Poll: Why all the hate for Alternative Rock?

If you class the stuff from the 90's as alternative then yeah it's good, but nowadays it's kind of crap with only a few good bands being decent alternative bands.

Many dislike alternative because of the fact that it is the most comercialized form of rock

but that is just mine and everyone who i ever met and talked about this, opinion.

EDIT: I do listen to it, and enjoy some.

I'd say pop rock is the most predominant, but that's just my opinion.

Flyleaf, Three Days Grace, man I just don't like that crap. It's branded as alt-rock but it's quite commercial. But I certainly wouldn't call it emo, a band has to be pretty contrived and whiny to make it in the emo genre anymore. I don't know, maybe my opinion on modern music isn't even valid. I'm the guy on the college radio station who plays the New York Dolls and Eddie & the Hot Rods.

alternative changes too much, it used to be bands like blind melon which i love now it's largely emo and screamo crap which i honestly despise

Can we get some examples of bands that are considered Alternate Rock?

I.E., Flyleaf, Linkin Park, Evanesscence, Three Days Grace, basically anything that has been called "stupid emo shit" on Youtube.

As for my tastes, I enjoy anything from Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam (saw them the week before last, MY GAWD), Led Zeppelin to Linkin Park, Metallica (all of their music, especially 80s) to Mudvayne, Alice in Chains to Avenged Sevenfold, Red Hot Chili Peppers (all of their albums and I've seen them live thankyou very much, I'm not just one of the many that consider to be a fan because I know dani california) to Rammstein (same goes here, I have all of their albums bar herzeleid) Tool to Type O Negative, Muse to Maximum The Hormone, Primus to.... Primus, Opeth to the offspring, eh, you get the drift

There seems to be a misunderstanding of what is alternative, and yes I know that not all of that music is alternative.
