Well I have only played 1, 2 & Reach so....

I have to go with 2 as my fav...

Reach 2nd & Halo 1 as 3rd. But it was very hard to decide which would be second & third.

... Thats a pretty big post. Kinda pointless though, since the answer seems to invariably be [the one you played first].

[the one you played first]'s proximity to [the first game you ever played] seems to be a big factor on whether or not were impressed at all.
Not really. If that was true then the order I like them in would be different. My preference has no basis in when I played it; I tried to evaluate each game seperately, and based on its own merits and flaws.

Honestly, separated from all other concerns every game in existence would shine.

In concern to music, CE and Reach had soundtracks that didnt bring pain to me.. ODST made me want to punch something. (musicwise)

Yeah, okay, but now you're just losing sight of reality. It was just a review, damnit.

its tied first place for me with halo 1-2 holding it, halo 2 was my fav in general just for some of the missions they were all different and there was some decent changes in the game like dual weilding and vechle jacking, but halo 1 for just atmoshere i prefer playing it for missions with the flood and the last mission were your driving on a timer with exsplosions going off all around you

Reach. It took everything from the originals that was awesome, (the set-pieces, the humour, firefight, multiplayer variety) and combined them into something amazing that will probably still be played more than any 343 Industry Halo game to come. I still haven't missed a daily challenge!

For me it would be:

Campaign Gameplay: Halo CE

Multiplayer Gameplay: Halo Reach

Music: Halo main trilogy

Weapons/Vehicles: Halo 2

Story: Halo CE

Characters: Halo CE (who doesnt love Guilty Spark and the Halo CE marines?)

Enemies: Halo CE (Ill never forget the awesomeness of fighting Elites which were actually...Elite.)

Allies: Halo 2 (nothing beats a grunt Spec Ops unit.)

Atmosphere: Tied with all, save for Halo Wars, Halo 3 and ODST

Immersion: None in particular, tied with all (although, not in campaign, but in multiplayer, Halo Reach Big Team Slayer and Headhunter on Hemorrhage in particular give the odd Battlefield esque feeling that your in a much, much larger battle which I thought was impossible to achieve in any other series, I found none of the games very immersive in campaign at all save for maybe Halo CE)

Now for the worst, mwhahahahaha.

Campaign Gameplay: Halo 3

Multiplayer Gameplay: Halo 3 (custom games and forge is brilliant, but pointless rankings and some bland maps along with many other things made H3 matchmaking quite dissapointing for me.)

Music: Halo ODST

Weapons/Vehicles: Halo 3 (H3 had way too many unneccessary and pointless additions.)

Story: Halo 3

Characters: Halo ODST

Enemies: Halo 3's (H3's hostile encounters were boring, bland and repetitive.)

Allies: Aside from the ODST squad, Halo 3

Atmosphere: Halo 3 (flood encounters were laughable.)

If I had to choose I'd say Halo CE. When I first witnessed the game, I was blown out of my mind. The graphics, the gameplay, the enemies, it was something I've never felt in a game. Multiplayer was fun and I loved the games soundtrack. Overall it was a near perfect game for me.

Reach comes close second with amazing gameplay and addicting multiplayer.
Then Halo 3.
Then ODST.
Then Halo 2.(ending slightly ruined it)
Then Wars.
finally some one who actually put CE as there first choice. and yes i agree with you. i liked the flood in this because everyone was like "WTF is that?" then they crapped them selves when they would jump out of no were.

Reach is the only one I really loved. 3 and ODST were good and I didn't really care for Halo:CE. 2 I haven't played.

Master Chief does make a cameo in Reach on the mission Pillar of Autumn when the pelican lands in the Pillar of Autumn push right on the right thumbstick and the chief is sitting in a cryotube.

As for myself I like them most in this order Halo CE, Reach, ODST, 2 and 3 I don't rank Halo wars in there because I haven't played it and would be an unfair judgement if i did rank it.

Combat Evolved.

God, what a great game. I almost shit myself in fear in that first Flood level. No other Halo game ever made me that scared.

CE. i dont know what it is but that is for me of my favorite games of all time. i didn't really like Halo 2, mainly because of the fact there was no fluidness and the lack of natural feel to it like in the first game. Reach is really good, i'm liking it a lot so far and i don't care what anyone else says i loved the campaign and got attached to most of NOBLE team. I also liked both Halo 3 and Halo: ODST but comparing them to CE and Reach, there is no contest.
So for me, it goes:

1. Halo CE
2. Halo Reach
3. Halo 3
3. Halo ODST
5. Halo 2

Gotta be:

Halo: CE

Halo 2

Halo: Reach

Halo: ODST

Halo 3

3 was definitely the worst in my eyes, I don't really understand why though.

Of those I've played, I would say:
1) Halo: Reach
2) Halo: CE
3) Halo 2
4) Halo 3

Reach goes above CE for one reason, and one reason only: No Flood! I've always had a gripe about the Halo series, bragging about it's amazing adaptive enemy AI only to switch it off for half the game whenever the Flood appears to just mob the player. That's always struck me as lazy programming - take the Library in CE for example: up until that point the levels had been varied and interesting, the story had been compelling, and the AI had provided challenging situations to work around. Then, the Flood arrives. Complex level design is replaced with repetition, story is replaced with "Zombies! RUN!", and adaptive AI is replaced with the same old 'head in a straight line towards player regardless of anything' AI that Halo was meant to be saving us from. It just kinda struck me that Bungie were really fired up for the first half of the game, then got bored and decided to clock off early. And as a player, that felt like a slap in the face.

For me the best part of the Halo story has always been the conflict between the UNSC and the Covenant - and of the four Halo games I've played Reach is the only UNSC v Covenant game. I've been told by a few friends that I should play ODST because that game is also Flood-free, but I'm a little dubious about paying full price of a game that was only ever intended to be a stop-gap measure until Reach finished development.

Halo:CE was a brilliant masterpiece as far as I'm concerned (at least up until the Library, anyway), but my dislike of the Flood (or more accurately the implied programming laziness they represented) badly coloured my perception of the rest of the series, until I fell out with the franchise completely with the arrival of 3.

So, yeah. For me, the franchise started on a real high but gradually went downhill until Reach arrived and gave the franchise the send-off it deserved.

For me: Reach
Halo 2, Halo CE, Halo ODST, and Halo 3.

I loved 2, as it was my first Halo game. I remember all the fun times I had with it, but Reach, I have to say, does something 2 doesn't. It makes the story dark, and I like the change. I still like the other Halos fun atmosphere, I do like when you mix something up.

The reason the fist Halo game (Combat Evolved) is the best is because when it was made, there was nothing like it. It delved into a well done story, amazing gameplay, and clear cut hero and bed guys. Reach is pretty good, but there are so many like it and its really just the same thing with more graphics. The simplicity and great gameplay of Halo CE will forever be the best in my mind.
