I'm going to get a gaming computer, so I'm wondering how well Vista works. Is it still super buggy, of have they fixed that?

Vista is pretty good, but you're better off waiting for Windows 7. 7 is better.

Everyone always bitches about vista, I have vista 64 and I love it as a gaming pc. Works like a charm. The only thing I would watch for is RAM, you need alot for Vista, minimum 2 gigs, but i'd suggest 4-6 gigs of RAM.

There should be no problem if you're going to be playing recent games on your new rig. But older ones like Darkseed, System Shock 2, and Harvester may need to be patched.

As for Vista in general: It locks up alot. The problems still exist. Does it work? Sure. But is it great? That's stretching it.

For me, Vista has wiped my hard-drive 3 separate times, randomly crashes to do disk checks, and is just plain slow. It may just be a problem for me, but I don't recommend getting Vista.

Get Vista, but keep XP.

Multibooting is always the best option.

Also, Vista requires allot more setup than XP. You need to set stuff up like the hidden Admin account, and a bunch of visual tweaks before it gets on par with XP.

It's not super buggy (from my limited usage of my brothers laptop), but it is extremely annoying with its high security priority. Its not the most user friendly OS and with Windows 7 about 2 months away (if that), it would be wise to not get your computer until 7 is out.

Up to you, by I'm getting Windows 7 on my new gaming comp when I get it.

The only problems with vista are higher memory usage(which won't be a problem if you get a good gaming computer) and the the annoying UAC stuff which pops up to check for your permission. ever since I turned off the UAC, all my problems with Vista have gone away and it's been perfect.

Go ahead and get Vista, I believe they are offering a free upgrade to W7 anyway. Personally, I don't know what all the whining was about with Vista, true, it had its problems and bugs, but it wasn't the bane of OSs like so many people claimed it was.

I've had an HP dv6000 for over a year, and i've never had a single glitch. Get lots of ram (at least 3 preferably 4), and you should be just fine. Oh, and when you get it the first thing you want to do is go into the startup programs and trim the fat off. That sped up my computer a load.

I've used Vista for a while now, it looks good (looks a lot like Mac), I had to wipe my hard drive 3 times because of failed updates that would install just enough to wipe the back up, and it has the incredibly annoying habit of asking "Are you Sure?" EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

For a gaming computer, you'd best stick to XP for a while longer. Vista uses up more resources - resources that you can't use for the actual gaming.

I have both, since I got Vista with the last computer I bought. It's got a few handy tricks up its sleeves, but those are tricks you won't be using while you're playing games anyway.

You sure it's not just an Affinity problem?

Never cared much for Vista. Nags way to much for my tastes. If I want something done, I don't want to confirm I want it done multiple times before the system actually does anything.

Vista was never finished
I am totally convinced that they should have released an upgraded XP and then smoothed out VISTA for another 20 months

but I think its good

I say yes, yes its good. but it needed to be fine tuned
