I can type without looking at the keyboard but it's a lot slower and It's not even close to how the school tried teaching me. My fingers are too small to reach that far so I move my entire hand.
Large hands, or more specifically long fingers, helps. My grandfather had big hands and I seem to have at least inherited some of it.

I can type decently almost blindly, I've typed for so long now that it's burned in my subconscious, but I don't do it all that properly, I usually just index finger it, but I'm still pretty fast.

I played a crapload of warrcraft online. I had to learn to type to communicate/trash talk.
That about sums up me.

Although I learned to type much better in a mandatory typing class in middle school.

Year 7 is when i learned to touch type. The only problem is when i use a different keyboard and the end, home and delete keys are in different places.

During Primary... I had to type alot of reports so now I can write almost perfectly without looking at the keyboard. Although I'm slower than normal.

I learned on a Lion King PC typing game when I was eight. I'm pretty good at typing, not extremely fast, but I'm fast enough.

Heh, I used those programs like Mario Teaches Typing back in first grade, and it didn't help at all.

I pretty much just developed the skill in probably third or fourth grade over the course of chatting with people online.

By your definition of typing, I can't type, which makes me wonder how all those 100,000 word novels ended up on my laptop.

Maybe I should clarify, I can type without looking at the keyboard, but it takes longer, I actually have to stop and think without just letting the words flow, and I make more mistakes, which means more editing. So I probably also won't bother to learn how to touch-type.

Call me Retard Mc Spackypants, but Ihonestly don't see much benefit for me.

I can when I place my fingers like I do while playing videogames (using the WASD keys).

I learned to type somewhere around grade 3. I still can't type extremely fast (somewhere around 30-40 words per minute), but I'm great at typing without mistakes. I don't have to look at the keyboard while I type, and very rarely hit the wrong key.
