You're asking an impossible question. Neither is inherently 'better' as it's all down to personal taste and what people may or may not find funny. Personally, I like both. There are several American comedians and shows that I find hilarious, there are also several British comedians and shows that I find hilarious.

To reiterate, it all comes down to personal taste, there is no 'better'.
He is asking for your personal opinion on which is 'Better'.... Maybe you should try answering the question rather than arguing with it.

Anyway, i have to go british, we got alot more pedigree and history. although the greatest modern tv comedy like south park, american dad, Family guy etc, etc. make it hard to call. but being that i am british and have grown up with Monty python, Mitchell and webb, QI, black adder, Mock the week, and all those amazing pieces of comedy, it is hard to say you tanks do it better.

British stand up comedians of note: Eddie Izzard, Billy Connoly, Ross Noble, Dylan Moran(Irish but works mainly in Britain so I'm claiming him,) Bill Bailey, Frankie Boyle, Stuart Lee, Lee Mack and Lee Evans(his material ain't Shakesepeare but he fills arenas and hey, you picked Adam Sandler) are pretty good examples.

Definitely will do, forgetting this thread, I'm all about listening to new stand up. One of my friends is starting to have a few shows (only like 10 minute spots but it's pretty cool for him) in DC that I've gone to and there are some really funny obscure and local comedians too.
Definetely go for Dara O Brian, Russel Howard and Rhod Gilbert, those guys are hilarious.

I said none of the above, because your nationality doesn't determine your sense of humor. I've met plenty of hilarious American folks (namely because I'm from the U.S.) and plenty of hilarious brits.

Not to mention the fact that there's a whole world filled with hundred of countries other than the USA and England.

The thread is titled 'Who's better at comedy?' not 'Which do you prefer'. Sorry to be pedantic about it, but the title treats it like there's an objective answer. Also, I did say that I like both.

I prefer American comedians.

But there are some things/people from across the Atlantic I think are hilarious. Examples being that Top Gear UK is funnier than its American spin off and Jimmy Carr is brutal in the best way.

I like plenty of American comedians, and I find myself stumped at some British humor.

Let's face it: Americans will tend to like American humor + Monty Python, The British, I assume, will probably prefer British humor.

I like Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg, Colin Mochrae (Canadian, I think)

since there isn't an objective answer, the best we're gonna be able to do is what we prefer.

American is by far better, especially when it comes to tv shows. It doesn't look like a high school drama club filmed it, plus the Brits seem to have a weird obsession with finding the ugliest people to put on tv.

Uh the OP failed to mention what kind of comedy they were asking for -stand up, sitcom, movies etc

I'd say probably brit because I can think of more good/famous brit comedians than US ones

Neither. Comedy is subjective. Generalizations are pointless.
/Thread.
Indeed. Not much to really add, other than, just who do you prefer?

I voted British. I just prefer it a little more, but I still love shows like Arrested Development and such and much prefer them over stuff like Monty Python. Females also seem to be better at comedy in the UK (French & Saunders, Gina Yashere, Catherine Tate, etc.) than in America, which is always awesome.

Well America gave rise to legends like Richard Pryor, Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and of course, the late great legend himself, George Carlin. The list goes on but for George Carlin alone I gotta give it to America.

Canada should've been included in this poll.
A short list of Canadian funny guys:
Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Phil Hartman, Jim Carrey, Michael Cera, Mike Myers, Norm Macdonald, Harland Williams, Tom Green, Michael J. Fox, the Kids in the Hall, Colin Mochrie, Jeremy Hotz, Rick Mercer, Seth Rogen,Tommy Chong, Mike MacDonald, Howie Mandel, Will Sasso, Eugene Levy, Leslie Nielsen,Ryan Reynolds, Rick Moranis, Terrance and Phillip(ok, maybe they don't really count), Ron James, and Lorne Michaels (producer for both kids in the hall and SNL)

If a poll is to be taken, about comedy, then as far as I'm concerned, it's a broken poll without Canada.

There is no "better", there's only which kind of humor YOU prefer.

And I absolutely LOVE Community, and no British comedy show/sitcom has come close in terms of humor (imo), so I will go with America.
