Phantom menace wasn't that bad, I kind of liked the lightsaber fights, podracing was kind of cool, and sure all the characters sucked, and the story was bland but....darth maul was cool.

Instead of talking about how and why the movies sucked, which has probably been done 100 or so times in this thread, I'm going to say that I hate them because as a Star Wars fan, I have to accept these terrible movies. And for that I hate you, George Lucas.

I watched the originals not long ago and I still reckon they're very good. The prequels I haven't seen in awhile but I thought they were alright. I need to watch them again now because of all the harsh criticism in threads like these, I really need to make sure it wasn't just because I had lower standards as a young teen.

I liked Episode 1 and 3. Yes Episode 2 was laughably awful with the "love story" and Anakin's angst.
I much prefer the impressive saber battles in the prequels than the original trilogy.
Yeah, that was basically the only good thing about the prequels, the lightsaber choreography was way better.

The only things i like about the prequels: the design for the clone trooper armor, wich is cool. And the pew-pew space battle scenes (despite how there is wayyyyy too much pointless crap everywhere, like the colored explosions that saturate every scene but have not point of origin or purpose)

For everything else, it was boring on all levels. Script, "tactics" employed by everyone (wich is usually mindless suicidal frontal charge no matter the situation), characters..

I only hate'em because they come on Spike TV all the fucking time and it basically ruined the experience. Plus all the 6 Star Wars movies suck ass overall looking back at the story. Yet the universe of Star Wars is WAY more interesting, I always thought the Star Wars games were better then the movies.

To me, the prequels were somewhat similar of what Star Trek: Enterprise did wrong. A new saga set before everything else? Sounds ok so far. New characters to love and hate? Sure why not. This completely independent stand alone story arc that only briefly retcons the universe it's set in? Pass!

Don't get me wrong, it was interesting to see the Clone wars in action, but it did almost annihilate the original back story surrounding Boba Fett's upbringing. That's another thing that bugs me about the prequels; in some instances, they insist on their own canon taking precedence (it didn't help to re-interpret the origins of the Death Star too, sorry)

First, there was Jar-Jar, which in and of itself is a crime.
The tech in the prequels was more advanced than the tech in the original trilogy. I hated how flashy and flippy-twirly the lightsaber battles got, they looked more like gymnastic events than actual fights.
The story and dialogue were god awful, the 'love story' was laughable, and the explanation of the force was fucking idiotic.
Midi-chlorians indicate force sensitivity, they aren't the force itself.

OT: Episode 2 is the worst, I really enjoy Episode 3 (although Anakin's descent feels a little rushed), Episode 1 is alright.

Jar Jar is neither here nor there. I mean really, the original trilogy had incest and Ewoks.

Oh, and Anakin is not "whiny". I can let it slide for comments regarding AotC, but in Revenge he really isn't. As for people saying he doesn't seem like Vader at all, that's because Vader is around 50, and pre-Vader Anakin is in his early twenties. Normal people don't stay the same, let alone guys who've had their mothers killed, betrayed everyone they know without really meaning too, and believe they killed their own wife, before spending the majority of their life doing things for an evil old twat.

Of course he's not the same fucking person.

I actually don't hate the Star Wars prequels

Thing is I wasn't around for the original trilogy due to my whole not being born yet. As such the prequels were the star wars movies that I grew up with. I cannot hate them because they were what introduced me to the entire series, and I have remained a diehard fan of the whole mythos since then. (hell im wearing an x-wing shirt now)

See I know that there were problems and I never did enjoy Jar Jar but It still doesn't bother me. I was a kid when I saw the prequels so I didn't give a crap about the flaws, I instead enjoyed them for what they were without overthinking too much about every little detail that went against the originals.

I do love the original trilogy don't get me wrong I just do not hate the prequels, they are so much better than many movies made today and I feel no one gives them enough credit.

Also my favorite of the originals was Return. Empire was extremely good as well, but I feel 4 was the weakest of the three.

This is all just my opinion though.

Honestly thought the original had better choreography when it came to the fight scenes, well mainly the tesb and troj. I don't know if this makes sense given that we're talking about a sci-fi film and realism isn't a factor but the original fights just looked more real. They had more impact to them. The new ones look a little too choreographed. A little too slick and elegant.

I'm probably not making too much sense. However if preferred the originals for that too. I think this kind of choreography would have been better in a different kind of movie. I understand the handwave to it but still, didn't feel as good to me.

That and the lightsabre duels in the original had more context to them, more emotion to them. They felt like they belonged there. While in the new ones, few of them have that. The famous and most like fight (the Darth Maul fight) had almost no context to it or purpose other than "We need a fight scene". Which honestly, might have been okay if this was purely and action series but it isn't... Though even in those there's at least some sort of context, mainly campy stuff like "You killed my father" but still...

Hayden "Annie" Christianson and those god awful battle droids were the only things I hated about the prequel trilogies.

Other than those, I loved 'em and I'm proud.

And if anyone thinks I'm a lesser person for it, they can kiss my ass.

What part about them sucked? I'd say most of it.

Child Actors suck (for the most part) so don't focus the whole movie on them. I'm looknig at you Episode 1. What was wrong with having Obi-wan and Anakin already as master & apprentice? This would remove Qui-gon's totally unnecessary character from Ep 1.

Retarded characters, both from a dialogue and logical perspective. If Anakin is supposed to 'bring balance to the force' then why the hell would the prosperous and numerous jedi want to train him and even their own numbers out with the considered-extinct sith? This has no bearing on the overall plot other than 'he cannot be trained' which is already covered by the 'he is too old' BS. If this was supposed to be foreshadowing, it failed spectacularly.

Overuse of CGI on EVERYTHING. The Millenium Falcon had a somewhat personal touch because it was actually there, not to be rendered into later.

Direction sucked. There are good actors in here, but they all give such terrible performances with their dialogue that I must be forced to assume the director told them to say their lines that way. Episode 3 was a bit better in this case, but still you could tell that if the actors were allowed to do their own thing, it would have been better.

Padame's secret love affair doesn't make sense from her perspective. From Anakin's it does, but she uses the excuse: 'I'm a Senator.' What, senators in the Republic can't get freaky while in office? What kind of system is that?

1. Anakin Skywalker was horribe miscast.
2. The writing wasn't up to par with the originals.
3. Lucas ultimately wanted to appeal to children and a broader range to rake in the money, instead of deliver a movie for the original generations of fans, while making the newer generations adjust to the category of a "1970's Space Opera".
4. Too many "goofy moments" altogether.
5. Over emphasis on the lightsaber fights.
6. Even then the lightsaber fights appear overly choreographed instead of a true "I have to kill this other person" moment. See the Dooku fight from Episode 2.
7. Over reliance on technology.

Remember guys: Whenever the original movies came out Lucas stated "I don't want a single dime for the tickets sold. I just want full rights to the merchandise". He's a businessman, not a film maker.

I enjoyed the prequels. the original trilogy always got the 'final fantasy 7' treatment from everyone. I thought luke skywalker was a whiny little *****. Which fits with his father in the prequels! I like them equally, i'd say.

If nobody yet mentioned it, I strongly suggest watching reviews from Harry S. Plinkett on redlettermedia.com. There is answer to suckability in depth.

I for one do not 'hate' the prequels. However a few things did bother me. Medi-chlorians (or however the hades you spell that) and the virgin birth, bothered me. But honestly the part that bothered me the most FAR more then any other was when Padme died during childbirth, it completely contradicts Leia's story in episode VI where her and Luke have the touching heart-to-heart about how Leia remembers her mother, and how she was always sad. In fact she mentions that she died when she was very young. Young? as in 5 minutes old? c'mon! It was a good scene that gave us an honest connection between Luke and Leia, and gives meaning to why he's so upset when Vader finds that fact out.
Not quite. The Skywalker family had a deep connection with the force. If we forget the medichlorian stuff, even with the mythos of the original series it's possible that Lea remembers her mother through the life swirling energy that is the "force."

OT: I don't hate the prequels. There was so much potential that could have made them all the more better. Both Anakins should have been replaced with better actors. The kid actor I can slide a little because, well, he could at least show the emotions of a little kid. But the older Anakin was terrible at emoting. Everything he said felt like he was trying too hard to act or show emotion. The love scenes weren't enchanting in any way, they just felt too generic and bland. Nothing was special about them.

Some of the negative criticism I don't even understand. For one, the tech difference between the prequels and the original. First of all, look at the type of planets that are shown in the original: Desert, Forest, and a Tundra. Of COURSE those planets are going to have low technology, they're all hostile to live on and what not. Secondly, all the really big tech planets like Coruscant only appeared in the prequels. And even when the planets did show up in between the two sets of movies, almost nothing about them did change at all. The appearance of Mos Eisly in the prequels looked exactly the same as it did in the original, as did Coruscant at the end of Return of the Jedi.

As for Jar-Jar, I could care less. Yes, he's annoying. And like Rebecca Black and Friday, we should all get over it and move on.

Jar-Jar binks was just lulzy.

But I'm fine with almost everything pre-Yavin. I love all the lore taking place before the death of Darth Vader. All of the lore after it is pretty depressing as far as I'm concerned. You just see all your favorite characters fall to the dark side, and die. It's quite saddening.

While all the prequel lore is all about developing, and really interesting wars. KOTOR is brilliant in this respect.

I hate the prequels with a burning venom, except for Darth Maul, why you ask? That double bladed lightsaber, I don't care how unwieldy it would probably be in real life, that thing is awesome, the rest however.... did I mention that lightsaber was cool?

Oh and 5 was my favorite, something about those AT-ATs caused my childlike mind to go crazy...and it still does today

I liked the prequels. they will never beat the originals but they are certainly good. Also, four people make them good:

Darth Maul (Holy shit he looks awesome, and double sided lightsaber!)
Qui Gon Jin (Because he's Liam Neeson)
Jango Fett (Becaause he's Jango)
Mace Windu (Because He's Samuel Jackson)
