Seriously, don't read Desperation. I would actually sooner re-watch Mick Garris's version of The Shining than read Desperation. Ooh, I'd also rather re-watch just the stupid, hackneyed Jack Nicholson goes crazy scenes in the original film of The Shining-- that is the film with all the good parts taken out-- than read Desperation.
What's wrong with Desperation? I liked it. I even liked the Richard Bachman companion The Regulators, not as much, but still liked it.

I'm not saying you can't dislike it, I'm just wondering why you don't like it.

I read the book some time ago, it was really great. Anyone who enjoys either fantasy or thinking strange things about games, or even both, will love the book.

PS: It's better than Pratchett (for me at least). It has more balls, it isn't as polite as Pratchett.

Not me.

His freeware games weren't good, his stupid little Machinima sketches at the end of some of his older reviews weren't good, so...I'm guessing the book won't be.
I was disappointed at the preview that we got... I don't know, if it comes to real stores I might read a bit and buy it to support him but what little I read didn't impress me. Personally, Zero/Extra Punctuation are the best things he's done and he should stick to them.

I don't read read much fiction, outside of course-relevant stuff, and I don't play MMORPGs, so I doubt (if it's very heavily focussed on that, as was my impression) I'd get all the references. I'm sure it'd be funny, and I might pick it up at some stage, but... it's not exactly at the top of my list. Next year, perhaps, if someone brings it up again at that time, because I will have enitrely forgotten about it by then.

Bought it on pre-order, read it, loved it. If you like Terry Pratchett and you like Zero Punctuation, then you'll love this book. Fantastic read from cover to cover and some good classic British humour.

It was actually really good, and was very intelligent, especially concerning the ending of it. Though I do want to rip the back cover off for spoiling something so plot important.

It was awesome, and it had more laughs than could be counted. There was the occasional incredibly bizarre section that was hilarious if you thought about it. The characters were all quite funny, and Yahtzee conveys his humor and wit.
