Poll: Why do YOU like anime?

To each his own, but I'm curious as to why people seem to like anime so much. It's like..cartoons that look like they were made by 6 year olds that have Asian (Japanese to be specific) eyes, and extremely graphic violence.

Ofcourse, that's just what I get from it.

And again, to each his own, everyone has a different taste in what they watch.

So I make-ith a poll, which asks you what you think of Anime and Manga (..which are kinda the same thing except manga is an anime graphic novel..right?).

Also, INB4 someone comes in saying that I should just stfu and let people have their own opinions. I'll try and make it clear I'M JUST CURIOUS AND NOT SHOVING MY THOUGHTS DOWN YOUR THROAT, KK?

I used to love anime.

And now, for the life of me I couldn't explain why to you. Certain ones that I'd go back to watch (Dragonball and DBZ, Zoids: Chaotic Century) I could explain it with the nostalgia factor, and most of the Gundam shows were awesome just because it's giant fucking robots, but other than that I couldn't tell you.

Only reason I want to see Halo: Legends is because it's Halo, not because it's anime.

Eh, it really depends for me. I get a laugh at how bad certain ones are and to be safe I won't name them - it's all subjective anyways - and I manage to find some good ones along the way.

Still, can't say I'd ever watch anime on the internet subbed, too lazy and/or apathetic for that.

I don't know. I only ever watched a couple, but they tend to have a decent story that gets me hooked. But at the same time, I can't stand some of the people who watch it (y'know, like the people who thinks it's only good in the original Japanese even if 4Kids didn't screw it over. I just don't get that).

I've never seen the appeal in cartoons from an entirely different culture with pop culture references that no one stateside will get and (usually) cheesy dubbing.

Because anime is based off of manga which comes in thousands of forms and includes genres from comedy, drama, romance, action, mystery. There is always something for everyone, and the better ones become Anime. There is A LOT of talent and work that goes into most Anime movies, and are not the work of 6 year olds.

I'm curious as to what anime you've watched to give you that impression.

Yeah I like it quite a bit. A lot of the shows I've watched absolutely trump the crap on American TV these days in my opinion. There's a lot of different shows with storylines I find interesting. I also like Japanese culture and find Japanese itself to be a lovely language. That's just what I think.

Still, I'm curious as to what your experiences with anime are. Mind listing the series you've watched to give you your impression?

Because anime is just as valid a form of entertainment as any other?
You come off as having watched very little in the way of actual anime.

Go watch Cowboy Bebop, you'll find, regardless of it being a, get this, cartoon (from Japan, yeah, get that), it's awesome.

Besides that, anime is the way cartoons are supposed to be.
No, I don't mean the stereotypical ones with kaiwaa girls and men getting brutalised for commenting that the female lead is a fucking whore.

I mean cartoons like real movies, just animated, that's all the difference between them and a real movie is.
Western cartoons are constantly kept at a kid friendly level and it's really quite silly.

Well I guess it can be described as a better drawn cartoon with... yeah. Violence. You're not gonna get a guy being chopped in half by a 12 ft sword on daytime television cartoons.

I never cared to watch any anime. Actually, I watched like a minute and 30 seconds from Bleach and just couldn't take what kind of crappiness it was.
