Mortal Kombat is the only fighting game that I know of where someone can be punched in the face and have a kidey and three pints of blood come out. Man I love Mortal Kombat.

Super Smash Brothers. Coz of it's fun factor. Not on the wii though, that was a step backwards from Super Smash Brothers: Melee for the series...

A close second would probably be Tekken, if you're a serious person.

add DOA.
DOA is probably my favorite series as well, but Mortal Kombat and old Street Fighter games are extremely entertaining. To me, DOA manages a good mix between button mashing and skill. You can flail away and do decently, but anyone who knows how to counter is going to usually wipe the floor with you.

I grew up on Mortal Kombat. I haven't played any other fighting that I've liked as much. Okay, maybe Super Smash Bros. Melee, but Mortal Kombat is just, well my favorite fighting game series.

If its considered a traditional fighting game, then smash bros is number 1.

Otherwise it is Tekken.

Or any 2d version of Mortal Kombat

Arcana Heart.

Honorable mention to Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, and Smash Brothers. And Soul Calibur (2), and Capcom vs. (SNK 2). And Tekken (5:DR) and Virtua Fighter (5) are good for every now and then.

Of the ones on that list I'd say Virtua Fighter, but overall I'd go with Soul Calibur and the BlazBlue/Guilty Gear style games.

Whenever I'm playing Tekken, with its infuriating blocking (for me personally anyway) I'm thinking to myself "I could be moving three times this fast..."

Funny, mine are Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, SNK vs. Capcom (especially the Chaos version). Most of the SNK genre games, Darkstalkers, Soul Calibur and DOA. Can't say I'm good with any of them, though, Normally I try to find the best fighter that I can play the best, and use them for the most part. Sad part is I normally suck at what everyone else can play though.

I mean, I know a dozen of my friends that won't play Zappa from Guilty Gear, but I swear I've never seen any of my characters move as fast and as him o.o

Just about all of them used to be good.
Street Fighters are mostly all awesome.
Mortal Kombat was good until they went 3d.
DOA was decent, but I Never had much playing time, since I never owned an XBOX
Capcom vs. games are good, but they may as well be considered a Street Fighter game.
Guilty Gear is good but it jumps around way too much. It goes from great to suck then back to good.
King of fighters was fun on PS2, the new one was a huge disappointment.
And speaking of disappointment....Tekken 6 was full of it. If I got into all my problems with it, then this response would be a couple pages long.
I've never really cared for Soul Calibur and as much as I hate to admit it....I enjoyed it more than Tekken 6, which is a shame because Tekken 6 had so much production time and potential to be great.
Smash Brothers I loathe.
Killer Instinct was good on the SNES the Killer Instinct Gold was also a let down.
Virtua Fighter I never cared about, even when it was the grand-pappy of being a 3d fighter.

Def Jam fight for NY or DOA 3 or Super smash bros 2..... Tekken was an old favorite but 6 can go in a corner and die, and take soul calibur 4 with you.... 3 was so much better.

I'm not really into fighting games, but if I had to pick, Smash Bros. Always good for laughs, though I did enjoy Tekken and Streetfighter in the past.
