look at my avatar and guess what I chose, Dogs are idiots whereas cats are geniuses
Maybe, but because the cat are "geniuses", they are also assh*les.
I had a cat once and I love her very much.
Until one day she just left our home and go to another part of a down to find someone with a better resources of food for her personal selfish gain.
I was a little boy back then and she broked my heart....
But dogs they will be loyal to you at the very end.
That's so sad :( *cries*
The fact I don't like so much the cats or because of my personal experience I had with my cat when I was a little boy?

Btw, my cat was a Angora cat:

well both really, My uncle and Aunt have two Siamese cats, brother and sister they are and it is so fun to see them play

Well, let's look at this objectively, shall we?

More intelligent - Dogs
Better Companions - Dogs
More Loyal - Dogs
Can sniff out cancer - Dogs
Have been used to great benefit by law enforcement, rescue and military organizations for hundreds of years - Dogs
Can placate fools on internet through the medium of an image and poor spelling - Cats

I guess it really comes down to your personal preference, either you like Dogs, or you enjoy being wrong.

We left the back door open and my cat drug the biggest field rat I've ever seen (still alive, of course) right into the middle of my living room. My dog promptly picked it up and carried it back outside. Your move, cat fans.

Got nothing against cats, but dogs are simply the best. Cats just sit around all day eating ham and licking their balls. Laughing at you because they can get to high places that I can't, well I have thumbs you feline bastard, so there good luck opening the door. Dogs are just friendlier, (stupider maybe) animals. Recently got over my dislike of cats, I quite like them now, just not anywhere near as much as Doggies

Definitely cats.. had them all my life i think what wins this vote.. is they are lot easier to look after.. you dont really need to take them on walks.. you dont need to clean up after them and so on.. but not to say i dont like dogs.. im just an animal person in general but for the sake of this thread ill say CATS!

I don't think I've yet met a cat who likes me, yet ALL dogs absolutely love me. Ergo dogs are by far superior.

If you died, a loyal dog would stay by your body. A loyal cat would not know what loyalty is and chew off your face.

I choose dogs.

As of right now, an exact 50/50 tie. Damn.

OT: Cats. Cats are awesome, low maintenance, and they know how to clean up after themselves.

...Can't I like both? Yes, dogs are more high-maintenance than cats are (trust me, I know, I have both a dog and a cat), but it's really matter of preference.

I voted for cats. This one is really close, before it was cats slightly ahead, now it's dogs...

Regardless of whichever wins, I think it is fairly clear that it will be so close it makes no never mind.

I don't know why no one's pointed this out yet, but cats don't tend to maul you to death.

"Dogs are so much more sociable and loyal!" Ffffrick that! People are saying cats'll eat your face if you're dead, at least they don't tend to do it when you're frickin' alive.

And even the more friendly ones, the ones that really are loyal, well, they're upsetting for the complete opposite reason. Because of the pack mentality they pretty much act like mindless drones. I know a guy who stabs his dog in the face. For fun. And the poor creature would just follow him around wagging its tail. It's bloody tragic, I couldn't have a companion like that, I'd like someone who felt like more of my equal, who'll tell me to feck off if I'm annoying it.

All I'll say is that I've never walked past a house and thought to myself. "That place smells like they own dogs."
Seriously? Dogs reek! Have to wash your hands right after you touch them because they leave stinky grime all over you. If you own a dog I guess you're less likely to notice the smell, though. Although I don't own cats any more but I can't say I notice cat smells in people's houses yet.

Dogs were bred for centuries to be the perfect companion.

Even looking at it objectively (which is difficult for me, because I fucking love dogs), dogs are pretty much made to be our companions now.

Ever heard of cat for the blind?

Drug sniffing cat?

Cancer sniffing cat?

No?

Cats have never been more intelligent than dogs.

'Oh well, cats are smart enough to not want to learn'.

No, that is nonsense, don't confuse not being able to learn with apathy towards learning.

Cats don't learn these things because they can't, not because they don't want to.

I am a proud owner of both. That being said and at the risk of raising the ire of our feline overlords, I find dogs generally more companionable. Cats are like that roommate you talk to once a week. You get along well enough but don't really have much in common. They're asleep half the time you try to go talk to them anyways. Dogs are called man's best friend for a reason. If you feed them, love them, take care of them, you will have a friend of fanatic proportions for the rest of their life. Or maybe I just smell like a dog and that's why they seem to like me. That could be it too...

Really depends on the environment a dog with a human companion that can feed it, give it a place to sleep, and take care of it will be far better than a cat. It will fight to the death for its owners and do it effectively.

However, put a dog alone in the woods and see how long it lasts. Eventually it will die of starvation. Dogs are so domesticated that they really have forgotten how to take care of themselves. Perhaps there are some wilder breeds that are not the case, but I haven't seen them.

Now a cat loves to be petted and craves attention much like a dog, but is also independent. They prefer to be alone most of the time and get pretty skittish when those needs are not met. A cat will most likely run and hide under the bed if a murderous man appears and a cat would escape a house fire without waking up the family dying inside.

However, you put that cat in the middle of the woods and it will live for years. Cats are naturally predators and know how to survive.

So... if your asking me which animal on its own is the best I would say cats. If you mean in the best possible conditions which is best I would say dogs.
