Yes. It has never had any in the game, and it wouldn't go with the style of gameplay (old-style pc shooter, fast paced, run through and fuck bad guys up).

Isn't it called "eye-in-sight" not "iron sight".

You're placing your eye down the sight of the gun... I think people have been mis-hearing it
Depends. Many guns in FPS games (and real life) have actual iron sights. Though in gaming, they're often called iron sights whether they're actually iron sights or not.

Personally, I'd like a wider number of more precise terms, though. "Iron sights" in the gaming community currently seems to be able to refer to zooming, filling half your screen with a gun, and/or sometimes auto-snap aiming.
I know what the annotation in the gaming community means, I'm just a little confused as to how we arrived at it.

When you aim with a gun you aim "down the sight" hence "eye-in sight" how did it become "iron"?

EDIT:

nevermind. I googled it. I guess it makes sense, still seems a tad illogical to me, but then again. I'm not a vulcan.

I honestly would like to see iron sight aiming stay as far away from the HL series as possible. So far HL has played wonderfully without them, so I see no need to add them now.

I see no point for iron sights in ANY game let alone Half-Life. I like the shooting just fine the way it is.
That said, I would consider sniper riffles, that would come in handy...

It would make me incredibly disappointed in Valve if they installed iron sights on Freeman's guns. I find that most of the time if a game has iron sights they will get me killed at least half the time i pause to use them. With my grime incrusted console gaming fingers iron sights always come of as awkward at best, And this too remained true when i played COD on PC. 99% of the time I did much better with out iron sights. Then again i do loathe with a passion most trends in modern fps so much that I've stopped playing them. As such Dr. Freeman and his numerical health bar and run-n-gun tactics remain a beacon of hope that one day FPS games might be worth while once more.

The game doesn't need iron sights, but adding them wouldn't ruin it. The interface in Valve games is traditionally very economical, so I can't see them adding anything like that unless they thought there was a really good reason for it (like when they added a zoom button to Portal 2, which was very helpful in some of the larger areas). But having one extra dopey feature wouldn't ruin an otherwise good game, no.

Half life is mainly CQC, or bosses you kill with rockets/magic explodey things.

So in short, it really isn't needed, and would make close range encounters a pain.

iron sights often make it hard to see what the hell you're shooting at, or if someone else is shooting you. that being said, i grew up on iron sights-less fps games, and don't see what exactly they add.

Regenerating health - Yes.
Iron Sights - No.

Seriously, I don't get all these people who think that iron sights would ruin a game. If it was the only way to shoot, yes, that would be bad, but as an option, it would be nice. You don't know how many times I wished I could look down the sights on the SMG to get a better aim at some Combine who were some distance away.

Regenerating health, cover-based mechanics and a bad ending would have a much worse effect on the game than looking through gun sights.

Besides, it doesn't really matter anymore anyway because VALVe doesn't give a shit about the Half-Life series anymore. I thought they did. At one time I would have dissed any notion that they wouldn't make a sequel. But since Episode Two's release, they've made a new franchise, made a sequel to it, added umpteen million TF2 updates, got a sequel to a game released at the same time as Ep2 and now Counter-Strike is going to get a sequel before Half-Life 2. Really, I have just lost all interest in the series.

Iron sights will not make or break the game. They are meaningless, and thus we don't need them. If they end up in the game, whatever I don't care, but why would anyone?

Also how would this even work with the gravity gun? It not only doesn't have "iron sights", but it's a gun that picks up things so how would we aim it with the iron sights and the object in the way?
I just don't really see the value in having this. From what I experienced in Fallout 3 and New Vegas nothing really changed. If so many people are asking for this then how about they do it like New Vegas, and make it optional?

Speaking as a diehard half-life fan, I dont think it would add anything to the game, I think the shooting works well already, but I don't think it would ruin it either.

Look at Fallout. The biggest improvement (not saying vegas is better than 3) that new vegas had over fallout 3 was the iron sights.

NO. NO IRON SIGHT AIMING.

Half Life doesn't need it and we certainly don't want it to be anything like Call of Duty or any of it's retarded clones.

Although, this brings up another point, how the fuck are Valve going to pull off CS:GO on consoles without ironsights? It works on PC because of the mouse/keyboard, but how will we aim properly with a controller? And ironsights would just make it identical to almost any other shooter.

uh... why exactly does half life need iron sights?

How else would you aim the grande launcher properly?!
Half Life already uses scopes. Scoped crossbow.

That depends on how well it's done, frankly. If they do it well, then it would just be different. If they do it poorly, it would be different and ruined.

Also, I'm a little annoyed at all the kneejerk reactions that everyone here is having to the suggestion, just because Call of Duty uses iron sights. I understand that hating on Call of Duty is kind of a sub-culture on this website, but isn't resisting change to the series at all costs and then going off to complain about how there's no innovation in the gaming industry kind of hypocritical?
