Only when I'm in Somalia.

Actually, I don't pirate. I used to pirate songs but now I just use my friends
...because that is way better.

How is it different from sharing a CD or Ipod? Or buying a cd or ipod from your friend?
I meant you're mooching off your friends... XD

Some things are just hard to find, even on eBay, so I download them. And I'm also not very rich, and new games here are at least $100 each, so me or my bro might download something and then buy it later if its any good. Same goes for movies and music. If I can find it in a shop or online for the right price then I will buy it. But sometimes things are just too hard to find or too expensive.

I do have cracks/no-cds for alot of my games though because I really hate having to put a CD in or login to some online thingie just to play a game. I don't think that counts as pirating though.

I pirate games when they don't have demos, I want to get a idea on if my PC can run it. If the game has DRM, I'll pirate that after I bought the game so I'm not dumping their crappy software on my PC.

Farcry 2 for example has limited installs that monitors your hardware, this uses up processes making your PC slower even when the game ISN'T running. Not installing that crap on my PC.

I will only pirate under two cases:
>The item I want is very rare and hard to find.
>I want to trial out the product before committing any money to it.

If it's just to get free stuff, then I don't really condone it.

Oh, and one case, I had to pirate the install 1 CD of Max Payne 2, because I lost my legitimate disc.

I download things that I just can't get a hold of legally.
Unavailable in my region, out of print etc.

Pirating is bad m'kay.
Although I do torrent open source things and creative commons media (like Night of the Living Dead!).
I have re-downloaded my games when I had the keycode and my disk broke/was unreadable. But that's about it.

Music sounds so much better when it comes from a hard days work, which is why I buy organic.

I'll admit to pirating the occasional DVD in the past, but learned my lesson when they turned out crap and I found I can get cheap pre-owned legitimate copies from places like CEX, including the special features and stuff that you don't get on pirated stuff. As it is, I've never pirated a game, simply because I'm honest, and that's all there is to it.

EDIT: Actually, I did also pirate music, but not any more thanks to the cheapness of the aforementioned CEX and also great websites like Last.fm...

Whenever I damn well please, especially when it's too expensive. 60$ for a season of The Sopranos? I think not, you greedy pricks.

I see nothing wrong with it, either. I download movies and CDs that I would never purchase otherwise. It's not as if they're losing any business.

I only do it when I've already bought the game. Say I sold it because I thought I'd never play it again, but end up regretting it? I'll go get a copy for an emulator. No harm done.

EDIT: OK, so this is about pirating in general? Not my thing.

You don't actually deprive developers of any revenue if you pirate anything you would not have bought a new copy of.

I don't pirate games but I often download music. If I like it (which I usually do) then I will go and buy it. If I don't like it then I'll delete it because there's no point in me having it. I see no problem with this.

Well technically, I have never pirated, but my brother has. And that was when the copy of Half-Life that we borrowed from our cousins didn't want to install properly on our computer.
I don't know if that makes it "justified" in any way, but that is the dirty truth.

When there is no other way of getting the product? It's not like I don't want to buy whatever it may be. A film, a record or a book. If there is no commercial value left for who released it in the first place.

Sometimes I get the feeling people don't want to make money of their products if there is a "demand".

If the option is to 1.) Wait for a remake and/or a re-release. 2.) Buy a secondhand game for a small fortune or 3.) Download it from some torrent. I might consider option three.

Let me give you an example.

A band (whom I'm not going to mention, as they are well kept secret) released a record for about 24 years ago. Today it's out of print. They relased three albums in the 80's. The first was re-released in 08, and the third was released again 07' I believe. However their second and best album was somehow forgotten. I searched and searched without any means of getting through a legal channel. The alternatives where to pay for a used copy. The price you wonder? Over 100£(no joke). OR... download the album from a filesharing site.

I dislike pirates, but sometimes, even I consider downloading stuff, even tho I would open my wallet without question if that was an option.

If it's music, I usually get a free copy, and if I like it I'll support the artist.

I only pay for movies when I know they'll be good.
