Poll: Why all the CoD hate?

Besides the community, I hate the sheer pretentiousness of the games. After engaging in a spree of virtually mindless violence, we are presented with an anti war quote. Also the plot is... interesting, although I admit I stopped paying attention after they portrayed Russian tanks spraying bullets into people's houses.

I just knew the instant I saw this thread that it would filled with people referring to the other bazillionth threads that was made earlier, the open-minded people who don't mind CoD, probably none of the actual haters who just hate on it for no good reason other than "it's popular=it's shit"

Also, I must not forget the people that complain about the kids with high-pitched voices, mics and the vocabulary of an angry sailor because they get owned by other people (Valid argument, but these little shits can be found in every game with a online multi-player)

CoD: MW was the last great CoD. After CoD: MW2 it's dead. No mods and just gradually less of the same game for your dollar... far to much recent Activision. Fuck you Activision. You are FAR FAR worse then EA.
Oh come on you know it's absolutely true. Imagine that? I never thought it would be possible earlier. But yeah, there you go, well done Activision.

If it weren't for mods we wouldn't have had CS
If it weren't for modders Activision wouldn't have anywhere to steal things from to add into their next CoD! Modders usually don't do it for the money... just for the hope of it and/or the respect. Activision just pisses in their faces and run off with the cash. ALSO they are doing everything they can so that we will never see another Counter-Strike (or any other great mod like that glorious model "to much coffee man" for that matter) again.

EDIT:
I haven't bought anything related to CoD since MW1. I actually have some backbone and like to stand up for myself and for what I believe in... even in the online/gaming world apparently. How nerdy is that on a scale from 6-10?

Voted "Activision" so you know.

Because since CoD 4 nothing productive has been added to the game.

The KS system is a detriment in it's MW2 onwards form.

To me the graphical power/Reskin Would have been an expansion 10 years ago factor of the game isn't really and issue. That is until it is combined with the fact that IMO gameplay has been going downhill. Makes me severely disinterested in the game.

Coupled with the extreme Monetization of the game and it's maps coupled with the removal of features furthers my annoyance with the franchise. And then they act like they should be rewarded for returning them

Missing option: The fans/players.

I played COD4 when my brothers got me a 360 for Xmas and talked me into playing with them. It was fun for a little while, but dealing with the other players was just... no.

And then you get the net-warriors. You couldn't apparently make a legitimate criticism of the game without them swarming out of the woodwork spewing venom and invective and just generally making pests of themselves. That, of course, would doubtlessly end up reflecting poorly on the game itself.

Since the single-player campaigns have gotten more and more lean, and the last thing I'm interested in doing is wading back into that craphole that is XBL, I just gave up on the games altogether, but didn't care otherwise. After a year of listening to the frothing, though, I find myself wishing they would never make another one (yeah, good luck with that).

I dont hate CoD, been playing them since 2001. Yeah the games are practically the same thing in each one, but I will give them this as a positive, they always burn up plenty of hours with me, which I feel is somewhat worthwhile.

People hate it because people are morons. It's really that simple.

Everyone sits there and says "It's the same game every year! It's not innovating! It's not realistic! The community is shit! It's only played by 12 year olds!" and then go on to say "I've never played CoD".

So let's set a few things straight.

There's a new game every year because more than one studio develops the series. They usually get worked on for 2-3 years, not 6 months.

They're not innovative because you don't have to reinvent the genre with every game. Look at Assassins Creed, Halo, GTA, Fable, Mass Effect, The Elder Scrolls, Battlefield, and all the other series' spanning 3+ games that haven't reinvented their genres with every game. The series is popular because the format works, and is enjoyed by millions of people. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I don't remember Activision ever claiming the game was hyper-realistic. Realistic surroundings and situations(in SP, obviously)? You bet(with the obvious over-the-top situation every now and then). Realistic looking weapons? Well they sure as hell aren't some space weapons firing lasers. Point me to a shooter that's realistic in every way, and I'll eat my CoD disks. Every single one from CoD+Uo expansion, all the way up to Black Ops.

"The community is shit/full of 12 year olds." is probably one of my favorite things to see. How stupid are you? Seriously. How stupid are you? There is no such thing as a good community in competitive gaming. Meaning that if someone can win, and someone can lose, there will be assholes. Your TF2 community is just as shitty as the Halo community, which is as shitty as the Battlefield community, which is as shitty as the Jedi Outcast community. They're all shit and you know it.

And exactly how many 12 year olds do you think exist? If the game was full of children, why is it that I only run into young adults/middle-aged people online? I know the PS3 has a voice changer, but damn, it isn't that good. Stop being a moron.

And no, CoD isn't ruining gaming or even the FPS genre. You're just stupid.

And the fact that I typed all that, just to have it get skipped over by everyone, and the people below me will likely say "bcuz online iz shit 12 yr oldz" makes me feel stupid.

Ah well. I haven't ranted about CoD so I figured I'd get that out of my system. Cue the responses refuting my every paragraph.

Hate on.

I Really liked cod 3, it had split scrren muliplayer and also splitscreen online whcich made it our party game of choice. I loved cod 4, It had a great campaign and truly epic online only matched beaten by halo in the console online games and only due to lack of size.cod5 or waw was a nice filler for our wait for mw2 and it indtroduced to the brilliance known as zombies. Then MW2 came out and I loved it, or thats what I would say over and over to myself. I soon relized that the game in many ways was the same as cod 4, it made it worse. All the things really good level design and subtle but action packed sequences now were "Michal Bayed" and made into expensive thrills that pilled up so much that I was more surprised that somthing didn't happen or someone didn't get killed. Is MW2 a bad game, no, but for what it was supposed to be it failed. Then came Black ops which while better than MW2, still hasent reached the standerd that cod 4 set but it got some tings right while improving others, mostly the larger option of guns which I found enjoyable. Why I hate on COD is that its on TOP right now and yet its has yet to improve or innovate, which was alright for waw, it was a filler. But know evrthing seems to be a filler in the world of COD. Yes I do know play BF:BC2, and yes it lacks the fluid conrolles of call of duty but it was new and fun and in scale slapped MW2 in the face. I don't want call of duty to fail, I want it to innovate and improve like it should have.

I like how some people complain about there being so many CoD games whilst turning around and praising the Battlefield series.

CoD: 8 games, 16 if you want to count the expansions, iPhone games, and the gaiden games or whatever you want to call them.

BF: 10 games by my count, 19 if you include the expansion packs and that Play4Free version that was only released in Japan.

Other: Because it is popular.

The poll even proves it. The two most voted for things are "All of the above" and "Community". First off, lets address the people that voted "all of the above". COD wouldn't be the top most selling game out there and a an even more common than WoW pop culture reference if EVERYTHING about the game sucked. There are plenty of games out there with NO redeeming qualities other than "they tried".
Example:

As for the votes towards community, it is a competitive game and people are dickheads when they are being competitive in general. More people = more dickheads. That is not to say anyone who plays COD is a dickhead just that the law of averages says that a popular game will have more dickheads that play it.

'All of the above' is hardly an objective to have any valid viewpoint to "hate" on a game. 'All of the above' would actually cause apathy from someone over hate. (It does after all include the "What I see no hate here" option.) "Community" just confirms the game is popular. Like it or not the game does have redeeming design decisions. So the invalidity of voting "All of the above" just confirms that not a lot of reasoning went into that persons voting. Indicating that many people voted for that for the sole reason they want to hate on the game.

Eh, Haters gonna hate.

COD 4 was the peak of COD's lifespan. Now with crappy and overhyped sequels i begin to wonder if killing off Tony Hawk's and Guitar Hero was worth it.

or are people really just shallow little pricks that just shit on everything anyone likes.
People are sick and tired of being called names for not liking a game series that's overhyped beyond belief - and then having to defend their dislike to a torrent of sweary posters.

So, all of the above because they just want to be rid of the moaning.

MULTIPLAYER:
Prestige: Stupid and pointless, you gain nothing from it. Also resets all the unlocks you have worked for each time you prestige.

Leveling system: Stupid as it makes the game unbalanced by making some guns and kill-streaks only available to higher levels leaving it hard for lower levels to kill. This in turn makes lower levels be 'n00bs' for using other frowned upon and easier techniques to kill people (n00b tubing) just so they can level up.

Spawning: Have spawned in the middle of gun-fire many times. Im not the only one who has.

Skills: Shit like 'quick hand pro' and all those other skills unbalance the game as it makes people better in certain areas of combat. Better skills are only available to higher levels unbalancing the game for lower levels even more. When you level up and unlock the skills you then prestige, resetting all the skills you unlocks you just worked for making prestige and all that work pointless, and for what? a higher number next to the word prestige just so you can boast about how much time you have wasted playing such a stupid game?

Community: Mostly made up of people who think the only things that makes a good game is guns and realistic graphics. A good game is made up from. good immersion, a good story, decant gameplay that isnt just spray n pray or just shooting for that matter and good graphics that can be cartoony if it wants to be as long as it fits in with the story and immersion. A lot of 'hardcore' CoD players think all nintendo and non-fps games are stupid despite the fact that a lot of them actually have what it takes to make a good game. sure a lot of those games are not aimed at 'gamers', but that doesnt make those types of games shit.
Example: http://chzmemebase.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/memes-lets-go-to-corneria-instead.jpg

SINGLE PLAYER:
The story is only about 6 hours long, linear and repetitive. (also they use quick time events, personally i think they are shit). They claim CoD its realistic. In MW2 you jump off a cliff over a massive gap on a snow mobile and land, wow realistic. Not to mention being shot at, hiding behind a wall and just spontaneously healing is VERY realistic aswell...
Single player/campaign needs to be longer and if they claim its realistic they need to stick to it. I WILL give them points for immersion though, but thats it.

OTHER:
The healing system is so damn retarded. Get shot, hide, heal within a few seconds then go back out guns blazing. Health bars are better then this stupid system. Get shot, you stay hurt. Also makes people think more tactically about there life other than running out, spray bullets everywhere, hiding then repeating.

Since CoD 4 all the developers have done is, reskin their previous game, add a few new pointless things or minor details and then release it as a brand new game. Theres less change per CoD game than between Fallout 3 and its expansion packs. Each CoD game is being released within about a year of each other, wow shows how much time and effort has gone into each of the games.

CoD is generic, unbalanced and full of retards. Sure it IS a fun game but so is every other generic and unbalanced fps. There are other, MUCH better games out there that are worth my money and praise.
If you have read all this then well done, you are more intelligent then the average CoD player and buyer!
So true. I voted other but it could go under the category of n00bs. I really hate the squaeky 10 year old british kids who won't stop cursing at me and everyone else who kills them. They really need to just go away.
