I seriously hope you were joking there.

Ok, I'm assuming you (the OP) is a console only player or you would most likely know that Apple computers are complete shit if you want to play a game. Them making something that has the soul purpose of playing games is very unlikely. Plus it would probably be another bland white box, that has nothing that is really unique to it, and cost 3x more than any other console.

Someone that owns an iPod/iPhone as their only piece of tech is probably too fey and self-consciously "cool" to want to condescend to playing "video games" (yes, they probably put a space in there).

There's no money in making game consoles, so why would they bother? Only Nintendo are actually making profit from console sales, and that's by using a cheap, high volume strategy, not really Apple's style.

Sony and Microsoft use their consoles as loss leaders. In Sony's case; the PS3 won the DVD format war with Blue Ray (although it remains to be seen how useful that will be in the long term), and they've sold a whole bunch of HD TVs. Microsoft are making money through game Royalties and Xbox live subscriptions, plus I suspect they were hoping for bigger things with Windows live and MSN integration.

Apple really don't need a bigger market share in their core business so there's no point them throwing money down the drain on a console.

I think though that we should all take a moment to imagine the sheer fanboy hell that would be unleashed from Apple entering the market. *shudder*

Wasn't there one already?
Doesn't matter anyhow, I doubt it would be anything special.

Yes, the new apple system will be packaged with one, (and only one) game. It's called "Starbucks iDVenture" in which you play a trendy albeit mentally deficient day trader, who sits around in a coffee shop all day trading snide remarks with the staff.

The game will surpass the wii in simplicity of control, as for there will be only two buttons: Sip, and Sneer.

Seriously though, Apple has cornered the market on trendy user friendly plastic bubble computers that won't run anything worth playing, (Myst was chill, but the pc graphics where identical.) 60% of their product is just raw aesthetic, they don't have the stones or the wherewithal to go through with a console release.

They do. It's called the iPhone. Didn't you hear? It's better for gaming than the DS and the PSP.

Or so Apple would have you believe anyway.
I don't have a PSP, so I don't know about that, but I far prefer to play on the iPod than the DS.
How is it to live with absolutely no taste whatsoever?
It's working out fine, thanks.
Agreed, the DS is really not any fun to use.. In any way

That's exactly what we need: another brand of console to choose not to buy.

Anyone else remember when Halo was gonna come out for the Mac first (you know, before Microsoft stepped in and bought Bungie)?

No, just no. As soon as they put out a console the internet will become flooded with gaming dilettantes telling me that I'm an idiot for having a non-apple console without realizing how bad and overpriced their "console" is. It would suck big time. Dear god if they make and apple console I will personally go to each apple store and

I love my Mac but it sucks ass for games.

Apple has had a small and very bad history with games (see the pippin), in the early part of this decade they showed off a small title called Halo:CE they were going in a gaming path then Microsoft came down and cock blocked them by giving Bungie a few piles of money. Then they got into music and made enough money to buy Austria. The End

Hell maybe if they try it again they can make even more money.

Because theres a high enough console failure rate with the xbox 360 bein around.... hardly need apple to help make those figures so much worse.

It's called a Xbox360.
Sure that's a mircosoft owned box but all it's games cry apple.
Halo was meant to be a mac game and if you think about it, it makes sense.
It's just that apple didn't have the vision to do it.
An Xbox360 user is much more likely to buy a mac then a pc.
Complexity is after all what people who play on a xbox360 dislike the most.

I own a 360, a gaming PC and not a single Apple product. I doubt I'm the only one.

Nah, they should just stick to the phone and music business.
Fixed that for you. The iPhone is about as good a phone as it is a games console - pathetically bad in either instance [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.155147].
Haven't mentioned this before, but I loved reading that. I really did.
