Poll: What would you do if you found a Death Note

For anyone who hasn't seen the anime, the death note is a mystical book where you can kill anyone by simply imagining their face and writing their name, so you can kill anyone if you know their name and face. They come from Shinigamis whom are death gods.

Imagine you find a death note dropped by a shinigami, whom explains how it works and shows you proof of it working without killing anyone. What would you do with it?

When i say use it sparingly I mean you use it very infrequently writing the names of people you view as extremely bad/evil, your essentially writing a few names a year if any.

When i say using it extensively i mean you use it frequently writing the names of people you view as bad/evil, to the extent your writing a names everyday.

EDIT: I didn't mention that using it may result in you staying in the Death God world after death, as a Death Note user can't go to heaven or hell when they die, although in the Anime we don't definitively see this happen to a death note user.

Option 1. I mean the power I have in my hands is quite scary. I could cause WW3 by writing down a couple names, that is really scary for me. People are not meant to have that much control over life and death. Even the best of people could become cold killers, killing people for the stupidest reasons. That thing is getting burned.

Edit: To the people who are not burning it, you really need to think about your decision. You're underestimating the power you have in your hands. You say you'll only kill people who deserve it, but can you prove that they deserve it? Can you honestly tell me that after a bad day at work/school, that you won't go home and kill the bastard you made it bad? I think some of you are putting way to much trust in yourselves. I would consider myself a generally good person, but I don't think I could handle that power. It would change me. No one on earth deserves this power.

Okay now I feel like the minority. To be honest, I'd use it for the same reasons Light used it before he got corrupted by power. Because by god wouldn't it be awesome to write in my death note and listening to some epic orchestra, choir music.

I'd do what Light did, but I wouldn't be stupid enough to get caught doing it until I was in a secure position.

I'd be a just ruler. allowing for personal liberty in exchanges for just not being a dick to other people... if you're a dick, you're going in the Note. I mean like a massive dick, not just a generally angry or aggressive person, but y'know global dicks.

I would keep it, but only use it in the most dire circumstances.

So yeah, to try and avoid being corrupted with power, it would work like that.

Hard to tell how I would react and what I would do without actually experiencing it. The first thing I'd do is definitely do some heavy research into what will happen to the user and I'd get as much detail about it as possible. It's not worth considering anything if one ends up seizing to exist upon death or the likes if one has used the thing.

Chances are I'd introduce it to Mr Fire though or keep it around to see if anyone came for it.

Its been a bit since I've watched the Anime but I think the only downside is you don't get to go to hell or heaven, you have to go to the death god world and become a Shinigami when you die.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'd use it for that but little else. I don't believe in the death penalty but if someone (like the head of a terrorist organization) is fully intent on killing as many people as possible then I find it difficult in letting them live if I have the ability to stop them.

Use it for personal gain I guess, although I can't really think of any way to do that discreetly. So, failing that, keep it and use it for laughs.

Like, say, completely screwing with world politics by killing every US president on the day of his inauguration.

I mean, you could set out by explaining to yourself that you are committing murder for 'the greater good', but who knows what kind of slippery slope such power could cause?

Also, I'm not party to the idea of murdering someone for benefit.

Which could mean any leader depending on which country you were born in :/. Somehow i'm not convinced.

OT: Personal gain definately. I'm not going to pretend to do anything for the sake of the world, while i find the holier-than-thou attitude the escapists members have amusing, i'll be honest and use it for anything that benefits me. The best part is that you can write the corcumstances of the persons death.

Also fuck the shinigami eyes, that's why we have facebook.

Otherwise...hm. There are people in the world I would like to see dead, but I would also fear myself having that kind of power.
