HAHAHAHAHAAHHA, its far more than 17 to 20. There have been polls that show that the primary age range is 12 to 24....

Okay, I didn't see it in here. This thread reminded me of a fake movie trailer that www.Black20.com did years ago. I miss those guys. Anyways, this is a bit creepy, so keep your skiddish little girls away from it...

So I just watched an episode...

A land full of only females, cynically designed to look like various social subsets of teenage girls - permanently stuck on all fours.

Seems clear why people like it.
My Little Pony = Subtle Duke Nukem Forever?

Oh dear god, Ban this sick filth!

And here I was thinking it would be exceedingly hard to interpret misogyny into a show about glittering toy ponies and some male fans fawning over them like someone who took the child-at-heart perk twice.

Of course, children can be cruel...

Good entertainment knows no gender. The 'It's for little girls' argument is null and void cuz, obviously, people other than little girls like the show. A lot of people it seems.

Besides, other than it having ponies and bright colors there's nothing that really says, this is only for little girls.

Now am I going to make it a point to tell my old ass(pull your pants up) dad that I like this show. Hell no, he might disown me.

My dad wondered what I was doing on my laptop and asked so I told him and he was like "Son I am Disappoint" walked away for a bit then he asked to see it and now he's a fan. I woke up the next day to him singing "When I was a little filly and the sun was going dooooown" while he was doing yard work.

I'm not gonna try to watch it. Why? Because I KNOW I'd like it. It has colorful and well designed characters (one of the top reasons I like things) and the plots and such will probably endear me to it. But I also know what I'm like. I'd watch one episode, like it, but switch off Youtube because "it's just a waste of time watching something for its own sake." It isn't a video game where I might have a shiny achievement for it. It isn't a webcomic where I'd be able to add it to my long list of webcomics that I read (I'm trying to see how many I can keep up with). It's just a time waster and I'd just irritate myself if I gave myself the chance to.

God I need therapy...

Let's be honest, what normal guy watches a show made for little girls?
in my mind (and i know a lot of other girls who would agree with me), it's "manlier" to like what you like and act on that, ignoring social stigma and the ignorance of trolls, than to mindlessly follow the crowd. good shows are good shows, no matter their target audience, and people can like whatever they want.
Honesty isn't ignorance nor trolling. Please don't confuse the two. I think it is "manlier" to act your age and enjoy what is supposed to be enjoyed with maturity than to watch something intended for children, unless of course you are a child.
A good child's show has many different aims than a good show made for adults.
Example:
My Little Pony - Colourful, relevant to children. No need to worry about script, storyline, character progression.
Oz - Relevant to adults, convincing acting, script, storyline, character progression.

Saying people can like whatever they want is merely enabling immaturity.
why can't they like both? Who say it's immature of me to watch and enjoy something like my little pony and then enjoy watching something like district 9 later on?

I see Mazty is as charming as ever.

It's a good show, I really enjoy watching it. Don't really like the fanbase and the whole 'Brony' thing too much though, but ignoring it works for me.

Yeah, I like it, for many reason: IT'S FUCKING AWESOME.

I kind of compare My Little Pony to Looney Tunes: yes, it can appear to be dumb, it was marketed toward children and the main characters are talking animals, but it's not like you can't sit down and enjoy it.

It feels like a show that was made for kids, with the idea that older people (Parents, babysitters, older siblings) would be watching it too.
After watching the first episode, I feel no pressing need to see what happens next, but if i was asked if i want to watch it, assuming I wasn't busy with something else, I'd probably indulge.

Guys...I have to tell somepony this...

Today I was called a furry because I said i was bronie.
I argued I wasn't furry because the ponies weren't anthropomorphised.
The other guy sitting next to me then turned to me with a very serious look on his face and asked:
"Isn't that worse?"

...perhaps I should have instead argued I wasn't furry because i wasn't sexually attracted to the ponies.

:'(

And no offence furries, I have nothing against you guys.

It's sort of boring and not very funny. I can see why this kind of stuff catches on with pre-teen girls but I cannot for the life of me fathom the 'brony' thing. It's odd to say the least, and I get the feeling that most of the guys doing are just doing because they're hipsters, basically. There are many better things to form cults about, like cannibalism or something halfway decent Prof. Brian Cox's hair.

In my opinion people who make blanket assumptions and call it honesty to passive aggressively attack other people are most likely freaks and socially inept.
Let's be honest, what normal guy would try passive aggressively attacking other people for liking something he has absolutely no clue about other than his preconceived notions with have no backing.

Just being honest.

to which plotline are you referring, that isn't well acted and scripted, in which the characters don't learn from their experiences, or only relevant to children? the show deals mostly with how to navigate fairly complex social situations. children's shows are written by adults, after all, and they're often the kind of adults who realize that most of the problems we see with people are present because we forget the basic lessons we learned as children:
-don't judge a book by its cover/embrace the differences in people (episode 9)
-don't break your word or betray someone's trust (episode 20)
-planning and organization help people work together more smoothly (episode 11)
-always try new things and look for a purpose in life from things you do well or enjoy (episodes 12 & 18)
-all interpersonal relationships require effort from all parties involved to make them last (the entire show)

the voice acting is great, as is the art, the characters are just as dynamic in any adult show i've seen. i'm glad you used Oz as an example-i've seen it and i like it just as much as you seem to, but i can still recognize the good things in MLP and they're not really all that dissimilar in their basic parts. there may not be a lot of action in MLP, but there are plenty of mature themes-more than i've seen in most adult-targeted shows, Oz included. there's a lot to be said for shows that are thought up as teaching tools and benefit from incorporating mature themes, and writing them off just because the characters are horses instead of people is silly and narrow-minded.

Well...I don't know why but I seem to be feeling a very slight attraction to them. I'm not a furry or anything so I have no clue...maybe the eyes.
