Heh, you ended up having your thread flooded with people who drink neither... I'm part of the crowd! Yay!

I never drink coffee - just hate the taste - and almost never drink alcohol. Something like a beer or a glass of wine in three months.

That being said, most of the people I know are either addicted to coffee or have a similar relationship with their beers. Does that actually count as an addiction if you drink a beer every other night and can't imagine your life without it, yet if for some reason you end up not drinking for two weeks everything's fine?

I drink both. Coffee every morning, and a cold beer after the sauna.

It's hard for me to answer your question, I live in Finland, where both said substances are used heavily. If someone tells me they don't drink alcohol, I find it wierder than if they say don't drink coffee.

Coffee is, after all, bound to four tastes, if you count milk and sugar. So if you do not like the taste, that hardly turns anyone's world up-side-down. Alcoholic beverages however, they all taste different, and there's bound to be something that you like. Granted, people show their inner self when they're drunk, so if that's a moody, violent side, I do understand why they don't. However, I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't turn very happy when they drink, myself included.

But as I said, I've grown up with a quite liberal relationship to alcohol. My parents always asked me if I wanted a glass of wine for dinner after I turned 14, and I was always allowed a beer after the sauna if I asked first. Thus, the first time I got really drunk was one week before my 18th birthday. I turned out just fine, too! *twitch*

TL;DR

Not drinking alcohol is wierder.

I think it's weird to think not taking drugs makes you weird.

I do drink both on occasion, but never regularly.

Slightly weirder not to like coffee, but even if someone said they didn't I wouldn't be too surprised. And most people I suspect don't drink alcohol due to the consequences rather than the taste.

I was having an argument with a friend today. We were arguing over what was weirder, a person not drinking alcohol or a person not drinking coffee. We didn't real have any real reasoning, but I this is the one friend I have (male or female) who doesn't drink alcohol and one of about 2 or 3 who actually start their day with a coffee. I think that (at our age at least 17-18) it's probably weirder to not drink alcohol as I when my friends come round, I don't offer them a coffee...

Thoughts?
O-M-G! Pople not conforming!? What am I supposed to think, how can I make decisions that are contrary to the general population!?

Teenagers who drink coffee think it makes them look like adults, or because they're copying something they saw in; Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, The OC, 90210, insert generic teen drama here. Coffee tastes rank, fact.

Alcohol, like religion is just a simple drug to help the masses forget how droll their lives are.

EDIT: What is weird is that you're so blinded by your own lifestyle that you find other people's unusual.
I hope you were being tongue-in-cheek when you posted this.
Nope, I wasn't

So you really think that because you don't like coffee, it's a fact that it's disgusting?

That the only reason people drink coffee is to conform and alcohol to dull the mind?

If you seriously think that then I am sorry but you are a tool.

I don't drink tea, except when visiting my Nan (which is very rare because I live in a different part of the country to her). I also happen to be English.

Mainly I drink coffee, I literally live on caffeine (in fact, I'm about to make a cuppa now), but alcohol I reserve for nights out. And I know several teetotal people. Hence I'd say out of the two, not drinking coffee is weirder. However, it's perfectly fine really to drink neither, or both.

I'm the same, but pretty much all of my friends think I'm very weird.

To me coffee is horrible, I'm sure it's an acquired taste, I know it's not disgusting to everyone, I was joking there.

A lot of people drink coffee as a result of peer pressure, they carry on because it's addictive.

Most people drink alcohol to 'relax' or to help them deal with their problems. I would argue that the majority do so to dull the mind yes.

You really shouldn't make direct attacks.

I don't drink coffee at all, however do ocasionally drink alcohol. So, in my book, it's neither.

Yes, mine think the same.
I asked them why they thought it was so weird and eventually one of them admitted that it made him feel better about himself when everyone was drinking.
