JRPG's are rpgs that let's you role play a certain character they made and focuses more on that character's personality/depth.

WRPG's are rpgs that let's you role play a certain character they made and focuses more on what you make those characters do.

so if you want something that has story depth. Go with JRPG's or just read a novel
but if you want something that makes you be what you want. Go with WRPG's or just play pretend with your friends.

in my opinion though

I suppose currently WRPG's by default, as I haven't played any JRPG's (unless those Pokemon gameboy colour games from my childhood count as such).

Any JRPG would be very hard pressed to top my appreciation for the Elder Scrolls series though. Its story might be mediocre at best, but the freeroam gameplay and customizability more than makes up for that. If I want unmatched story quality I'll go with visual novels rather than RPG's anyway.

Let's completely drive over the op's question and say:

I like GOOD rpg's.

I don't automatically give a pass to a bad game, nor do I thumb my nose at a good game, simply because of where it's from.

I've enjoyed games from both JRPG and WRPG camps, that were good. And I'll probably continue to do so.
Agree 100%. Until recently Bioware were the creme de la creme of WRPGs and i enjoyed every one of them, but i've also loved the FF series, the Star Ocean series (except last hope *spit*), Grandia and many others.

Stylistically they are different but both can be highly enjoyable

Hrm...JRPGs have really fallen off lately, but WRPGs are coming up...so, I'd have to say classic JRPGs and modern WRPGs.

I'm king of wondering what "other" means. African RPGs? I mean, god bless, but I haven't heard of any good RPGs that didn't come from Asia, Europe or the Americas recently.

I hate JRPGs as most of their settings are based on Swords Vs Lasers or projectile weapons as it is just stupid. At least with WRPGs it is Sword Vs Sword or Lasers Vs Lasers.

I am a bigger fan of WRPG

Elder Scrolls III
Elder Scrolls IV
Elder Scrolls V
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas

Ya know the game where me and my foe are on the same field and we battle as it was a real war....There are no turns...there is blade bow and magic and only one of us leaves...

or in Fallout 3 where the trials of the wasteland stand between me and my Dog(meat)

always found japanese art, manga, jrpg, hentai etc a bit weird, no offence intended, but i'd take elder scrolls over ff any day. but surely thats because im from the west, and our fantasy is based on our culture and history? same goes for jrpg

Just can't stand turn based combat. I am simply unable to play through a JRPG because of this. If you feel like you want to change my opinion please recommend a JRPG without or with a very different turn based combat. I would be happy to try it.
Tales of Vesperia is a great JRPG with an engaging combat system.

If by WRPGs you mean games like Oblivion or SWKOTOR then I definitely prefer WRPGs.
There are some JRPGs I like though, like Tales of Symphonia.

A couple of years ago I would have said JPRG, but now it's WRPG.

But it's not like I have anything against the more adventure-y style Japanese RPGs tend to have. It's just that I haven't played any recently due to a lack of interest.

Thank you. I'll check it out.

JRPGs usually. While I do love Fallout 3 and New Vegas, they are only 2 games and can't match the amount of time I've sunken into various Final Fantasies and Personas etc.
