What I'd like to know, is how many of the people swept up in this craze would openly admit it to family/friends/partners were they directly asked?

If they said "There is this following of the new My Little Pony show, are you a part of it?" How many would outright, and unashamedly say "Yes, I am?"

I don't think many would, although I could be wrong.
I would and in fact did, some of my family are now also hooked on it.

They are freaks. And most likely socially inept.
Let's be honest, no normal guy watches a show made for little girls.
While i somewhat agree with you, you should try to reword that post overwise their's a nice probation coming your way.

Done & done.
The exceedinly liberal slant the moderation is taking nowadays is somewhat rediculous.
Ah, that's much better.

It's better to be on a moderators good side, i learned that the hard way.

This is where your obvious insulting argument falls down. As stated previous this is written by Laura Faust who did PPG and Fosters, PPG being one of the best cartoons of the late ninteens and watched by majority of kids regardless of sex since seeing mojojo get his ass kicked once again was just clearly entertaining.

Your clearly making a distinction of the characters portrayed as being the intended audience which is also like saying that Team America is intended for fans of puppets.

I must say it was indeed a bit embarrassing when I first told people about it but now my whole family, and just about all my friends and a few co-workers, know it and a few like it too. We have some good laughs out of it between us bronies and neighsayers. ^_^

So what I'm getting from this thread is that if a something is intended primarily for young children then grown men shouldn't watch it. Boy do I feel bad for watching avatar now.

So I just watched an episode...

A land full of only females, cynically designed to look like various social subsets of teenage girls - permanently stuck on all fours.

Seems clear why people like it.

Fair enough - I just didn't see any in the ten minutes I managed to watch before getting bored.

To keep from getting in trouble with the mods due to low content and to avoid de-railing this whole thing with random pony pics; I just have to say that Derpy Hooves is my favorite pony for a reason. She pretty much embodies why I'm so interested in MLP:FiM right now; the memes associated with it. She has little importance in the show itself, but has grown to something so much more than what she was (a random background pony) within the fan-culture.
It's funny because he/she (?) hasn't had a single line of dialogue yet. And I hope they keep it that way!
From what I've learned about her (I believe it's canon, or at least fanon, that Derpy Hooves is indeed female) she was originally a background pony who someone noticed had the derpy eyes.
Apparently Lauren Faust noticed the popularity of her and decided to put her in a couple more episodes. I've read that the only line she has ever said is "muffin", but I can't confirm that myself, as I have yet to watch that episode if it is indeed true.
And it appears that I was ninja'd about that last fact.
I'm pretty sure that Lauren Faust is so self aware by now that her eyes can see the inside of her head xD

in my mind (and i know a lot of other girls who would agree with me), it's "manlier" to like what you like and act on that, ignoring social stigma and the ignorance of trolls, than to mindlessly follow the crowd. good shows are good shows, no matter their target audience, and people can like whatever they want.

Jeez, not everyone can enjoy it guys. Ten minutes is half of an episode! That's more of a chance than I'd give any other cartoon for little girls and... people into horses.

I feel like I just offended some dogmatic cultish creed or something... maybe you guys should call yourselves 'Pony-ologists' :p
