If he/she isn't a flaming gay, and the game isn't terrible I'll play it. I don't really see how it matters, other than to concerned *cough* stupid *cough* parents who will overreact and try to make the game seem worse than it really is by bitching about how its trying to make their kids gay or something stupid like that.

I guess so. Though I have to say I'm strangely uncomfortable with gays in real life (I'm not opposed, I just have a few friends, and lets just say they have an awkward character).
But it would be very interesting if the character succeds, because I don't recall ever playing as a gay main character (lesbian or otherwise too). Though if the character is okay, if the execution sucks, then definitely no.

Unless it's an actual gameplay mechanic, I couldn't care less.

It makes no difference to me if they're straight, gay, bi, or some heretofore unknown sexual orientation. Just so long as the gameplay, story, and various other elements meet my standards.

If its like a Legend of Zelda game you wouldn't even know the main character was gay, until your near the very end of the game anyway. So it wouldn't really matter at all.

If it's a good game. I don't really see why it would matter at all if the main character was gay or not.

Well if the sexual orientation is noticable then I feel it matters for purposes of the gameplay and such.

In general I'm okay with the ideal of a lesbian but not so okay with the idea of a gay man. An attitude I figure is common among most heterosexual men in general, but in my case there is a bit more thought about it. As I've said before in other threads I feel gay men and lesbians are entirely differant cups of tea, despite efforts to blend them both together under the general heading of "homosexuality".

However just to be a punk, I will point out that you have already probably played gays without realizing it. Not due to undisclosed sexual orentation, but simply because most of us have probably played strategy games at some point where we have commanded armies of Greeks and/or Romans. They do call it "greeking" someone for a reason. :p

Who's to say that the protaganists from quite a few games aren't actually gay? The guy from CoD could very well have been gay as could the Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, Samus Aran, Gordon Freeman, the Doom Marine and Leon S Kennady.

Nothing ever says that they aren't gay so the possibility is always there (and if they were, would it make a difference?).

What? why does this even matter?

The only reason for a character to be gay is if the player makes them gay or if them being gay has heavy significance towards the plot.

Otherwise their sexuality is hardly an issue. Master Chief could be gay and it wouldn't make a difference.
Many American devs like to shove a female love interest into games, I'd think it would be interesting if it was a male love interest(mostly likely equally annoying though)

I'm pretty sure Leon is, with yelling at Claire in the RE3 memos, and shooting down Ashley, it seems pretty likely.

IT DOESN'T MATTER!!
Why do people seem to be thumping on this recently. The fact that a character is gay should have no relevance to the game. And honestly, I wouldn't play a game with gay sex scenes in it, and if you think about it that's really the only way you'd know if a character was gay....
