I'm going to get a gaming computer, so I'm wondering how well Vista works. Is it still super buggy, of have they fixed that?
If you buy a new computer with VISTA on it some stores will give you a free upgrade to "7" when that comes out

so Id go for VISTA for the cheaper option, then get 7 for free later

(Staples and Office Max have that deal I think)

I have Vista (Business, I believe), and it works just fine. The only irritant I've found is the security, as Kushin mentioned, but on the whole it's only a minor annoyance. It's never crashed on me, I haven't encountered any bugs... I'm happy with it.

I'm using Windows 7, and believe me and everyone else that has already said it in this thread... it's better than Vista. It's what Vista should have been the first time through. Skip Vista and get W7 when it's out (I have a full version already because of my university). As for gaming - runs fine for me, I see no issues. I have yet to have any problems with any games that I've played on my pc.

EDIT: I would like to point out a few things, as I've gotten some messages from people asking about W7. If you have a computer that is running Vista, then YES, you can of course run W7. W7 takes up less space and runs way less processes. As for whether you want 64 bit or 32 bit, that's up to your needs. 64 bit is good if you intend on running more than 4 gigs of RAM and need to do stuff that requires 64 bit processing. This is because 32 bit operating systems can only really "see" a max of 4 gigs of RAM and will only use about 3.5. Also consider that some applications will not run or do not have 64 bit support. If you're an average user it's safe to stick with 32 bit. If you're building a beast of a machine to run games at max settings and such, go ahead and grab 4+ gigs of RAM and Windows 7 x64.

For me, Vista has wiped my hard-drive 3 separate times, randomly crashes to do disk checks, and is just plain slow. It may just be a problem for me, but I don't recommend getting Vista.
Sounds like faulty hardware like a bad stick of RAM or something along those lines. Vista is capable of that but I would consider getting the service pack then lol.

It's not bad these days. Was ridiculously buggy and horrid for about 9 months after it came out.

To parrot the other intelligent people in this thread, Windows 7 is significantly better than Vista.

Nonononono. Stay the f*ck away from Vista. Wait for Windows 8. I had Vista running until a month ago, and it was terrible.

EDIT: Or is it Windows 7? Just get the next one if you MUST run windows.

I have had no problems with Vista and to be honest believe that the second Apple heard that it a couple of bugs (which were fixed a few weeks later) they jumped all over it making people believe it was worst operating system ever made.
Edit: Oh yeah, Windows 7 will be great anyway so just use Vista for the free upgrade.

I switched the hard drive, RAM, and processor after the first two times, and the service pack didn't help. It's a bit saddening, but the hard drive wipes haven't happened recently, but a disk check happened yesterday. Ah well, I'll live.

As a PC gamer I have to say Vista is atrocious. But on a PC just used for recreation then it's fine.

But just like every OS, know this! All games coming out now, will not have been tested in a W7 environment.... So good luck with all the issues that will cause 8)

I love Vista (Good computer with 8g Ram)... Works great. I even Multibooted the W7 Beta and there were way too many issues with some games I am playing AA3 for example.

I am currently using Vista until windows 7 is released, then we shall see how others go ;)

A friend of mine put it best; "XP is better than vista, but not by enough to warrent the effort to reinstall."
