Dutch.

Otherwise is sexist. If they want equality, they've fucking got it.
You take that bitterness with you on dates do you?

I agree with the person who said whoever asked the other person out generally pays. Just makes sense.

I've actually gotten into an argument with a guy I was vaguely interested in about this very thing.

He was apparently raised pretty traditionally- the guy always pays for the girl.

I'm all for equality and have a decent amount of income from summer jobs- so I always split the bill. I pay for what I get and the guy pays for what he gets.

It gets... interesting, sometimes.

Boyfriend and I split it unless he's taking me out someone special or if I'm taking him somewhere special.

The women is generally expected to pay in other, physical ways. As it has been said elsewhere, it is often much easier for women to get sex from a guy than a guy to get sex from a woman. So, the man foots the bill, and the woman takes one for the team
Depending on the circumstances, that's prostitution or rape. I wouldn't call that an ideal solution.

I vote other: Whoever proposed the date. After a bit of dating, the couple can discuss who pays.
Well, its called dating too. I dont remember which, but either Family Guy or King of the Hill made that comment too basically. But what I said has been the general rule for a long time.
The fact that it's a tradition doesn't make it right. It's obviously wrong for someone to be pressured into sex because they "owe" the other person for something.

The guy. It leaves a good feeling in the girl if you pay for her food, if you're actualyl trying to date her.

If it's just friends? Screw her, money doesn't grow on trees!

Well, first we pool our money and divide it amongst ourselves:

One for you, one for me.
Two for you, one, two for me.
Three for you, one, two, three for me.
...etc.

And then we decide if it's duck season or wabbit season.

Whoever surviveswins, pays the check.

Hehehehehehehehehe.

With my most recent girlfriend (and the only one I ever went on any actual dates with), we both bought our own tickets on our first date, and on our second (which was months later) I paid.

Split it evenly. If I wanted to pay a woman to go out with me, I'd pay a more attractive woman to go out with me and guarantee sex.

I find it very aggravating when a woman expects me to pay for her dinner or buy her drinks because I think she's attractive and I refuse to do it. This does have a negative impact on my sex life, but I rather handle my own business than cave in.

Im not staing opinion. Im not arguing in favor of any method. Im just stating how things have been. Theres no point in telling me this, I was just trying to be informitive. This is just a general rule. Case by case it differs. Sometimes the woman pays, sometimes both, sometimes its two men or two women, then gender roles is different. Know who pays? The answer: Depends...

Just talk about it in advance. Seriously. Just explain you're more than happy to pay (if you are), but would like to know what he/she thinks.

I think, in general, a guy would want to get to know a cute girl and so they would take them on a 'date' to get to know them better, spend a little time, maybe get a cuddle.

To sweeten the deal usually the guy would offer to pay to help reduce the chance of getting rejected.

Once you are in a relationship the dates then become half/half but I think the inital set of dates (3 or 4) maybe more depending on the attractiveness of the guy vs the attractiveness of the girl, would be paid for by the guy.

I think if you are 'dating' then it would be more then just sex, now on the other hand for nightclubbing, the guy will almost always buy the girl a few drinks to get to know them and .... well, you can guess the rest.

If you ask a girl out, it's acceptable that he pay. I don't play that gender role nonsense though, so if it's a first date at a nicer place, when I make the reservation I tell them that we're going dutch. This allows me actually tell the waiter at the end that I'm paying, and if she wants to insist on paying for her own than she can.

I don't mind gender roles so much, it's just those expectations.

I prefer to go dutch. She is a big girl and has her own money. Now, it is a different story when the couple is living together and just pools their income. At that point it is a moo point.

My girlfriend and I take turns paying for each other. It is a flawed system.
Taco Bell one night, Sushi bar the next. Someone gets screwed.
