Well... it's good. It's well written, well animated, has a formula that doesn't leave it entirely predictable until about half way through an episode, and it's funny. Also, the stories are unpredictable. One episode you have a pretty standard plot of a pony working to hard, the next you have a vain pony being carried underground to be used as forced labor by Gollum dogs. That's some variety.

So I just watched an episode...

A land full of only females, cynically designed to look like various social subsets of teenage girls - permanently stuck on all fours.

Seems clear why people like it.
Whaaa...? That's uh... some way to look at it.

I haven't seen it once, and I can't understand the fascination with it, unless it's some kind of failed ironic statement.
I don't visit 4chan. I don't really take part in all that meme tom-foolery. I don't care about my perceived status on the internet because, well, it's the internet. And yet, I love the newest incarnation of My Little Pony.

Having said that, let me ask you a question:

If I didn't really like the show, then why would I put effort into defending its virtues? I mean really, nobody would BLAME me for hating it, and it's not like I have anything to gain from telling that sort of lie. Indeed, were it a fact that I actually disliked the show, I would only be hurting myself and my interests by aligning myself in such a way. The obvious and most logical conclusion, then, is that I actually enjoy MLP:FIM due entirely to its own merit, which I and many others feel is extensive.
To each their own, I say. I'm not saying it's a horrible show based on it being MLP alone, in fact I finally broke down and watched an episode last night and thought it was alright. I just really can't understand how interest gets piqued, with me only checking it out to see what all the noise was about.
That's exactly how it happens, I think. At least, that's how it happened to me.

Tell you what; to stop certain people moaning about being overwhelmed with Pony threads, just start using this one instead [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.279145-Poll-Yet-Another-God-Damn-My-Little-Pony-Thread] and leave this one to, as it were stud.

That's a horrible image but legitimately the only equine-related turn of phrase I could think of.

People like the show. It is honestly good. However, heterosexual males find it humorous that they have the capacity to like such a program as it is not exactly masculine. Hence, it humors them with its content and they humor themselves with their ability to find humorous the content of the show.

I believe you mean in "droves." Troves means a collections of treasures.

Oddly enough, you prove your own point.
Yes. One simple typo. I must be stupid. Because one slip up is an accurate measure of intelligence.

The five stages of MLP fandom:

1. "This show is about ponies? Gay"

2. "Ok. Fine. Everyone is talking about this show. Might as well watch an episode"

3. "Well, that was pretty good. I got some time; let's see the next episode."

4. "Wow, this is amazing. I can't believe that I watched every episode!"

5. "Dammit, the newest episode is delayed. Time to just search My Little Pony youtube video to pass the time."

Also, I found this on a recent thread:

We are "Bronies", who replace "body" with "pony" whenever the opportunity is present. If we are dedicated to puns, we are dedicated to the Colt. So darn skippy I'm shoehorning it.
Fair enough, every Brony and everypony should do the same!
Quit horsing around, this conversation is just getting filly.

The puns are flowing! I JUST. CAN'T. CLOP!
I remember hearing about one horse that would only race in the dark - it was a real night mare. Be careful when making jokes about a race horse - you never know when they'll take a fence.
As long as someone doesn't stirrup any trouble, I say we roam with it. Wouldn't want to rein in the fun.
time lord i'm just quoting you because i want to as why isn't your favorite pony isn't dr. whoof?

I am not in doubt of your skills as a typist. I believe that it was a shortcoming of your vocabulary. As for discrediting you based on one simple error: I feel it only fair considering your baseless condemnation of a vast amount of people that you feel somehow superior to.
I said I highly doubt most of the fans. And while it is true I do feel superior to the vast amount of stupid people of the world, it is not baseless. Every day I see and hear about the endeavors of stupid people and can only conclude people are more inclined to be stupid than not. (as opposed to most people being either good or bad)

Maybe i'm old, or maybe it's because i'm a girl, but i hated both those shows.

Nowadays I can't even search for the old, good MLP, or even the less good but still good MLPTales. All that shows up is this 'friendship is magic' thing that is tearing my childhood happiness to pieces, putting it into a blender, and forcing me to drink it while stomping on my heart.

I hate you lady who created this show. I hate you with every fiber of my being and hope you choke on the cocaine you buy with the money you make off this show. Because that is the only way to make something so awful. With large amounts of cocaine.
I haven't felt this much disgust about nostalgia since "Heavens to Metroid". Like Bob Chipman, you dismiss the new because it dares to not be from your precious childhood. Besides, you hate Lauren "Powerpuff" Faust; you clearly have no soul.
Why? Because I find her art style appalling? I never liked powerpuff girls as a child. Most people who are fans of the FiM craze are adult males. I have no problem with people liking other things. I've actually seen 2 episodes of this show. The characters lines and voices are like cheesegraters, the artstyle is pretty much what Faust usually does, like rainbow vomit, the storylines just seem laughable at times.

Yes I am a bit upset that I can't search and find anything from the old MLP. Is that why i think FiM is bad? No. It's because the ponies are whiny and the plotlines are stupid.

And yes, i do hate Lauren "Powerpuff" Faust's work. I disliked powerpuff girl, was mildly apathetic to its departure, I hated Fosters, was glad to see it go, and i will do a backflip once FiM is on its way out the door.

It has nothing to do with nostalgia dear 'Brony'. I don't like the show, I don't like her work, and i'm mildly upset that a search for My Little Pony shows nothing but Fim.

Also it would help my opinion of the show greatly if you and your fellow Bronies would kindly stop trying to make me like it and calling me 'soulless' just because I don't, because I find it bad, even without comparing it to the original and tales.

Best cartoon show I've seen in years. I'd easily rank it with the Power Puff Girls and Home for Monsters...not surprisingly, all three shows have/had many of the same creative team members. And MLP is being put out by McCracken's wife, who's worked with him on some of his shows.

And the fan reaction to this is just plain tremendous, clearly taking a lot of non-fans by surprise. Kind of like this:
