Sirius. That was teh first death of a character that I really cared about.

By books 6&7, major characters dying was less of a shock. I was sad that some of them died, but it didn't have the emotional impact that Sirius' death did.

I had a :O "What the bleeping bleeppity bleep?" moment for Sirius Black, Hedwig, Fred, Remus, and Snape.

In my world of rainbows, lollipops and a Hogwarts acceptance letter, they all live.

Haven't seen the last movie yet, so I'm going by the book as it were.

Snape probably, the guy had such a tragic life (a bit emo maybe, but still...). He deserved better.

A thought: major characters dying with seemingly little emotion or impact. Isn't that exactly what they were going for? It was war! And in war these things happen. At one moment you're fighting side by side with someone who's been your friend for years and the next moment he's dead. It's chaos! The fighting wont simply wait for you to cry your tears over his lifeless corpse. You have to take care of business or you and many others will die as well! There will be time for mourning later! And isn't that exactly what happened there at the final battle?

Probably Sirius. Harry's gone his whole life without parents, and once he finally finds someone who might be able to possibly fill that void, they're snatched away just as quickly as they came. It's not just sad, it's really damn unfair.

Bellatrix. That was a fucking awesome sequence, one of the few parts of the series I didn't not like and perhaps the only one I loved.

(Cedric doesn't count. No-one cares), and he was a fairly tragic character to begin with.
Yeah. Plus: he was played by Robert Pattinson, so... people were kinda happy to see him die anyways.

OT: Not sure really. I voted Fred Weasley, but Snape and Sirius' deaths come just as high. For some reason i didn't really think Dumbledore's death had as much impact as the director wanted it to have, but... meh.

Hard to choose between Fred and Snape.
Their deaths seemed so hard on the people around them...

Oh, and Hedwig. That poor thing. D;

In the films Lavender Brown, since all it shows is her dead on the floor by a Death Eater and she is never mentioned again, that makes me sad.
Same, she seemed like the least likely character to be killed off.
Suddenly she shows up dead, her corpse being eaten. My god.
Could you explain further? Can't really recall this happening.

Tonks and Lupin got me really, since they were essentially Jossed out of the series. I see no reason for Rowling to have killed them, other than she wanted to show that This Is Serious. Just to cut off their happiness.

It was the worst, because they should have lived.

Albus dumbledore for the film side of things, his face as he fell off the tower was just the most saddening thing to me.

In the books I would say Dobby's death was pretty memorable to me, he was such an amazing character. (which reminds me of WHY WASN'T HE IN MORE THAN LIKE 2 FILMS!).
Its because he wasn't in more than 2 books as far as I recall.

OT: I would have to say Lupin & Tonks, Sirius, Hedwig, and Dobby's deaths were very sad. Especially if you have read the books because some of these characters don't get as much development on screen. I literally came close to tears when Hedwig died because she was basically Harry's oldest and most loyal friend who died defending him. So Hedwig's death is definitely the most sad to me at least.

Hedwig actually. I wasn't expecting it and she was a symbol of the series for me which I was particularly attached to.

But anyway, I pick Tonks (the Remus and Tonks option) as she'd just had Teddy.

Followed by Fred. I loved those two.

I was genuinely expecting Hagrid to die, I'd have openly weeped if he had.

Fred is the only character death I've ever cried over.
I so want to recommend a book to you which I loved, but the thing is the death is unexpected so telling you to read it based on what you said ruins the feeling. (Well it was unexpected for me and that was the whole point of it in my mind). In fact there's a couple of books which made me feel physically ill due to deaths which I didn't see coming.
