Wait... wat?

So you just said that this show is currently brainwashing today's children into obsessing over it when they're older?

Guys...I have to tell somepony this...

Today I was called a furry because I said i was bronie.
I argued I wasn't furry because the ponies weren't anthropomorphised.
The other guy sitting next to me then turned to me with a very serious look on his face and asked:
"Isn't that worse?"

...perhaps I should have instead argued I wasn't furry because i wasn't sexually attracted to the ponies.

:'(

And no offence furries, I have nothing against you guys.
Sorry, but I'm afraid you're wrong. The characters in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ARE in fact anthropomorphised. The definition of anything that has been made "anthropomorphic" is giving a characteristic that is typical only to humans to a non human object.

For instance the ponies can talk, they often use their "hooves" to hold or move things, they sit at tables and eat food from plates etc... they even have a society which is based more around a human society than anything animalistic.

I'm proud to call myself both a Furry AND a Brony, but don't worry, I'm pretty certain you can be a Brony and not be a Furry. But just for the record, not ALL Furries are sexually attracted to anthros, that's a commonly held misconception. MOST are, admittedly, but some are not.
Yes well technically you're right :p
I did mean in the physical sense alone however, is there a word for that?

Ponies are trolls. That is their only intention. The people who actually watch the show were probably just stupid enough follow anything that is "popular."

AH! So it was you!

If you look somewhere in the 168 page backlog, I tried to, but I couldn't remember who's idea it was XD

I thought it was Impulse's XD

Hmm I'm not sure. I guess you could say the ponies are anthropomorphosized but that they are not "anthros." Typically any animal/human hybrid character is referred to as an anthro so you can use that term if it makes you feel better. :3

Don't worry, you're not a furry yet. You'll know when it happens...!

It is a really good show with decent animation and with good characters and writing. Though it can't beat the epicness that is:
It's just 20% and over cooler than FiM and has John DiMaggio in the main cast, very good and better catchy music, candy cannibalistic rave parties, Punk Rock vampire queens, and

Not saying that FiM sucks, but I kinda wish MLP would do and get away with more stuff like that Adventure Time does. Also, maybe inject some Nightmare Fuel into the show as well to make things more.....interesting.

I don't really care for it either way but some of the fans are beginning to really get on my nerves.

And yet you still wander into threads abut it, for random My Little Pony fans to quote you and annoy you further. Like I've just done.

I have to say, I admire your determination.

It's a cult. That's the only thing I can think of.
Honestly, that's the only way I can describe it too. It just popped up over-night at the start of the month and now it's everywhere. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, to be honest.

But yeah, it's the new thing to like. It's sort of like how Minecraft became popular, now I think about it. Word of mouth and all that jazz.
Didn't pop up this month. Pony threads have been floating around /b/ and other places quite frequently since about January. Also, the fact that it has an impossible cute-factor. Not fair. Haha.

Ah, well either way, the 80's MLP is entirely different from this generation.

It bears absolutely no similarity

I really don't get this pony craze at all. Grown men being sucked into something that was designed originally to market to little girls? WHAT'S HAPPENING TO US?!

Everything old is new again I guess... but My Little Pony? Really?

Well, it is by the same mind that made The Powerpuff Girls & Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. That definitely helps. A LOT.

In my opinion they are most likely freaks and probably socially inept.
Let's be honest, what normal guy watches a show made for little girls?
in my mind (and i know a lot of other girls who would agree with me), it's "manlier" to like what you like and act on that, ignoring social stigma and the ignorance of trolls, than to mindlessly follow the crowd. good shows are good shows, no matter their target audience, and people can like whatever they want.
Honesty isn't ignorance nor trolling. Please don't confuse the two. I think it is "manlier" to act your age and enjoy what is supposed to be enjoyed with maturity than to watch something intended for children, unless of course you are a child.
A good child's show has many different aims than a good show made for adults.
Example:
My Little Pony - Colourful, relevant to children. No need to worry about script, storyline, character progression.
Oz - Relevant to adults, convincing acting, script, storyline, character progression.

Saying people can like whatever they want is merely enabling immaturity.
why can't they like both? Who say it's immature of me to watch and enjoy something like my little pony and then enjoy watching something like district 9 later on?
....Because My Little Pony is made for children, ergo to enjoy watching it is a sign of immaturity. It's a strawman to say enjoying My Little Pony means you can't enjoy District 9.
Alright then let's go with pixar. They make movies that are intended for children yet thousands of adults love these movies. I'll also go ahead and say that those movies have more mature plots that deal with real world issues and have more fully realized characters than a good chunk of the movies meant for adults.
Family films =/= childrens films. Pixar makes the former.
Pixar films are created with children as the primary audience but with other factors that make it enjoyable for different demographics. The exact same thing can be said about the most recent series of My Little Pony.

The difference seems to exist only in your mind, and seems to be built around the notion that if you enjoy it, it can't possibly be for children.

I don't even know what Foster's Home is, and the only reasons I even know what the Powerpuff Girls are is because my younger girlfriend (19) was into that at the time. I don't know... all I see are doe-eyed, rainbow and glitter covered nightmares of girlishness. Kind of the same feeling I get when I pass any give toy section at a department store and am blinded by all the pink at the Barbie display. Actually.... no, this is somehow worse.

I guess it will be one of those love it or hate it crazes. I'm more confused than anything... and mostly about people that are grown up (especially males) and are into My Little Pony.

Edit
So it's a slightly wittier, more sugar frosted version of this?
