as long as my arms and legs weren't controlled by Vista, I'd be fine with it
"The device driver for your left leg is incompatible with your version of windows, would you like to send an error report?"

I'll take the cybernetic limbs please. I thought neural implants would be cool, until I realized whoever installs them could also add a killswitch, too. One false move and my melon could go up Scanners style. No thank you.

For fans of Ghost in the Shells, the human brain is kept intact in a shell, or cyborg encasing if you prefer, so yeah, like the developer of HAL-5 said, it's easier to use a human brain instead of an AI, hence Cyborg is possible.
eww, please don't bring up ghost in the shell. Thats what we DONT want to happen!

I beg to differ. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laughing_Man_(Ghost_in_the_Shell)] Although embracing cyberization so radically is a bad thing, integration of the Wired into human social systems can improve social and economic conditions [http://www.amazon.ca/Citizen-Cyborg-Democratic-Societies-Redesigned/dp/0813341981]. As Stand Alone Complex showed, technology does not override or erase human failings - merely these failings adapt to and integrate into the new technological framework. So long as there are heroes like the Laughing Man and others who choose to preserve individual rights (i.e. the moral hacker) then outright restraints on human technological integration need not be imposed.

back to the original poster's query - I'd be happy to modify both my mind and body, assuming such transhumanism can be done safely and without derogation from my quality of life. Cyberbrains? Sure, providing I don't drop 10 IQ points. Power-limbs? Fine and dandy, so long as I don't have to fret about hurting my grandma everytime I hug her. I'll probably keep the meat-body around for now, but as aging continues (my family DOES have a history of age-related health problems) I'm sure augmentation wouldn't be too objectionable to me.
I like you. You'll be my new best friend for a while before my Terminator programming overwhelms my sentimentality and I'll have to poison you in your sleep. Think of the paradigm shifts we will bring about!!!

Srsly now, I think being partly machine is a good thing. We've already become so proficient in our use of technology, the only next thing is to embrace it. It'll enhance our longevity to the point where death will be only be a genetic defect, like the appendix. And it will be glorious.

Yes. I would do anything possible to my body, make me stronger and bigger. As for my brain I'm a bit more conservative. I don't want anything that effects my thinking or values or the other things that make me me, but I would like improvements like more information or better memory or communication and such.

I would love to have improved memory; could you imagine all the knowledge you would know for sure your head could handle if we had that capacity? I could learn so much!

I'd pather have small parts replaced than whole limbs, my legs could go though. I'd be skeptical at first, but i'd likely end up as human as a microwave eventually.

I'd take robotic leg replacements, and I'd replace my right arm for punching, but I'd leave my left arm human, 'cause that's my writing arm. Everything else is staying as-is.

As long as it doesn't stop me from having and enjoying sex... BRING ON THE CYBERNETIC IMPLANTS!
I'm sure they'll make enhancements for that. I can't wait for the world to be cyber punk.
If you need cybernetic enhancements for sex... you're just doing it wrong.

It would be cool to have automail or super vision. Brain implants, maybe, but only to enhance and not fully integrated, as I don't want my mind controlled. I would like to indulge in my addiction to Tv tropes at any time.

You don't want your mind controlled, but you're a Troper? You do know that site does more damage to your free will (at least while you're there) than a vein full of Borg nanoprobes, right? You must...click...another...link...surfing away is futile. Your free time will be obliterated.

The only real issues that arise from complete overhaul of your body is that once your perceptions and memories are digital - There's no way to be assured everything you see or know is 'real' anymore.

I would only do arms and legs, and be like the most kickass shortie of all, Edward Elric... (But much, much taller)

I also would only do it if I lost my limbs in some freak accident, not take them off and put on some robo-hands. They must be super cold, and "cuddling" with my girl wouldn't be the same.

You know how government programs go on about the evils of drugs? I have now learned that crack is for pussies who don't want to commit. Now that I think about it, wiki's are generally addicting with all those alluring blue links all over the place.

I would love to have robotic implants. I can just imagine firing lasers from my palms or having jet thrusters on my feet. I would also have the ability to steal powers from my defeated enemies.

[small] I think I like Mega Man X little too much.[/small]
