Why? Just why?

I was disgusted when I found one of my lovely 'Ask a...' threads bearing comments such as "I really hope these type of threads stop soon." and "for Gods sake not another one!!!"

So I ask again, why? Just why?

Edit: Please post a comment explaining your reasoning behind your poll choice.

Double Edit: All credit for this thread goes to Armitage Shanks (even though the suggestion was sarcastic)

Because they're usually blatant Badge-whoring.

I disagree. I find them: humourous, quite intellectual, very entertaining and very informative. For example during a particular 'Ask a...' thread Shivari asked a question concerning why men watch porn; a stampede of men defended it as stress relief plus very pleasurable at the same time. There was also alot of humorous posts during this.

Nostradamus moment ftw.
I was just thinking of that. Kudos to Armitage Shanks for accurately fortelling the future.

Yes I was trying to find the person who (sarcastically) suggested this thread. Thanks Gotham Soul.

P.S even though it was sarcastic I thought the resulting posts would be quite interesting to see.

I'm glad you had the qualifier 'usually' in there. I started the 'Why all the hate on Christianity?' thread (Which I think was the first 'Why all the hate...' thread), and I did it because I was honestly curious. I'm wasn't in it for the badges and I had NO idea that it would get as big as it did (I have requested it's lock since, as it had degraded from actually good and interesting conversation to mindless comments and flame-bait).

I said I like both threads, because it can really offer some insight into why people like or don't like whatever it is you're talking about. However, if it's 'Why all the hate on Grilled cheese?' or 'Ask an emo' or something else very pointless and silly, then I can understand other's frustration.

And please, no comments about how my thread may have been pointless or silly. I heard some very good points about other's views on my worldview, so I certainly wouldn't call it pointless or silly.

I resent these comments. I'm not interested in gaining badges for this forum; if I was, then I would have a Fable 2 badge and all of the halloween badges.

I didn't notice any interesting and intellectual comments in that great thread; If I remember correctly almost every comment was around these lines, I hate christianity because God doesn't exist and the priests rape the kiddies.

I'm a christian myself and I found it disrespectful to my religion but some of the comments were hilarious and thus starting an amazing fad.

Also, well done on creating argueably one of the best threads ever (I judge that you win 5,000,000 internets); but honestly it only started getting out of hand during the 'Why all the hate on Pastafanarianism (spelling?). I enjoyed that thread and before it was completely oblivious to the teachings of Pastafanarianism.

I said I like both threads, because it can really offer some insight into why people like or don't like whatever it is you're talking about. However, if it's 'Why all the hate on Grilled cheese?' or 'Ask an emo' or something else very pointless and silly, then I can understand other's frustration.

I dislike them because they're highly unoriginal and there's too many of them.

Because they say "Why all the hate on..." and there usually isn't any hate on said topic. To be honest the only "Ask a..." thread I have seen is the "Ask a Christian Theologican" one so I don't mind those.

Who's the quiet person who agrees with me? You afraid you'll die a painful death at the hands of one of these pessimists?

(I'm extremely hopeful that it was one of my Gonzo idols (Indigo, NecroSawnson or TheIron Ninja))

In an attempt to replicate Armitage Shanks' future-scrying powers:

Next week on the escapist, a "Why all the hate on 'Why all the hate on...' threads?"

Lol actually I was thinking about doing that but had a vague image of seeing it before.

I've got nothing against either thread, nor the creators, unless the content itself is a huge waste of time. Considering the individuals, most often, the threads have a decent amount of content to them.

I suppose, historically, I have more issues with "Why all they hate..." threads because they're already started with a very heavy slant, and it's usually one flame-baiting or another. If the content is bad, I will dislike the content, not the thread or its' posters.

So, the poll needs an option: "I am neutral to both threads."
Instead, I chose, "I love both threads." As it is more accurate.
