I remember when I was 8 years old I played games because they we're fun, imaginative, they we're (in retrospect) well written and they we're generally pretty challenging. Now lets fast forward a few years to today. Video games are spat out by big name publishers like EA and Activision like they we're Big Mac's at McDonalds! news flash, games that are made quickly and are just cookie cutters of their predecessors are simply garbage. Take the Call of Duty Franchise for example, you've got two pretty huge developers working under one mongo-producer (Acitvision). The two developers both make, on the most basic level, the same exact product: Call of Duty. Infinity Ward (before Activision basicly left them as a shell of there former selves) was the shining beacon of hope in this dull world we live in, their games took up to 4 years to make and were generally better then the cookie cutter, game a year, knock offs produced by Trearch. Hear me out, i'm not bashing Trearch here, I personally a big fan of there last release, Call of Duty: Black Ops. but there games are generally worse then those made by Infinity Ward. Infinity ward reminds me, every time i pop in my Modern Warfare 2 disk, why I originally got into games, it's fun, looks beautiful, it's challenging, it has addicting multiplayer, and makes me feel like a kid again. Let me know how you guys feel about this subject.

I remember when you paid 60$ for a game you got the whole dam game. But i digress, i know what you mean i go back and play Call Of Duty 4 and it reminds me why i love first person shooters.

No, they are not ruining the gaming industry. EA and Activision simply supply people what they want. If they weren't doing whatever it is that gets them to be perceived as the boogeymen of the gaming the world, someone else would.

They are doing this because it makes money. Your grief lies with the people who buy these games, not with those who sell it. Without demand, there would be no supply. No one would make these games if they didn't think they would sell.

So no, I don't blame EA and Activision, and that has nothing to do with the fact that I have been bribed by Bobby Kotick

you need to see that Activision is destroying a beloved franchise, Treyarch is is taking over the series and it's completely ridiculous. Infinity Ward rakes in more dough than Treyarch ever could, the only reason most people bought Black Ops was because it said Call of Duty on it and they we're expecting MW3. i bought it because i loved the zombies mode from WaW. Infinity Ward almost always brings something new to the table every time they make a game and they make boat loads, however Activision wrongly treated them horribly on a financial level and fired the head honchos, this is why I think big business producers like Activision are spoiling the fun for the rest of us. EA is trying to nickel and dime the Battlefield users and Activision is making a knock off of bungie.net and expecting players to PAY for the "full multiplayer experience" it's stuff like that that makes me think they are "the boogie man". When i pay $60, i should get the full game, not %80 of what it is destined to be!

I don't feel that they're ruining it, like CM156 said, its the buyer. Also I believe it's more the 3rd party developers, making games like Carnival Games, Monopoly and other board game video game adaptations. So, it's no SINGLE developer or publisher's fault. I get your point, games don't seem as fun as they used to be, and i'm extremely aware of that. Developers just need to add more elements to prolong the longevity of their games (i.e. Free Maps, like call of duty WaW's Makin Day map, or Rainbow 6 vegas' free map packs). More to the point, maybe it's just US? Is it our tastes changing? Look deeper into your Game-Loving souls. Do you not have as much fun as you used to playing that call of duty, or that castle crashers? Try flash gaming (on sites such as Kongregate, Newgrounds, or maxgames, etc.) out. Try new games or even Indie games. Minecraft helped me out of my rut with MW2. Try a relaxing game. wait. I rambled. SHIT. whatever

Fucking Cheers, Jake

Activision has never really been part of my life (it came up in a past thread, and I discovered that the only games they published that I've played are Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure). So they aren't ruining anything for me.

EA publishes way too many games I love for me to complain. If you have a problem with the DLC stuff, don't buy it. That's how I do it (except with the BioWare games. I'm willing to be a hypocrite for those).

Companies aren't ruining the game industry by nickel and diming gamers. The consumers do it to themselves. It is one of the companies' primary responsibilities to look after their own best interest. Gamers should look after their own in turn, and do so by not reinforcing practices they don't like.

i see what your getting at, because homefront was sort of a dissapointment in my eyes. Like, with Call of Duty WaW, they integrate map pack maps into lobbies including people who don't have the maps, booting players from lobbies when the missing map shows up on the map preview screen, making the game unenjoyable for players who don't feel like shelling out 2400 MS points (and respectively for however much they cost on PS3) for all the maps.

Well depends on how you look at it, they have nearly perfected all the ways of milking the fans so from an accountants perspective the industry has never seen better days.

Ofcourse to produce games yearly at the lowest possible price many corners need to be cut and franchises spread out over several noname developers to just stamp out something like mindless drones, so the quality is going downhill fast.

The real problem here is 80% of gamers are completely new to gaming and they are content with whatever slush they get, just like the billions who think McDonalds is the best food known to mankind, and when quality is not demanded how can we ever expect it.

Just as the people could avoid buying games that support them, they could also care more about the quality of what they make. Should EA and Activion be blamed 100%? No. Should they not be blamed at all? Definatly no. And before you say they are a buisness and its about the money, it doesnt have to be. Some buisnesses actually care about what they make. Sure they usually are the smaller ones, but big buisness can care and make a buck at the same time if they bother to try.

Ya all this DLC stuff sucks so thats hurting us. Things certainly have changed some for better others for worse in the last 11 years.

I usually only get 2-3 games a year of which I only pay for one and the other 1 to 2 I get for Christmas/B-day. I also don't buy the DLC so one 60$ game isn't much of a problem for me.

Tetris.

It all went wrong with Tetris.

...

Seriously now, if you want someone to blame, blame the customers. Publishers can only sell what people are willing to buy.

Lol I find it really interesting that you consider treyarch games to be generally worse and that you like modern warfare 2. Typically people consider MW2 the worst of the series.

now listen, i would normally not buy the DLC if i Don't like it, but the DLC I'm talking about is the COD DLC, the map packs cost a small fortune and they include minuscule amounts of actual map for the price they are driving, so if i don't shell out 1200 microsoft points pet map, I get a bland game, and i'm not saying that I don't like DLC i'm saying there should be no need for DLC!
