The stupid faction. Is Quentyn the first major character in a book that exists solely to be killed?

Tyrell
-The who now? The house where the only relevant person is
The princess for little Lanny?

Tully
-This faction exists solely to ... make everyone mad? Davos and double-B thank you.

Anyway, I'm surprised no one has taken the "abandon this feudal nonsense and flee to Braavos" option.
No thanks, loser queen too loser.

I choose House Not Appearing on the List!

Dorne seems like the obvious choice. Untouched by the war and safe from all the trouble so far up north. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they jump into war and wind up falling like the other great houses.

Baratheon is stuck up north and spends too much time whining about wildlings to get anything done.

Stokeworth gets bonus points for having Bronn but other than that....

Yea, I think I'll throw my lot in with the Night's Watch instead.

And her grandmother, the Queen Of Thorns.
They're the two characters in the entire series that seem to be the best at playing the Game Of Thrones. They're diabolically clever and brilliant. No one really suspects them, their kingdom is stable and wealthy and seemingly peaceful, they're gaining power, making allies, killing off major enemies....

So yes, the princess and her grandmother. Two of the most quietly badass characters in the whole show.

I'd have to go with Stark.

I mean, I'll get fucked over and over again until the cows come home, but they do have a sense of honor. They support the Night's Watch and they know when shit is about to get real because Winter is coming, you fucks!

Also, I always root for the underdog, and I can't wait for the day with they kick some ass.

Also also, I haven't read the books yet, so if anything I said is not gonna happen, do keep it to yourself since I want to live in my little optimistic bubble. >.>

The White Walkers should be an option in the poll. I think they would bring a fresh new perspective to the Seven Kingdoms, along with a vibrant new culture of bringing dead stuff back to life.

I can't believe more people haven't joined Greyjoy. The Ironborn are basically Vikings combined with Pirates, and they worship an underwater God. I'm really hard pressed to think of something that is much cooler than that.
I imagine it has something to do with them being almost completely unsympathetic. If they're not whining about how they should have more land despite being completely uninterested in maintaining it, they're probably raping a kidnapped woman. I mean I honestly don't know how their pillage based economy works. Even the Vikings historically colonized a lot of the land they took, probably because they realized that a steady and progressive agricultural society was easier than constantly fighting for resources. I mean sure they're great fighters and sailors. But the house itself is kinda shitty, their family head is an embittered old asshole and the iron isles are generally not a nice place to live. Certainly all reasons why I wouldn't want to be pledged to the house.

For all their worship of the old and deep ones they don't really have much to show for it. Definitely not when compared to say; the Martells or the Tyrells, two houses commonly held to have good values and reasonably moral actions, in addition to strong economies and powerful political positions.
They take thralls to do most of the peasant work. The whole "we do not sow" doesn't extend to their thralls.

But yeah, they do seem to be practically allergic to victory. Instead, they manage to piss off everyone and befriend no one. Although, some of that may change by next book.

I would do a Little Finger stunt and change alliances when it suits me, then get the high lordship of a house, by being the power that controls the power or by marriage. Just a normal crusader kings game ;)

But if I had to align myself for the time being would be for the lannisters.

Braavos is run by a Sealord; they don't have a queen.

Actually, there are still three books to go; the postscript of A Dance With Dragons makes it clear that it was actually the second half of the fourth book, split because it was getting too long. Whether Martin's dedication to seven will overpower his storytelling instinct (and thus, whether we'll actually get the whole story) remains to be seen, however.
Two books to go. Hypothetically.

Fun fact: A Song of Ice and Fire was originally planned as a trilogy, with the first book ending shortly after the Red Wedding. George's penchant for letting the story get away from him didn't just start around the 4th book. The reason AFFC and ADWD read like extended travelogues is because he planned for a "five year gap" and then decided he hated writing in flashbacks so decided to fill in the intermittent period instead, resulting in a logistical nightmare because no one was positioned where he needed them for purposes of plot.

So, knowing Martin, there could be anywhere from two to twenty books remaining, depending on how much he's able to focus his narrative and get back to his original plot outline now that he's resolved most of the logistical tangle (he referred to it as the "Meereenese Knot") he wrote himself into. I'd like to be optimistic and predict Winds of Winter will be a much more focused, lean and purposeful book, but...well...

From my limited perspective (have only watched the show, didnt read books), Martell seems the safest option.

Failing that, the Tyrels seems cool plus from what I understand it's the women who tend to have the power in that family whilst the guys are kinda bumbling buffoons...Which suits me fine :)
I drink wine and act pompous whilst my female relatives do the political scheming.

I think I'm just going to be a peasant. Or maybe a pheasant.
I think pheasants have a longer life expectancy than most in ASOIAF so that might be the wise choice.

I'd swear fealty to Natalie Dormer in a heartbeat. Wait, what does fealty mean again? Doesn't matter. I'll swear regardless. She could remove my gonads and use them as earrings if she wanted.

Why no Targaryen? Before his overthrow the King was... well he wasn't called the mad king because he loved to shower his subjects with love and affections, more like deadly deadly fire and death but still they are the rightful rulers of the seven kingdoms, plus she has 3 dragons and seems to be firm but fair, at least so far but who knows maybe becoming a cruel batshit ruler is in the blood after all her brother wasn't the most reasonable or stable of individuals.

None of them. I start my own secret organization across all of the kingdoms to assassinate all of the leaders and claim control of everything myself. You have to have ambition...
