I would say Garrus. Not [i/]technically[/i] an assassin, he uses a sniper rifle, does freelance mercenary work, kills leaders and is a total badass.
How about the guy in ME2? The frog thing.

Hmm, as much as I like the guy I think he qualifies more as a leader than an assassin. Or a guy who is able and willing to kill whatever stands in his way.

I think Thane is more of an assassin, that's where my vote goes, why, just watch this.

'Sometimes, I feel regret.
Sometimes, I feel remorse.
But most of the time, I feel nothing.
I was chosen for this mission,
because killing is an art,
and I, am a master.'

Yup he's an assassin.

Can't believe this guy haven't got any votes.

I'd say Ezio wins in the AC universe, because Altair was a better-than-average Masyaf assassin who just so happened to be resistant to the Apple, but Ezio was in truth the most skillful by the end(and actually knew how to swim) and could do anything Altair could and then some. That and Ezio is just COOL! As for the main from Hitman, never played the series. Sorry.
You do realise that Altair is known as one of the best Assassins of all time?
Anyway my vote go to the tf2 Spy.
Thank you Kanye, but Taylor Swift is in another castle.

I can only compare Ezio and Altair here, as I've never played Hitman.
My vote goes for Altair, but only by a gnat's whisker. Depends on what you class as effective assassination. He's the sort of engineered, super-soldier puprose built to kill. To me, he seems like the Spartan of military forces. Focussed, disciplined, no emotional attachment to anything/anyone. He's basically a scary-ass fuck who has his targets crapping their pants, and (if you play him right) CAN be stealthy; the temptation to just hack your way through legions of guards is just too tempting however.

Ezio, on the other hand, is more a "blend into a crowd" type, and he's still effective, but here's where he falls on his face a little. It's hard to blend into a crowd when they've just seen you murder a dude right in front of them.

Depends on what you're looking for in an assassin...

Assuming he can be considered an assassin, I'm going with Ryu Hayabusa.

As for wetboys, well that's an entirely different matter.
I love you.
Not sure how I feel about Ryu, but I do know that Durzo Blint doesn't qualify as an assassin.

... Assassins can fail.

47, without a doubt. He goes in, kills the target, comes out without being seen by anyone.
That's a proper assassin, i'll tell ya.

I like Ezio, if equipment is unavailable, he's better at killing.
Only because guards are designed to roll over and die in Assassins Creed :p If Ezio's opposing AI was half that of 47's I think he would fail the whole "escape" section never mind the "get revenge"

Paul WS Anderson, he assassinated the Alien, Predator and Resident Evil franchise like a pro.

But lets get serious, my vote goes for Big Boss. He went to Russia to assassinate The Boss so it counts.

He only appears in one (fairly crappy) video game, but as far as assassins go you can't beat Jack Bauer from 24. That dude is elite. He doesn't just kill people by shooting them, or knifing them, or beating them to death, he also kills people by BITING THROUGH THEIR THROATS while he's tied to a chair and being tortured.

47,because he's the only one that I would personally call an assassin. He could kill through poison, rigged accidents, etc.

Altair gets a close second since he could be discreet. However, his repertoire of assassination still consists solely of "introduce blade to jugular."

Ezio, interesting as the character is, is not an assassin, he's a superhero. Seriously, he reminds me more of Batman than anything. Except he's not as subtle. And everyone knows who he is. And he lets himself get treated like a lackey by people he has no real reason to associate with.

Lol, but seriously "Wetboy"?

I get it, as in "wet-work." But the term wetboy just doesn't do it for me. The entire time I was reading the books I kept picturing a toddler needing his diaper changed.

Additionally, I never bought the Wetboy > Assassin arguments. It seemed like Durzo's most effective methods (poisoning, etc.) could have been carried out by anyone. It was just the over the top, "I'm going to kill you in the most elaborate way possible" stuff that required Talent.

I never really liked Thane. He wasn't a [i/]bad[/i] character, he just seemed a bit whiny for an assassin. Also, Garrus was awesome in ME1 as well, while Thane is a newcomer so Garrus just has more characterization

This. My vote goes to Kenshin (it probably doesn't help that I've seen Samurai X more times then I can count.)

Damn fast. That guy is definitely fit for the job.
Seriously. I really can't think of anyone who can compete with Kenshin. And that's just Kenshin. Battousai is just a more insane level of badass. I can imagine Kenshin teaming up with Batman, though. They both have a "No Killing" Oath.
