are free MMOs

Grind, repetition and lack of motivation for doing anything is the deal breaker.

Take the first five options, add them together, and you'll understand why I hate MMOs with every fragment of my soul.

ToR is only $10 a month!? I thought it would be $15! WOO!

Anyway, $10 a month is very reasonable if you like the game, I mean can you honestly say you get an average of 6 months of play out of all the new release console games you buy?
your only logic fail with this is you still have to pay for the initial game. so it'll be like 50-60 dollars when it comes out (in my country) and so paying for more after that is what throws many people (especially me) off of it, i fucking hate subscriptions for one game, i dont care that it pays for servers and dlc, i just dont want to pay for it.

I like MMOs, I really do, but I refuse to pay an extra $15 a month on top of the game's cost to play the damn thing. I kinda like the idea of lifetime subscriptions, but I'm not paying $300 for a game, ever. Thus I do not play MMOs.

Oh, and don't give me that "it pays for the servers and added content" shit. I get it, they have an excuse to charge for it, that doesn't make it worth the money.
ninja'd, i completely forgot to look for it.
And how much is WoW now? It's like nothing for the original game.

Not to mention, if you play for a year or more, that original game cost is so spread out over the months it becomes insubstantial anyway.
im not sure, but any other mmo especially that has come out in the past year is a decent chunk of money that is worth a non subscription game, and i have tons of games i go back and replay for over a year/years to come, so their costs get spread out too technically then
Your AVERAGE game gets you 4 months of play? I find that a bit hard to believe.

I don't like to pay the monthly fee , haven't found a MMO that I would play enough to justify that kind of expense

No you didn't say that, but I chose "average" game because if MMO's give you more hours of play than your average console purchase for the same price, it makes no sense to complain about the price.

Yeah, everybody has "some" that last that long, but on average?

And this is assuming you actively play for all four of the months, I don't believe that you play any of your non subscription games more than twice a week for 2 years.

That people care more about gear and experience rather than the scenery and the world itself. I swear I'm getting sick and tired of being barked by people who have less of a life enough to care more about gear and exp than their actual lives. I'd rather have fun and adventure all the while getting cool stuff in a game. Having an obligation to work hours of time to get that gear isn't fun anymore, it's boring and repetitive. World of Warcraft really has lost its luster.

Gameplay doesn't tend to feel as immersive as I'd like. Feels like you're just telling the character what to do, rather than being the character.

The only MMO I really love is Guild Wars. Guild Wars actually does have a storyline, and even if you beat the storyline with one character, you can do it with another character of another profession for more ways to play, AND there are two more campaigns to beat, AND an expansion upon the three campaigns. Most other MMOs are grind fests, which are boring.

MMOs feel like work after a while, especially if you're really good at them.

also, I'd probably still be playing WoW if not for Blizzard messing with warriors, making my almighty fury warrior completely useless.

There is no room for adventure.

I remember getting lost in Dark Age of Camelot and found a town in the middle of nowhere. Granted, it was a new "hard to get to" area of the world but it was still fun and unexpected. Also, it was quite a "dark" game, as in, when it was night, it's pitchblack. You had to have some kind of lightsource to see where you're going.

MMO's these days are just "themepark after themepark". World of Warcraft is just one of the offenders. When the game was new, going to Ashenvale or even the Barrens was exciting, but it was pretty "meh" after a while, as it was quickly accessible. However pretty Ashenvale, or Duskwood might be, it's not really fun anymore, nor are any other zone either.

Turbine did a good job on this however with Lord of the Rings Online. To complete everything, or see every sight, takes time but, you don't really have to. And to get to a certain location, it takes quite some time and you feel rewarded when you do. In WoW, this was almost a punishment somehow. That, or players (even me) have become lazy?

Perhaps this is why I enjoy The Elder Scrolls, Elite and most rpgs more than MMO's. I couldn't give a fuck about some high-ranking arena rogue wants and needs, or for some asshole who thinks gearscore is a good measure of 'skill', that's not why I play a fantasy game... but I still want to play with others. I somehow feel that "my" game haven't been made yet.

well it actually does. i dont want to keep paying for something for the same game a monthly fee, i know the reasons behind them charging, but i dont play one single game that much. ever. i dont care what you say its just ONE game that much gets boring to me, no matter how many different quetss and whatnot there is.

and yes actually, i KNOW which games i like and dont like, and the ones i do pick up are gems and i have been actively been playing them for years

kotor/jade empire/dragon age/mass effect/gears of war/socom/halo/final fantasy

(im gonna test out baldurs gate I and II soon

i switch between all those games in a perfect cycle year round, i tend to throw an odd game or two in there, otherwise those games you will always see me playing a few times a year at the least, all those games have lived way past their costs and i get to play them when i want to,for free.

and obviously many people on here agree with me if you go through the posts and the poll, we dont want subscription fees, especially for one game. if you want to thats perfectly fine, but the games i have where i dont have to pay for that have kept me more than happy enough and obviously alot of other people too, otherwise we would all creep to mmo's eventually.
