I've always had a soft spot for the semi-auto marksman rifles. DMR, CR672, but most of all the M14.

Oh man, the modern M14s EBRs are just so beautiful... Favourite gun ever. <3

Why killing floor! Why did you have to nerf your m14? WHYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

They are accurate, powerful, all around good weapons (in games, I'm aware of the limitations IRL) that will never let you down, and prove your skill because they require precision and actually clicking more than once.

Sniper rifles and revolvers are my personal favorites. That doesn't mean I don't love other weapons though.

IRL I really enjoy shooting this one 38 Special revolver. It was my grandfather's on my dad's side but then he gave it to one of his good friends. But I still get to use it when we all go shooting.

Though my dad's 9mm Sig Sauer is nice. Don't know the type of Sig sadly.

In video games, usually I go for semi-automatic or bolt action rifles. Kar 98k if it's available.

the choice of weapons given in the poll makes me kinda sad since most of those are so similar
i would have to go with the rocket launcher because i just love the combination of high power with slightly forgiving handling. also the spinfusor is a rocket launcher

I'll take an AR-10 type rifle any day: looks of an AR-15, punch of a battle rifle.

The M14 and M14EBR is still a select-fire Assaultrifle...you probably mean the M21.
Although, some people actually rip out the full-auto sear, because it just makes no sense to have full-auto on a rifle that strong and still that light.

In games, I love me an Assaultrifle because it IS the general issue weapon...it can do anything. From mowing down enemies in close quarters, to being an accurate mid-range marksman rifle, it can do any job, at any time. If customization is allowed, expect the Assaultrifle to have the most upgrades of them all, and most of them center around making it even MORE general purpose, like grenadelaunchers.

BUT sometimes a game gives you one of these fancy weapons...one of those you dont often use in games, like mounted miniguns, grenadelaunchers, high-tech rocket launchers or friggin GUNSHIPS...
And I enjoy them highly.

Carbines are my favorite as they're probably the best all rounders. A perfect balance between the power of an assault rifle, and the size of an sub machine gun. It's hard to choose 1 particular gun from that category, but if I had to I'd choose the Heckler & Koch G36c.

This poll lacks important weapons.
Remember that grenade launcher Arnold had in T2? The one with awesome loading sound?
I've yet to see any game having this, but the one in Serious Sam 3 comes pretty close. (Not in terms of loading sound though)

Than there is the mini-gun. From the same movie actually, and there are a lot of games that have a good one.
Turok3 on the N64 had a triple barreled mini-gun. Thats right, three cylinders of 8 barrels each.

Oh, and don't forget plasma rifles, particle accelerators, rail guns, or black hole guns.

But the best Weapon of all time will always be the cerebral bore of Turok 2.

The guns in this poll though...

In games, I like AR/SMGs, best ratio of power/accuracy/mobility for my play style

But IRL, I love either a) bolt action rifle, a nice high powered one :p or b) The colt Peacemaker.

That being said. I like weaponry in general

This is my thoughts exactly. Didn't expect someone to say that, either.

Swords are where it's at. Their my favourite 'gun'. Many different types to choose from, and you get right up close and personal, like a true man.

In games I go for shotguns

In real life however I prefer the M16A2 and the SAR 21, mostly because I'm trained to handle either - although the latter is less comfortable

My favourate weapons are known as 'specialty rifles.' These weapons are designed around a single purpose, normally assassination. They tend to be specially designed, hence the name, around assault rifles but geared up to extremes. In the vast majority of cases, the bullet grain is deliberately reduced to keep the round below 950 feet per second, the breaking point of sound, while a internal suppressor takes care of the flash and reduces the sound of the shot at the gun itself. On top of this requirement they are also designed and developed to have the tightest grouping of any weapon known to date and, of course, are scoped. This is why specialty rifles are often mislabeled as sniper rifles, because they use a scope and have pin-point accuracy, but the round size and range are those of an assault rifle.

A good example, and my favorite in particular, is the Vintovka Snayperskaya Spetsialnaya series of rifles. This weapon was designed around the suppressed ammo, СП-5 or СП-6, which is a 9mmX39 round with excellent penetration even traveling at sub-sonic speeds. This rifle does not require hearing protection, at only 120 decibels*, and effective out to 300-400 meters. It boasts a MOA of around 1, which is an inch for every 100 yards, and that is sniper quality. They do not have the effective killing range as a full rifle, but given you rarely fire a rifle at a target more then 100-200 meters away the less range is not much of a loss in my eyes.

The Vintovka Snayperskaya Spetsialnaya Krupnokalibernaya is very nice, firing a 12.7mm STs-130 round for extra penetration and range without loosing the sub-sonic ability of the СП-5 and СП-6 rounds.

*sounds loud on paper, but you have to realize this is a sliding scale. A rifle at 130 decibels is twice as loud as one at 120 decibels. A .22LR fires at 140 decibels and a 30.06 rifle will fire at 160 or so decibels. Handguns are around 150 decibels, unsuppressed, so this rifle has about the same loudness as most suppressed handguns.

My favorite gun in existence is either the AA-12 or the AS-50. You have to love a fully-automatic shotgun that can fire grenades. And, likewise, you have to love a highly corrosion-resistance semi-automatic rifle that is very nearly as accurate as the best bolt-actions at over a mile away...

The gun I'd probably actually want for home defense is a Glock G17 -- then be a jackass and put a 33 round clip on it, because they make those things.

"Guns for Show, Knives for a Pro"

I can't really fault a blade, they have the benefit of being silent compared to a firearm but never forget that scene out of Indiana Jones, where Indy just shoots the guy dead after the show of skill with a sword. If the enemy are armed with a gun, your screwed 99% of the time. However, there is a key distance from a shooter where a knife will be more deadly, due to the time it would take to bring a weapon to bear compared to the time it would take to close the distance. Been a long while since I read the training manuals though, so I can't remember the exact details.
