if there is a way to find the real owner i give it back. however, if its not i dont bother. for instance, i have found over the last 3 years about 40 bucks and a ipod shuffle on the ground. no one came looking for them so i kept them.

I found a cell phone lying in the grass near where I used to live. I actually ended up calling the home number and they came to pick it up the next day. Turns out the guys daughter had hucked it out the window because she was pissed at the person she was talking to.

I would've returned it. But then again I know the difference between right and wrong. Your cousin on the other hand seems to lack that knowledge. And you too for helping him/her.

That's.....That's just evil. Why would your cousin keep it in the first place?

I proably would try returning it. Someone obviously needs the phone badly and they want it back. It's not mine to keep anyways.

i would send a text saying if they wanted it they'd have to come pick it up. I'm not gonna get off my butt any time soon.

Recently on a trip to a casino my cousin found a phone. clearly it was in someone's back pocket but it must have fallen out. Seeing how no one was looking for it near the ride/game she kept it.
Later on she makes ME delete everything pertaining to the woman who owned the phone. As I was forced into doing that, the owner sent a message: "we can't get back home without that phone, PLEASE bring it back."
I felt guilty and wanted to give it back but my cousin reminded me about how over half of that lady's stuff is gone forever and I might get arrested.

So of course my cousin got the phone but I scared the shit out of her by saying she can be tracked due to the gps on the phone. (there was no gps but my cousin still FLUSHED the SIM card)

My question is: Would any Escapist out there have done the same? (or returned it)

Also I highly doubt they couldn't have gotten home without a phone.
Your cousin is a ***** no offense to you and that cell phone could have belonged to a kid that got lost and now can't get a hold of his or her mother.

I HARDLY see her. After the nose incident were on "Christmas only, stay one room away from each other" terms. She came with us on the trip because apparently I needed someone to talk to my age and my mom got over her violent tendencies.
Plus before we dropped her off I gave her a "gift" so whenever she sees that scar she'll remember how horrible she acted.
You hardly see her, but she still manages to put you in this situation.
That girl needs to be brought down a few notches, or she will just end up causing more trouble and might drag you into it.
I'd steal the phone back and just get rid of it. It's not going to do the original owner any good at this point (and you have no way of contacting them I'd assume), but at least that brat cousin of yours wouldn't have it.

She is the perfect example of a manipulative *****. She convinced everyone that it wasn't a big deal, but then my phone was stolen I realize that she should have returned it.
If I could I'd throw that phone away, but I heard her parents took it for "misbehavior"

She does indeed sound like one.
Do they know of your involvement in the whole issue? If they do or if you don't think they'd hold it against you too badly, they should know that it was a bigger deal than your cousin says.
I'd make trouble for her, as I've had my fill of those types of people. No idea how everything has played out though, so it might not be an option for you.

I have my own phone and I like it. Karma's a ***** anyway so why not just give it back. Even if it's a flashy iPhone, 'cause they're worth a lot and I know how I'd feel if I lost one.

I'd have given the phone into lost and found and your cousin should feel damn guilty. She doesn't seem very moral to me.

Um...if I ever found a phone on the ground, and it wasn't mine? I'd turn it in to the nearest front desk, say that someone must have dropped it, and then leave.

Nobody made a big deal after she "explained" it.
However they didn't have to hear all those voice mails asking when the original owner was coming back. After listening to all those messages I decided not be like my cousin. Plus my dad explained to me a bit about kharma. My cousin is gonna get hers real soon and for my involvement my phone was stolen a week after this incident. Life goes on though.

are there any numbers left? if so, call the fuck out of them. tell them you found the phone and that the stuff had already been erased. who know, she/he might give you a reward(not sex).

Okay, come on... seriously? You are blaming the victim? "Its the girls fault for dropping it."... No one is to blame in something like this, least of all the victim.

I would have either left where it was [small](I know nothing and wouldn't gain anything bad from doing so)[/small] or searched for that person.
