Well unless it is REALLY poorly worded (as in, he completely missed the right keys and accidently typed something completely different), I don't see how you can equate what he said to meaning "it's weird that gays would be treated better than asexuals"

What he said was "I would get it if they made fun of me being gay". I really don't see how that can be taken as any way other than "making fun of people who are gay is perfectly acceptable" to him. He is saying "If I was gay and they made fun of me I could see why they would do that, but they made fun of me for being asexual! They're monsters!!!!"

Am I really the only one who sees a problem with that?

I rarely play my games online so this is not an issue for me. I am not a member of a WOW guild or anything like that.

Also, on the few occasions I do go online, I concentrate on the game and not bother discussing anything with the people I am playing it with.

OT: I don't discriminate against anyone. Who you want or don't want to have sex with is up to you, it doesn't concern me in the slightest.

I'me discriminated against very rarely, and it's usually jokingly by my friends. Yahtzee actually made a great point about this, saying that most of the fanboys are kids or teenagers, who discriminate against other gamers because their mom is usually only going to buy them one console, and they dread the thought of finding out that they picked the wrong one.

Yeah, probably not, given the online community will call me derogatory terms for things I'm not (racial slurs for blacks and mexicans, as an example), pretty sure I just get blanket harassment by a group of 13 year olds who are angry at the word.

It's not his example thats faulty, its yours. I'll show you with a more on-topic example.

Consider that all individuals that make up 'people' can be divided into two categories. One is Gamers and one is Non Gamers (lets keep the example easy and assume they are both non-empty and divided evenly). Let's assume that none of the Gamers discriminate and all of the Non Gamers do.
Your first premise would be 'Many people discriminate', which would be true, since the Non Gamers all discriminate.
Your second premise would be 'All gamers are people', which would be true, since gamers are a non-empty subset of people.

Your conclusion was 'Some gamers discriminate'. Which would be false, since we specified that no Gamer discriminates. So your reasoning does not hold up.

The logic you used is formal logic, mostly based on syntactics. You can't just claim theres some semantics at play that makes everything alright, you will have to specify it. The previous counter example is spot on.

But on topic: sucks. A lot of people can be assholes, especially when they can do it relatively anonymous (I also think the way you act when youre anonymous says something about your character).

The story suggests that you are simply a minor, and thus possibly not yet fully realized your sexuallity but any human claiming to be asexual is simply a delusion.

On the real issue though,

Even if you have 4 years invested ... Its WoW. Can you really go to the zoo and spend all day in the monkey cage and be surprised when you leave covered in shit? WoWs community has always held that stigma. Buuut, my suggestion? Well... let it go. Its wrong, but nothing your going to do will make it any less wrong. Your going to have about as much luck forcing these people into being decent and respectful as they had trying to force you into appreciating hetero porn. So, move on. You might have 4 years invested with that group, but simple fact is that the only real selling point of WoW these days is the vast community of people of which to interact with, Soo... its literally a "plenty of fish in the sea" situation. Go find new people to interact with. Just dont get worked up when people start behaving like people because even though there is a human compnent to it... its still just a game, and if the nature of the game is getting you this worked up, then perhaps it is time to put it down.

I discriminate against gamers based on their ability and playing ethic, and for no other reasons. Who they are, what their preferences are or what little foibles they have are not important to me.

Just a thought. You mentioned six people making fun of you, but you didn't mention anybody standing up for you. If that was the case, and the quality of the folk in your gaming group, then I suspect that any emotional bonds you had with them were probably destructive and twisted to begin with.

It's irrelevant now anyway, just remember, there's no onus on people to accept you as you are. Whatever their reasons- even if they don't have any- people are within their rights to be as nasty to other people as they want to be at the drop of a hat. For this reason, don't waste time agonizing. Find a good group. At the first inkling that you have chosen poorly, get out of dodge. Don't waste your breath or your time.

Well at the very least you would hope someone who felt so strongly as to make a topic about getting discriminated against to casually suggest they find discrimination against a group of people they're not a part of to be perfectly acceptable.

I mean I could question a lot of things: not the least of which is the fact he was apparently such good friends with some of the people in the community, yet he has no alternative way of getting in contact with them. This might be a bit presumptious, but I think it's a fairly safe bet that people who play WoW enough to be in a guild have some sort of e-mail.

Let's not forget we are only getting one side of this story. All we're getting is what the original poster, who is very biased, is telling us what happened. I find it hard to believe you could spend four years with someone and not notice something like this about them. Especially seeing how the original poster is kind of acting like these were the only friends he had in the world.

So have you been discriminated by gamers because of some stupid reason, or because of your, beliefs, sexual orientation, nationality or similar reasons. I don't count gender here - sorry! I know it matters also but we know that happens. I wanna know if there been other reasons also.

Why wouldn't you count gender? As I see it, gender is the among the main reasons for discrimintation. I also wouldn't want to set priorities, saying discriminate people for being gay is worse than discriminating them for being black etc.

I sincerely hope you didn't mean to say that it's alright to hate on homosexuals, but that it is more common. Which is correct.

Well, I've been discriminated against for being male, vegan, polyamourous, nonsmoker, nondrinker to name a few examples. I want to clearify that I reflect on my gender, and that I get the point of the predjudices against it, so I'd say that part is more or less understandable though I hope that my behaviour leaves little to complain. With most of the other examples I think people hate to see people do other, maybe better or "more moral" things than they do. Tell someone who can hardly stand that you don't drink and chances are that he feels like an idiot. Chances also are that when he drinks his next beer he'll tell you some excuse for why he drinks it, or he mocks you for being a drag. This person knows that he does the unhealthy thing, and the fact that people don't makes him question his own decision. So, to fortify his own position he attacks the other.

I think with sexuality it is mostly fear of the unknown. I guess most homophobes are less afraid of the gay on the street, than of the gay inside, that they might start to feel that way too, which is against their beliefs.

I have no idea whiule people dislike asexuals, but my guess is that all that mating behaviour others put up to get laid must look pretty stupid from an objective point of view, doesn't it?
And to admit that you are driven by instincts others don't have...

You'd think so, but that's not the way it works. There's a massive amount of hatred aimed at bisexuals from the gay community, for example. Similarly, there's plenty of complaints that work aimed at eliminating racism doesn't involve women, and/or that white feminists don't listen to people of colour.

OT: I suppose your mad that you cant hang out with the nice people in your guild. Which does suck, granted. But why would you want to remain on a forum where the senior members are such dicks? Thats like living in under an oppresive regime because you like your neighbours. viranimus is right, there plenty of other places to go. Full to the brim of people who think A-Sexuality and being Straight-edge is the cool new thing. Find a place you want to be. Couldnt recommend any though, dont do the whole "gaming guild" thing.

While i have never, nor would i ever made direct attacks on people in my gaming community for whatever reason, i will admit to friendly banter. Granted, to outsiders it might seem like plain insults but within the community it was laughed off harmlessly. Such things as teasing someone for making a huge and very obvious mistake during raids or important game sections, (it happend to me on the Watcher in the Water raid in LOTRO, i fucked up and didnt hear the end of it for about 2 weeks.) are to be expected when you talk and play with these people on a daily basis.

I dont associate myself with the types of people that cant pipe down, shut up, keep their opinion's to themselves and get on with the job in hand, somtimes you have to just acept that these people are out there and they can be reported to the clan/guild leader to be (hopefully) banned permentantly.
