It certainly wouldn't bother me - they are there to work after all, and should be allowed to do so in the best working environment that can be offered. I only wonder why OP asks.

Why would you be mildly annoyed if they turned your radio down if you were gone for over and hour and not listening to it anyhow? Just out of curiosity.

If i wasn't there then why should i care?
i'm in the wrong for leaving it on
when i'm there i'd appreciate them asking me rather than just doing it
but in your scenario i wasn't there for a reasonably substantial amount of time anyway

Sounds like you've got one crazy ***** for a co-worker. Hell, you said there were other people working there, why don't you try getting them on your side, you know, if she keeps freaking out at you? Sounds like it wouldn't be that hard.

Not at all? I'm not there, it is just a radio, who cares? I'd actually be even happier if they just turned it off or unplugged it...

Upon the charter signed during the cease fire agreement on April 27th 2011 of the war of Office Supplies, it is CLEARLY stated in verdict seven dash three that no outside party from the eastern side of the office may touch my radio. Hence fourth, I declare WAR!

It wouldn't bother me at all if they asked me to turn down the music. However it's my stuff and messing with it without my permission would bother me a bit. It shows a total lack of respect for my person and my things.

Still like I said, if they asked, no problem. They could even ask to change it to station we can all enjoy, or to use it when I am not around. Wouldn't bother me at all.
The question is if you aren't around and they turned it off. They can't very well ask permission if you aren't there.
Not to mention the fact that in a workspace there are probably going to be some people with differing music tastes. Having the radio on in the first place would be kinda inconsiderate, when everyone seems to have an iPod or MP3 or whatever that would do instead.
It isn't really much like someone walking into your house at all either. Its a public space. Not only that, people are trying to concentrate. They're well within their rights to sort things out for themselves if you aren't there.
Think how annoying/distracting it would be if someone left a TV on or some music that you don't like while you're all working. They leave, so you turn it off, but then they come back and get all pissy at you. They'd quickly be the most unpopular person in the room.

OT: No. For starters I'd listen to my iPod instead out of respect for the fact that most people don't like my music so much. It isn't exactly conducive to concentrating either. Read: lamb of god and meshuggah.

Its one of those "Don't touch my stuff!!! Okay...whatever, I'm over it." Reactions.

It would only bother me because they didn't have the levels of maturity needed to just ask me to turn it down/off.
How can they ask you if you aren't there?
I assume I didn't just turn it on and then instantly leave.

That is understandable but you would let it ruin your day.

No, the point isn't when you turned it on. It is that you left it on for whatever reason when you left and someone turned it off while you were unreachable.

I wouldn't mind unless they either changed the channel or actually had to go into my office to turn it down. If the door was open, sure, go for it if it's bothering you that much, but if the door is shut, I don't want anyone in there.

Nope. I always turn off my music in my dorm when I leave the room. But that's mostly because I play music that nobody likes but me. At least, on this campus. It would bother me if somebody left theirs on, so I expect nothing less from other people.

Common courtesy, as far as I'm concerned.

Not really, what would bother me if they took the radio to there spot and change the station from Rock to (C)rap.

I would find it a bit rude that they would wait until I get up to go to the bathroom or wherever to turn it down on me (I have to assume I would be returning quickly, otherwise I would have turned it off before leaving) instead of just coming over and saying "Hey, that's a bit loud, can you turn it down a little please?" while I was there. After all, I can't know it's too loud for other people if they don't tell me that it's too loud. But it wouldn't bother me enough to start anything over it. I'd just turn it back up if they put it down too low.

(So my vote is "Kinda, but I'm over it")

The question is if I leave and they turned it down. That means we were both there before I left, meaning they could have simply asked for it to be turned down while I was there.

EDIT: Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that in such situations, I also have the courtesy to ask the other people around me if it's too loud when I first turn it on and set the volume. So if they all say yes, there should not be a problem. So if they wait until I leave to turn it down (assuming the volume has stayed the same from the time they said it was fine until the time they turned it down), they not only didn't have the decency to ask that it be turned down, but they also lied when I asked if the volume was okay for them and they said it. Hence why I feel that person's actions would be rude. But again, I wouldn't go start a fight over it.

No, you aren't following. For whatever reason you left before you could be asked and the radio was on. You didn't announce you were leaving, and the other person didn't notice right away because they were working or maybe there is a divider between your desks but otherwise still in the same room. You have been gone for an extended period of time, not just to the restroom, supply room, meeting with your boss. You have left the building. So you radio or whatever you were listening to is turned down or off by the time you get back. That is the scenario at hand. The question is, does it bother you that it was turned off while you were gone?

Not for nothing, but this was supposing you were in the same room and had no door block entrance to your desk. Now if you had your music up so loud that it could be heard behind a closed door in a work environment, that is another can of worms.
