I have graduated from high school about 2 years ago and I still live with my parents.

The university I attend to is just one hour travel with train away, and train travel is for free for Dutch students. If I were to rent a room in Amsterdam instead, I would have to start working a ton more. Rooms in Amsterdam aren't cheap. Although if I live alone I would get more money from the government, it's not enough to cover the costs.

Many people I know from my study still live with their parents. The Netherlands isn't that big, and you can get where you want with train rather easily and for free.

I live about two hours away.
I'm doing a post-grad and I have a part-time job so I pay for my own bills and whatnot.

Shit... when did I become so grown up?

I'm actually pretty amazed by the results of this poll. I expected less than 15% to still live with their parents...not 60%.

That said, the posters pretty much reveal why. Where I moved to a completely different city after highschool in order to attend university, many people will continue to live at home for their post secondary studies since the commute is manageable. The majority of this site is on the younger side as well.

I'd imagine if there were an option along the lines of "I've complete all levels of education and live with my parents", the results would be around 10%

Im 19 finished school. I'm now getting qualified to do residential drafting. Even when I get that and a stable job I won't be moving out in the near future. I don't want to rush things and be back where I started and with less money.

I've been having my own place for 2 years.
I moved out 3 days before i turned 21, after having spend 2 years living with my parents, while working beyond full time and saving up for my education after finishing gymnasium (the step before university, not sure how it compares to the US system of education)

Damn i miss the days where my clothes magically cleaned themselves when i dumped them in the laundry bag, and food just spawned on the table every evening.

So what if you're living with your parents, no need to care about the western-social norms that you should be out of your house by age X or what not. A lot of cultures live with their parents until they get married.
This, I haven't lived full-time with my parents for over a year since I started university but there's no shame in doing so, it's only sad if you actually are a stereotypical shut-in who does nothing as opposed to someone who works, looks for work or studies and socialises like anyone-else.

At age 19, with no place to continue studying, no job, apartments being fuck-expensive and going to military service in 2 months... yeah, I still live with my parents. So does my sister, who is 21.

I moved out of my Father's house at sixteen for reasons I don't care to discuss. I was still in High School. I graduated through a Home-School style program. The requirement was three or more credits a week or you were removed from the program. They sent me a tassel and everything when I completed it.

-The middle part is another sob story-

I am currently twenty-three years old. Share a house with my Husband and our three dogs. Unable to find stable full-time or part-time employment, but it's not a strain and we aren't desperate. The Community College is, at most, ten minutes away by foot and I am considering signing up this coming new year. For what? I have no idea. Probably start with a G.E.D. to see exactly where I am and take it from there.

Yup, here. I live with my parents largely because its hard to find a job which will accept you and even hader to find a job which will accept you and well paying enough for a place of my own.

Is High School = Secondary School/Sixth form/College?

I'm 18 and living at home, doing a university degree in Computer Forensics & Security - I think this is a crappy post as: how could I afford to live away from home, even with a student loan and part time job?

My student loan is engulfed by car insurance/maintenance and a part-time job is nowhere near sufficient enough for living on, not to mention the 500+ jobs I've applied for in the last 6 months - even with benefits on top I would still be in an economic shit-storm and fuck myself up financially for life.

My place of education offers no student accommodation and is less than an hours drive from where my parents live. There would be absolutely no logical reason to live independently as even the social gain would be insignificant as at my parents house I'm right by a train station to the university the majority of my friends went to. Living away from my parents would only cause harm should I start living away from home; and I don't plan to move away until I'm 21/22 with a job, considering my graduation wage estimate for a first job is ~£30k - satisfying line of work and can lead on to any other line of computer-based work should I not find it satisfying.

More OT:
I do spend a lot of time playing games, but just as much out of the house all together. I don't live in a basement however; I used to play WoW in the dark, but I was in school, and I play Skyrim in the darkness too. So maybe I fit this stereotype, or maybe I don't.

I graduate Uni years ago and living with my parent. Due to the recession I haven't found a job yet so therefore it would be impossible for me to live byself unless I want myself a huge debt to somehow pay off.

22. I work as a trainee accountant 25 minutes drive away. Parents in no hurry to kick me out. I don't plan on moving out for at least another year.

I'm 21 and living with my mother's third ex husband, I have A levels but no degree. I will be getting a job at my mum's building business with her fourth husband apparently but that won't be for months yet, so until then I won't be able to afford my own place (though I am still looking for a job to help me get by until then)

I'm 18, and my first semester of college is about to end, and I'm still living with the folks. It's just cheaper that way in these times. I don't want to be like my brother who lives in an apartment that they pay for. -_-

Yes, but I'll be moving away in January because I'm leaving for USAF basic training.
And good luck to you. :) My dad's a former pilot, so I would classify myself as an "Air Force brat" haha.
Why thank you! As far as I know, I'm the only person in my family to ever serve in the military, so it's a first for us.

I'm married and live in my mother in laws house with my wife. (I'm 25, I found what I wanted in a woman early) It has nothing to do with being a geek, it has to do with this economy and how its just smarter to stay in one place and help support the family as a whole until it blows over.
