Poll: Which final fantasy?

I played a few, 10 is the easiest I think (barring a select few boss fights) and is my favorite. (Don't judge me)

7 and 8 are both pretty good I hold them on equal standing.

I played 4 and it is very hard but I like it.

I didn't like 12, didn't try 13.

11 is an MMO and is more like backbreaking labor then a game and 14 follows the same formula as that.

Everyone seems to love 6 and 9 though I never played those ones.

Hes asking about oppinions not hate. All FF games are masterpeices in there own right.

There is such a thing as a negative opinion.

Its true there are a lot of flaws about X, Laughing Scene, Auron able to die...

But VII's story was just as flawed.

Don't preach that it's just game mechanics, that makes no sense. In the actual universe of it all, if Phoenix Downs could raise people from the dead...then no one in the abysmal slums of Midgar would die...as they have shops that sell them.

I'm still working my way through the FF series but if you want to know what the hell people are talking about VI, VII, IX, X, and X12 are probably the one's I come across most often. So pick and choose from there.
My vote is for FF VII.
But that's just me personally and a bias based opinion cause that's the first one I've played and love the most. But even I will admit VII's convoluted storyline and getting Midgar makes me want to break something get past Midgar and your good. But if you want a good story VI beats most. X is good too and XII is fun to roam around and beat everything to death on the same field screen. Though I would never recommend FF XIII as a first FF game to play and I was highly disappointed with it, it was still good. Overall just give them a try. They're all different from each other though some elements do intertwine. You like it fine, you don't eh you can say screw you people with back up evidence as to why you don't like them.

I'm so happy that IX is number 1, that its literally brought a tear to my eye

I thought I was in the minority who loved this game, and always seen it as extremely underrated, especially considering how incredible the music is, but its number one, and I feel so happy right now!

Final Fantasy III. One of the few moments gaming achieved perfection. You don't even have it on your list, which makes me sad.

Final Fantasy 9 was also very, very good.

As a non-gamer, what drew you to this title particularly? This might be fascinating.

Someone sold it to my folks when they bought a PS2, saying it had a great story. It'd been out for some time at this point, was fairly cheap and I'd run out of books, so, they thought, what the hell.

Whilst being initially impressed by the graphics, my dad couldn't get his head around the control system and Mum didn't really get that the thing in her hand had buttons, and could control things on the screen, so it was just me and this lush incredible world in front of me. Aside from a few ridiculous plot twists (Luke; THAT is your father!) and an ingame glitch that swapped all the character models for enemies (Yuna was an upside down bird!), I loved it.

I loved the music, the backgrounds, the history you could learn from talking to people, the glorious amount of side quests and beautiful, beautiful ending; basically everything about it, even most of the voice acting - the only reason I'd put VI on a pedestal above it is that VI had a bucketload of charm and a lot of more outrageous fun in it (See: Ultros)

There called nostalgia glasses, you know when you were a kid and thought something was the bestest ever? Then you one day come across it again, play it with much excitment, only to find it is just god awful? Yeah, well ...

Granted some of them will be good games but just keep in mind they may have forgotten the bad points and hyped up the good ones too much.

On topic. X reamins one of my fav games ever, it has flaws no doubt. For it's time though, it was graphically stunning, especially the cutsences.

Just tell me this isn't awesome! Since it's on PS2 aswell.

Holy shit... NINE has the most votes? I thought I was in a minority here! All my friends love 7 and 10, and none of them like nine... Wow.

If you need a true introduction to the series, seven is a good starting point (as is 1) but if you just want a fun game, go for nine.

I would vote for FF5. The job system took a little getting used to for me, but teaching a party of white mages the bare handed ability results in healers with a high attack rating.

for the purposes of the poll I picked XIII, as it was the one I played most recently. (I've played better, I've played worse).

VII and IX are atop the poll as usual. Those two and Tactics all sit in my top 5 of all time. But I'm having a hard time not recommending FFX to a person who hasn't played a game in the series. Terrible story and sketchy voice-acting, yes, but awesome pretty much everything else. VII and IX had better stories but they are very, VERY dated these days. I heart pixels but the new blood seems to hate the crap out of them.

So my recommendation: FFX.

Final Fantasy 7 was the first one I played in the series, and I haven't played a better one since, (I've now played all of them).
8 came close, but 9 was in fact 'terribad'.
Shit story, shit characters. The only good thing in 9 was the Chocobo treasure hunt minigame.
I would say download 7 and 8 for your PC. Those two were easily the best ones and will provide you with hours and hours of amazing story and gameplay.

Uh...what? The characters of IX were well-developed, something the VII conspicuously were not. Plus the plot was actually simple instead of being more convoluted than a Dan Brown novel.

OT: IX. Best characters, is 4 disks long, good plot, and is probably the best overall FF I have played.

IX Just had the most unmemorable and boring characters of any Final Fantasy I've played so far. After experiencing such awesome characters in VII and VIII, I was just incredibly disappointed. Characters such as Quina, and Steiner? Wtf..I just really disliked the character art-style. The world was much more impressive than the characters however.
But despite being 4 disks long, I finished IX in about half the time it took me to finish VII and VIII. The gameplay was alright, but I just felt like the game finished much earlier than I thought it would. Very disappointing game, BUT it had its moments, (as every Final Fantasy does).

OT: VII and VIII. Can't go wrong!

I tried to make my post not sound sarcastic, but it was late and I didn't succeed entirely.

This is the kind of story I like. Video games have been part of my life for a long time, so I really like hearing about how people get into them. They take longer to absorb than most movies but you get so much more, usually.

I still see FFX as a magical installment, I agree with what you said plus I loved the puzzles, they were so unexpected. If it had the free-roaming environments of FFXII, it might even be my favorite. FFVI is the one I played the most, in high school too, but it never had that effect on me.

Glad I didn't bore you. I think magical is the best way to describe FFX and I agree about the puzzles. The trials were really difficult near the end, but it was great. I ended up with three friends and I all around a sheet of paper trying to work out the last one!

I'm still on the fence but XII. When I first played it wasn't too keen on it because I didn't think the story was strong enough, but I replayed it last year, concentrating more on the environments and interesting battle system and it was pretty fun.
