Poll: When do you think Final Fantasy will stop?

Why should they?

Every series has to end.

Except that Final Fantasy isn't a series in the traditional sense of the word. It's more of a franchise, like Mario or Zelda. The only difference is that Square Enix is still sticking numbers on the ends of the names.

i think they might stop the numbered games. or the core games, if you will. and just either start another FF series with a slightly different name and start numbering those or just make spinoffs a la sonic the hedgehog.

Considering how they sell well and how they are only related in name, company, and some conventions, they will probably go on for awhile, since they're really separate games.

This actually brings up an intresting point that the FF series is complained about by people who have either played 1 or none. Because they aren't Sequels in the sense they are related to each other at all. They are games with their own worlds, plots, characters, myth etc. They could easilly come up with a new name every game and it would still be the same thing, Final Fantasy just makes damn sure it brings in the customers.

I do not mind the unrelated plots, but I think it would be nicer as a consistant world instead. I may like it more, since I am attracted to interesting lore, part of my love TES, and it would be just better.

It'll stop when Square Enix goes out of business and no one buys the rights to the title.

Any of their JRPGs can be called "Final Fantasy" as long as they have a very vague gameplay resemblance to the previous ones...and sometimes not even that is required. There's really no reason to stop using the title by now, considering all the completely different games it's applied to.

I think they'll end it when the name stops being such a cash cow.

Alternately, why don't they just switch to model years? Final Fantasy 2009, Final Fantasy 2010 Luxury Edition, and so forth.
