Left 4 Dead 2 for its superior gameplay, but I do miss No Mercy, and the L4D characters, sometimes.

2. I think the addition of The Sacrifice into it is going to solidify that statement, as it will be ass kicking.

Though I still like and play the first, the second one feels an awful lot better.

The atmosphere and characters in 1 is better, but the game play and all the additions in 2 are better. When they release No Mercy and The Sacrifice for 2, I shall be quite happy.

I hated both games, just shooting enemies over and over again. No fun and just gets boring.
Trying playing with your friends on a more difficult setting. I don't understand at all how you don't get even a LITTLE bit excited playing that.
I played both with my brother split screen. Just same old stuff again and again. It got boring.
Well, yeah, because you're sort of doing it wrong. I know that sounds terrible to say, but let me explain. Sure, it's totally viable to play L4D games on single player or just with one other person, but that's not really how they were MEANT to be played. That is not the cream of cake here.

If you want to see what all the rave is about, you've got to play through the campaigns with 4 people, or through versus with 8 people. The beauty of L4D is how it forces people to work as a team in order to win, something that's typically pretty hard to in most games these days. For Douche-Bag-Free insurance, I strongly recommend finding some friends to play with. On PC, if you can. It's a game that was just meant for LAN, if you ask me. It also works if you know at least 3 other people with the game and play with them online.

Left 4 Dead 2, but only for melee weapons and the improved Hunter.
Jockey's annoying, Charger's overpowered, Spitter's boring to play as, Smoker's distance nerf was unnecessary and the new guns aren't even that interesting.
All overlooked on account of how much I love the fire axe.

I can't really comment on which has better characters though. Do I prefer Coach or Francis? I DON'T KNOW! ARGBLGHILG!

I prefer Left for Dead 1 because of the characters. Bill was my favorite and I miss him...

I think Left 4 Dead 2 is an improvement in everyway:
the levels are more interesting and varried,
there's more characterisation,
Nick and Ellis are the best guys ever,
more varriety in the weapons,
it's harder,
wandering witches,
Seriously man they wander around now!
I mean fuck, that bit in Hard Rain really shits you up
"Shit that's seven of them now, OH FUCK there's 2 by the safe house!"
"I think we'll be ok, OH SHIT STORM! OH SHIT JOCKEY!"
2 tanks at once
CHAINSAW!
MIDNIGHT RIDERS!
Fucking gnome...
Chargers taking you over the edge, litteraly
Improved gore, I mean this stuff is just sick now!
Better soundtrack, the New Orleans style Jazz is just great plus there's the Jukeboxes
"This one time me and my buddy Keith..."
Look at this fucking clown
"At first it was funny but then it got sad but then it got funny again."

Oh man I could go on...

Forget No Mercy and Death Toll and Blood Harvest, nothing is as exciting or terrifying as Hard Rain or Parish.

Doesnt matter, my issue is you are shooting stuff with no real story or point. Its boring just gunning down the next wave of zombies. Its why i dont play death matches online, its the same thing over and over again. Doesnt make any difference if its 4 players. I played one level, and the rest of the game was exactly the same. Also you can not sell a game that is playable one player and say its crap cos it should be played 4 player online. The online part should be an addition to the main game, but again it still jsut shooting waves of zombies. Just like death matches online, just pointless doing the same thing again and again. I enjoyed L4D for what it was, but it just bored the hell out of me after the first level.
What are you on about? Did you get no enjoyment from the set pieces or the finales, the character banter, the challenge? Saying the rest of the game is the exact same as the first level is bollocks, of course it isn't. Yes there are zombies but that doesn't make it the exact same. Thats just a seriously stupid argument, it makes no sense. It would be like saying Half Life is rubbish, all you do is shoot people. That complaint makes no logical sense. And besides you don't play games purely for their story, I mean you just don't read book or watch a film for that. Complaining that there's too much of the interactive part of an interactive medium, sounds stupid. The whole point in the Left 4 Dead games is that the story is told on the fly by the characters or the grafiti left on the walls. Would the game have been better if it was constantly broken up by cut scenes? Hell no! Besides Zombie films aren't often high on plot are they, more often than not its simply about survival. Why should a zombie game be any different?

Left 4 Dead is the better game and the fact that in both the Passing and now in Sacrifice that the original characters need to be brought back into gameplay to make it better speaks volumes about the original Left 4 Dead.

I love the 2nd game no doubt but for all of the new things, it seemed like too much flash, the original was a straightforward zombie survival game with no special frills needed to become great.

L4D1 succeeded in a sort of spooky, tense atmosphere.

L4D2 on the other hand succeeded in story continuity, better characters (zombie stereotypes that are randomly thrown together or characters that change and learn as they progress), an atmosphere of like...everything going mad and most importantly much funner gameplay, better infected, better weapons and better setpieces.

Therefore left 4 dead 2 gets my vote, I stuck by Valve when people claimed they were "Ruining it" and attempted that pathetic little boycott and, even though I must play the Australian version on a 360 which apparently noone plays over live anymore, it is just a fantastically fun game. Midnight riders, rain, gnomes, chainsaws, stock-cars, a million memes (HORSE, CHEESEBURGAH APOCALYPSE, DO YOU KNOW WUT SUCK THE HEAD MEANS!) and the ability to bash zombies brains in to "When the saints go marching in". Hell if anyone plays anymore feel free to message me for a game.
