I think I may be misinformed about the definition of Alternative rock. This is what I consider alternative rock:

I hate it for the reason that my favorite music is always clumped in with it. Punk is not Alternative rock. I know that it is, but there is a definite line between the two.

This is completely off topic but... just when I though your avatar couldn't get any better, it did!

Ive never heard any hate for Alternative rock. mainly because for me, Alternative is kind of where I dump any music that is rock-like which I can't properly categorize. And I'm TERRIBLE at categorizing music. There's definitely hate for Emo, but I don't see it for alternative as a whole.

Also, I remember my mind being blown when I realized that Flyleaf was a Christian Rock band.

*shrug* Everybody needs a genre, don't they?

But for the most part, unless they're very, very whiny pricks, then they really aren't emo. Heck, it's
hard to tell exactly who is emo and who's jut glamoring themselves in an essence of emo.

And yes, I do like Alternative Rock. Fav? Classic, but friends have found some particular alternative rock that I've found myself listening to with no issues whatsoever.

I personally hate the term because it is a catchall word used describe just about any modern rock band. I have nothing against the genre itself, but the name doesn't mean anything anymore and is desperately in need of renaming.

Alternative is such a huge umbrella

I don't like the name "alternative rock" because it's way too general of a term. But other than that I don't dislike it. Some of it's really good and some of it's really bad. And some of it is just okay. Like every other music genre ever.

Because it's ALTERNATIVE to what most people like, and you should already know that most people are selfish, arrogant bastards who don't understand "opinions".

Define: "Alternative Rock"

That's the problem, everyone's definition of "Alternative Rock" is different. You can't really say what Alternative Rock is, so you can't really say you hate it; considering that some people say Muse are Alternative, and some people don't.

Within any genre of music there is always going to hate for bands from it. As such, people who probably haven't listened to the genre are going to think that one shitty band represents the entire genre. Take me for example, I generally listen to metal, and one metal band by the name of Bring Me The Horizon (the shittiest metal band ever), has managed to make sure half of my friends NEVER get into metal, ever. This is how hate for a genre build up. I love a lot of alternative rock. Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against, etc.

Wow, Linkin Park is alternative? I always figured bands like Radiohead, REM, and Beck Alt Rock. I mean, Linkin Park doesn't seem like an Alternative for Rock insomuch as it's more on the straight-up heavy rock side, at least their older stuff was.

I'm ok with the music, I just don't like the elitist, hardcore liberal culture that it spawned.

Depends what the hell alternative means these days.

Grunge is still the king, for me.

People hate Alternative Rock?

It all depends on what you consider "Alternative". Everything that isn't mainstream can be called alternative. So most of my favorite bands are "Alternative"

Flyleaf and 3 Days Grace are pretty mainstream for hardrock/metal bands. Think stuff from different eras.

80's:
The Smith's
Squeez
The Cure
Elvis Costello
Let's Active
U2
The Cult
The Clash can even be considered alternative

90's:
Foo Fighters
Phoenix
Radiohead
Pixies
White Zombie
Soundgarden
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails

00's:
Muse
Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Wolfmother
Quarter After
of Montreal
Does it Offend You, Yeah?

These bands are all alternative because they aren't mainstream. Flyleaf, 3 Days Grace, and Evanescence [b/]are[/b] emo crap.
