And I don't mean with just with girls. I have several guy friends who are 17 to over 20 and like it. One of them draws em'. I don't knock it but it's a might bit weird.
So, really why do guys like em.
And adding on why do you like / dislike the whole thing, and do you think it's weird that some men (don't know how big it is) like it.
The new series (_My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic_) is, well, just really good. It's got strong, (mostly) consistent characterizations, believable plots, and likable characters. A bit odd, yes, but it's quite good.

I must admit, I saw this thread and thought you were talking about the show that was on when I was growing up. Then I went to VG cats and he had a comic and a few links up. I had no idea there was a new series out, let alone that it apparently already has one season under its belt. This show looks interesting. I wish they had it on a station I actually got. Hopefully they'll release a DVD so I can check it out without having to boot up my computer and search through all the youtube stuff.
And guys like Sailor Moon (myself included), so I see no problem liking a show about magical girl ponies with special elements like harmony, laughter, loyalty...okay, when put that way I can see why some people might think it's a wee bit odd that guys like this show.

It is a fun show and people like it. Why must such a big deal be made out of it?
Who knows? I'm just glad that most of the threads that ask about the show and such are not started by the members of the group.

I've watched all of the episodes, it's fun, I don't exactly find it to be the gem everyone says it is but it's not bad. I would say it is definitely trying to be 'Cute' first and 'Funny' second, which makes sense given the target audience.

I think so many people are going crazy over it because it is 'better than it should be', as my brother put it. Which is to say: It's a show for little girls, but there is still just enough entertainment value for older audiences to not shy away from it. Like a reverse hype, people expect it to not be entertaining, so any amount they do find from it is multiplies by the 'Wow I can't believe this is actually good!' factor.
Although I think it helped that so many Cartoon buffs were actually psyched over the series simply because of Lauren Faust.

I don't really think people are simple though, so personal taste does probably play into a greater factor. I don't, by any means, think that the show is bad or that people are 'wrong' in enjoying it. Like many good things, people tend to make it out to be better than it is though.
Nailed it. The curiosity of the avatars/image macros/whatever gets the viewer to come, generally the disbelief at the actually quality of a My Little Pony show gets the viewer to stay a bit longer, well-written scripts and likeable characters keep the viewer there. And that formula is surprisingly successful.

Not fond of the show, just fond of the things it spawns.
That's the other thing. Let's face it, nothing is good enough alone to garner a person's attention like MLP, WoW, popular RPGs in general, Minecraft, etc. or anything else, like they have. But when the fanbase starts creating content, expading the fandom and making it more enjoyable for those in it and some of those not interested in it, that's where we see big followings. This has/is happening to MLP.

It also helps that in this particular case the vast majority of the members who are interested in it are fairly enjoyable and (generally) not overbearing with pony macros, threads, and the like (come on, you went on a pony thread, what did you expect to find?).

You know, you are very quick on the draw. Every pony thread that gets made here you are always within the first five posts.

OT: It's a good show that doesn't treat the target audience like idiots, and is made by a smart woman by the name of Lauren Faust, who was also involved in the making of Fosters' Home for Imaginary Friends and Powerpuff Girls.

Also Inb4 massive picture dumps of ponies.
Well if it's a cult it's a pretty big one based on all the threads and stuff I've seen about it. Thankfully the cult feels pretty good about their new love which is a good thing because all it would take is some guilt and BANG! We'd have MLP the religion! The last thing we need is Saint Pinky Pie, god that even sounds like the patron saint of porn.

As for myself I haven't seen it but am just as curious what has not guys but people over 18 loving a cartoon so much. I love cartoons myself (when I had cable I used to really enjoy Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends in fact as well as the rare gem that was The Adventures of Juniper Lee) but get a lot of flack for it, I think it's cool that people are standing up and liking what they like regardless of what society wants to tell them to like. Keep it up! It'll probably make things easier on us Avengers and Justice League fans!

From what I can tell, people like it because it's a good show. I've watched several episodes and while I'm not hooked like others, I didn't find myself bored out of my mind. I laughed a bit at the jokes and silliness. Apparently some people started to like it, spread the word (I believe the epicenter of the whole thing was /co/), got other people watching it, those people started liking it, and they told two friends, who told two friends, who told two friends...

That being said, my major interest in the whole thing is the potential for memes with this thing, whether it be in combination with other established memes or creation of it's own. That and the reaction at large to this whole phenomena. Hater v. brony wars can be incredibly fun to watch sometimes.

And with those words, I'll leave you with Derpy Hooves.

Well, the Colt is just under 200 members currently, and as for the specifics of it I happen to serve Lady Fluttershy of the Six.

If you're interested, go to Youtube and find Masterlinkx, he has all the episodes in high quality available for your viewing pleasure.

It's as simple as the fact that it is a good show. I would say on par with Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Perhaps even better.
Them be fighting words. When I eventually watch it, it has a high standard to live up to now (I'm aware its by the same person though, so that makes me hopeful).

OT: I have yet to see the show, as stated above. Not really on my list of things to do, but I'm open to giving it a chance.

To answer your question, I'm assuming its a mixture of A) they enjoy the show, and B) its a show that most people wouldn't expect 20 year olds or so to enjoy, therefore its cool in a way to express said enjoyment.
Maybe i'm old, or maybe it's because i'm a girl, but i hated both those shows.

Nowadays I can't even search for the old, good MLP, or even the less good but still good MLPTales. All that shows up is this 'friendship is magic' thing that is tearing my childhood happiness to pieces, putting it into a blender, and forcing me to drink it while stomping on my heart.

I hate you lady who created this show. I hate you with every fiber of my being and hope you choke on the cocaine you buy with the money you make off this show. Because that is the only way to make something so awful. With large amounts of cocaine.

Honestly, that's the only way I can describe it too. It just popped up over-night at the start of the month and now it's everywhere. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, to be honest.

But yeah, it's the new thing to like. It's sort of like how Minecraft became popular, now I think about it. Word of mouth and all that jazz.
well yeah, sometimes things just become popular out of nowhere, like zynga

Yeah, it seems as soon as a pony thread dies down a new one is started up again in a day or two.

Well, at least we haven't seen a Zombie thread in a while... though we did have 3 "recommend me" thread in the past few days although only 2 of the 3 were anime ones at least. And right now there's the monthly (not weekly) thread about Chivalry up... Probably a ton of repeat thread this week which I already forgot about though.

Well this particular repeat thread tend has only been happening for about 5 days though at least. Eventually when no one has any questions about it, the haters of it just begin ignoring its existence and the fans of it stick to talking about it in the user group or on a MLP forum else where it will stop being a daily thread topic.

We are "Bronies", who replace "body" with "pony" whenever the opportunity is present. If we are dedicated to puns, we are dedicated to the Colt. So darn skippy I'm shoehorning it.

I'm really sorry you feel that way. I hope you don't let the new stuff ruin your memories of the old show.

I like cute things, unessicary musical numbers, and power puff girls sense of humor. Also its a cult. Hooray cults!
