I don't think either of them are inherently better and thus cannot vote.
Nor do I think either of them are better in my eyes.
If the poll is any indication, they are too close to call.

Dogs and Cats are pretty much tied with me. Honestly I have a closer attachment to my Lovebird than I do to my dog though. Even if she is an evil green demon summoned up from the darkest pits of Tartarus.

All I'll say is that I've never walked past a house and thought to myself. "That place smells like they own dogs."

It's a matter of preference.

I like the energy and affection of dogs far more than the 'oh, you're home' attitudes of Cats. In general, cat's are a simpler animal, but that has it's benefits.

Cat's tend to have fewer health problems as well.

if I was to be objective i'd say a dog, because they have a greater emotional impact on their owners than a cat ever can, even though they are smellier, stinkier, stupider, and more insane. Posting this here for relevance http://fun.nuencias.com/2012/10/my-dog-paradox.html

Voted Dogs
(20 for cats 21 for dogs when I voted, I am the tie breaker wheeeeeeeew!)

Anyway. Dogs make the better pet, no matter how you look at it because Cats are not pets at all, they are tyrannical overlords made of pure spite and... you get the picture.

Dogs are just better company and they don't take you for granted (Which is the impression cats give me).
Well I just voted and broke the tie 42 for cats to 41 for dogs.

Honestly...dogs have their charm but I can't favor an animal that has to turn around in a circle 3 times before it can lay down.

And cats Purr!!!

Lastly cats are scientifically proven to have a greater effect on humans than dogs!!!

Souls are overrated >.>

Cats all the way.

Dogs make so much damn noise, demand so much attention and poop all over the place.

Cats, on the other hand, are the quietest creatures ever, appreciate your attention but don't CRAVE it and they conveniently go to the bathroom in a box. Plus they meow adorably, not bark or growl loudly. And they're 190% more adorable than dogs (except hairless cats... those are just... *shiver*)

So yeah, cats.

I am going to say cats because I normally prefer them but my favorite ever was a dog. His name was Beans and he will be avenged!

I personally prefer dogs since they tend to be more personable in my experience, while cats are much more aloof. That's just not really my thing.

Why not both?

More seriously, I prefer cats. They're fluffy and soft and cuddly, and once they're not kittens anymore they're usually not extremely hyper-active at the slightest sounds.

Cats are lower maintenance but I rarely see a cat that seems to give a shit about its owner. Contrast with dogs, which can be a pain occasionally and usually cost more in food and other supplies, but then they go berserk with happy waggy tails when you come through the door and it makes all of the day's frustrations go away.

Both animals have lovely and nasty individuals, much like people. But dogs get my vote.

Isn't your avatar technically a cat?

Are you saying Klonoa has no soul?? D:

OT: Personally, I prefer dogs. There's just something about them that I can't quite place my finger on, I just love them a lot.

I love both since I grew up in a house with both and they were all adorable, but if I absolutely had to choose I'd pick dogs since I've had more dogs than cats. Cats are cool and they're exceptional for people like me who are ridiculously lazy because you can play with them and never have to get off the couch to do it (laser pointer ftw), but dogs are just more fun.

I like both but I feel like a dog is more fun to be around.
Still like both though, they can be so fluffy and cute. :D

I would like to see what owning a Husky is like though...must be tough but rewarding. ^.^

I still love cats, but they just plain don't got jack on dogs. Dogs are far superiour if we're talking usability, interaction and (specific) training. If done right, you can make use of the dogs superiour senses (the nose is magic) and they're just unique in their ability and willingness to hunt with us. I don't know of any actual occurrence, but maybe we could try to do the same thing with large cats like tigers or lions, but I doubt that would be a very good plan.

Dogs are willing to cooperate and team up with us, and as much as I loved my own cats and still like everyone else's, they're just too selfish and plain too limited when it comes to any social skills.

A proper dog will defend you, protect you, serve you for some respect, love and food, a cat will easily snap out of it and go for a decidedly more 'fuck this!' approach. Both are opportunistic in their readiness to coexist with us, some cats can grow really fond of their handlers/owners/humans, but you can achieve some really amazing relationship with a dog and make it do the darndest things for you in its willingness to do everything for you, whereas a cat generally sees us more like self-service stations for... everything. I really like the elegance and general cuddliness of most cats, but there's just nothing they can do to achieve Rottweiler levels of love and interaction.

Captcha: my beating heart - ooh how cute.

I prefer cats over dogs. Kittens and cats are just adorably cute. I consider cats the lazy man's best friend. As long as they are fed, have their kitty litter cleaned, and get attention when they want it than they are easy to live with.
