Poll: What's your religion?

Political discussions on this forum covering large issues invariably start mentioning religion, which got me wondering: roughly what is the religious composition of the Escapist community, how well does it reflect the general population, and why? Please tell me what your religious beliefs are, and how well you think the religious composition of gamer culture matches that of the rest of the world.

As for me, I'm a neo-shaman. I believe in spirits and hold to some other traditional shamanic beliefs, but diverge on others. I think that gamer culture probabally has roughly the same religious composition as the rest of the world, with indigenous faiths underrepresented somewhat.

Let me just say that Buddhists are basically awesome. So chill.

I'm Christian, but am not part of any religion. I believe in God, but I don't believe in persecuting people for their "sins" or forcing religion onto people. And if this website is any indication, gamers are generally atheists.

I'm Buddhist, and so my view on God is that everything within existance and that lives is the embodiment of God in itself and existance. Therefore I believe in the kind treatment of all life-forms and nature. That's me.

I'm predominately Agnostic, but I do take bits and pieces from all kinds of religions. I believe in Karma for example.

I wouldn't say gamers are generally atheists.

Edit: And I'm Pantheistic. Well, it is the best way to describe it in a word, at least.

Mahayana? Theraveda? Vajrayana?
Zen-Theraveda.

My beliefs are very basic. For me, Tibetan Buddhism goes too far into the mystical and superstitious, they believe in different realms to be possibly born into, including a hell, and all sorts of stuff that I think gets in the way of the true teachings of the Buddhist faith. For me, practice is simple, and the soul is reborn on Earth (or wherever else exists in the universe for life) rather than a completely different spiritual realm. I also don't believe in the worship of Buddha or any other being.

I use Buddhism just as much as a philosophy as I do as a religion. I think the best way to achieve enlightenment is through discipline, meditation, and inward thought. I think you have to search for, and work for, enlightenment and nirvana. I also believe that karma is the only form of judgement in existance, and we are capable of being our own saviors in life through our actions.

I will say that I very much respect the Dalai Lama, however. He's the closest thing to a pope or figure head I have.

I just realised I didn't actually say what I am. I am an athiest *dances the athiest dance* (A little known dance that only true followers of athiesm are deemed worthy to know of)

I would say this has been done, but your poll is a lot better than theirs, so I'll endorse this one.
I'm a monotheist in the loosest of senses. I believe in one God, but have no links whatsoever to religions or whatever, and nobody tells me nothin'. I was an apathetic agnostic in my childhood, then a doubtful mystic, then the monotheist I am today after a lot of hard work. And it's awesome. I love believing in God and feel it really enriches my life. I'd never tell anyone else that it's the way to go though, 'cause I doubt anyone gets to the same point by the same process.

I'm an adherent of Frisbeetarianism - George Carlin's made up religion for a newspaper contest. The premise is that when you die, your soul gets stuck on a roof and you can't get it back down. It's lot better than putting Jedi on the census forms just so some civil servant gets to know which heaven or hell I'm going to. I don't mind you asking though, 'cause Frisbeetarianism has made me increasingly mellow.

If I had to choose a religion (or afterlife theory) that I'd want to believe in (despite being a confident and staunch Buddhist), it would be ultra-badass if Valhalla or Soul Society (from Bleach) existed. The idea that I could either fight Earth's greatest warriors for the rest of eternity and feast in the hall of Gods

or

become a God of Death myself and have awesome epic battles with bad guys until I die again and go back to Earth really tickles my pickle.

Norse, all the way.

Truthfully, I'm not sure. I don't believe in any old man with a beard (asides from Odin) but I believe there's something beyond our understanding pulling all the srings in this infinite universe.

Monotheist, Agnostic, Atheist? Don't know where I fit. But I do not believe in orginised religion (aside from Norse). I don't believe people should worship the Pope. He's just a man, so is every Bishop, Priest, Rabbi, etc. Believe in god or whatever you will, but don't let someone else tell you how to do it. I don't think god gives a rats if you donate $10 into 'his' house. I don't understand religion sometimes.

Okay, If I had to choose an actual religion (barring the whole 'nothing' option) I'd definately go for the Norse Pagan side of things too.

You can't get more badass than Thor.

I was honestly thinking you were saying that you worshiped a padlock known as 'master' for a while, before the whole 'lock' thing clicked over in my brain (my brain makes clicking noises, it's rather worrying)
