Okay so you've played Half-Life and Slaughtered hundreds of Combine on your way with your little gang of rebels...........
Okay REALITY CHECK!!! Okay in all the Youtube and other internet videos i've seen The Combine absolutely suck. In all honesty this is what should be going on, if it were real.......

Okay the Combine are mutated Humans transformed into soldiers, CORRECT?( if not just say so) SO wouldn't they receive like, dimensional class combat training, while the rebels had to rely on the skills nature handed them? Thats an advantage already. Also the rebels are basically wearing puffy sweaters and the combinehave super-advanced combat aremor that, in reality, would probably stop most bullets from the pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and a crowbar. So most rebel weapons would not kill them so quickly, or even at all. Real military armor TODAY can stop a 10mm bullet, imagine that with futuistic technology. Also the Combine have huge resources, rebels..... not so much. So mostly what i'm saying is in a movie Combine encounters should be more...... extreme(avoid more than fight) and if a fight occurs it should be intense and difficult.

SO... in a vidoegame combine suck=okay but in a movie they should be given more respect. SO give me your thoughts........

I personally think the Combine kick large amounts of ass.. It's just that since they are the games main villains, they are going to be given lots of flak, especially if someone dies by their hands. I know I have cussed them out more than a few times. Same can be said with headcrabs and antlions.

The Combine are essentially an empire of space Nazis, Nazis should die because of all the immensely terrible things they would do.

Good always win same argument can be used with stormtroopers and such
Stormtroopers don't necessarily suck, just their armor

OT: They were decent in HL2 on Hard

I believe this is something known as 'Suspension of Disbelief.'

It means that you take whatever it throws at you. If hyperadvanced power armor can be easily penetrated by a scientist with a crowbar, okay. If bullets do not pierce the rebel's fluffy sweaters, so be it. If G-Man defies the laws of time and space, alrighty then. You shouldn't look so deeply into things, you're just supposed to play the game and take everything as it is presented.

Leaving out Gordon, because hes got the HEV suit.

The way I see it the combine infantry consist of:
Metrocops, who are just ordinary humans in uniforms, the bullies and collaborators of the society, they are given basic training and let loose to abuse civilians. The joined because they wanted to live more comfortably or because of a sadistic need for power. Uniforms mainly for show and to inspire fear. Used to getting what they want.

Combine soldiers, I got the impression that these guy under took augmentation, training and re-education with probably some heavy conditioning. Probably have less concept of self, often threatened with death for mistakes. Got to get the job done, die doing it or die for failing that sort of mentality.

Combine Elite, more closely related to striders and hunters than a real person anymore (they don't bleed). Obey orders unquestioningly like robots.

Now most of the rebels (prior to open revolution), they have been fighting for many years, many may have military backgrounds or have learnt quickly in the years that have followed the seven hour war.

They have a few things that are advantages, conviction, this allows them to overcome the metrocops, to avoid a cliche but those bullies are probably deep down cowards (otherwise they'd probably be combine soldiers by now).

Now they also they have the advantage is that they don't want to die. If you've read "The Forever", human soldiers are better then those of a hive-mind because each of them are trying their darnedest so that neither they or their allies die.

The also have individuality, the combine follow orders and that's all. Where as each rebel is planning and adapting for every situations.

Now the combine have numbers and advanced weapons, that's why they have the rebels on the run, not because their soldiers are necessarily better.

On another note has anyone read the fan fiction half-life parabellum?

Here's the skinny. Yeah, we have armor today that can stop a 10mm bullet. You know how many people fighting wars actually have that? About, 10%, if that. Chances are that they have combine controlling the entire planet. The US can't even properly equip enough people to invade Iraq. I've seen some of the shit they try to pull when issuing gear. They cut corners because the good shit, is expensive. If the combine's overlords are anything like earths leaders now, they are going for cheap... and cheap isn't the STOPS EVERYTHING THAT MOVES armor... it's the crappy paper thin uniforms the combine have now.

Thank you.

Since when did the crowbar shoot bullets?
Nit-picking aside, the Combine are idiots because their battle stradagy consists of:
. Stand in open.
. Shoot wildly.
. Hope not to die.

The essential reason is that throughout Half-Life 2, we have not met the Combine, only Combine Overwatch, the locally sourced slave forces they left behind to keep Earth in line. Right now, if the actual Combine came back, the rebels would be hosed.

Probably the combine guarding the city aren't the most powerful ones, since they probably don't have the best armour / weapons for everyone; but I do agree that they should have had some special combat training, since they aren't human and therefore should be able to withstand more strict training.

If the question is about whether they would be as bad in a FILM, then I chose the option that they would be more dangerous in films, simply because endless battles scenes with guards that look the same doesn't really make for a good movie...

I just wish everyone would leave the Headcrabs in peace. Remember the end of the Ravenholm chapter, where you plummet into that little chamber? They were just playing around, having fun, but then Gordon drops in and kills them all. It's disgraceful.

Well good thing its just a game then eh.

To answer your topic, obviously the combine should be a bit buffer in these hypothetical movies, but Gordon Freeman should still kick seven shades of ass.

The Human Combine troopers are essentially cannon fodder. If you notice all your encounters with a proper combine (advisor) have gone... less than smoothly...

The human troopers are basically worthless, they are ordered to just move and shoot and that's probably as far as their intelligence goes post Combine. So far we've only really met the garrison forces of the Combine, I'd love to get some fights against their military proper.
