Without a doubt, Witcher 3, not just because of the game's quality, but because the game did something that's been missing from open world games for a long time. It made the content inside the game feel meaningful, something Bethesda hasn't been able to do for years, and something Ubisoft has barely even attempted to do (oh, more towers?).
When I saw reviews for Fallout 4 and heard that there was moral ambiguity and a sense that the side quests were actually more than just mundane tasks to complete for experience and loot, I smiled and thought, "Thanks, Witcher 3". So, I chose the game both for what it was and for the mark it has left on the game industry.
