Couldn't think of a better way to word it but what i mean is,
IF immortality was made possible and anyone was allowed it on the condition that they were not allowed to produce any children (to stop over population) would you choose to become immortal?

-You would be age immortal meaning if you were careful you could live forever (jumping of a tall building will kill you)

No, I'd like children one day and I don't want to live forever plus if many people took this immortality pill it would destroy society. Think of all the benefits that are brought in by each new generation, less prejudiced and better adapted for the world they are born in, a world of immortals would be terribly boring as it would be completely static and nothing would ever change.

Also for those who are saying they would adopt, orphans aren't an unlimited supply, there may sadly be a massive surplus of them now but if suddenly a large section of the population becomes voluntarily sterile then those orphans are going to be snapped up pretty quickly and there won't many more afterwards due the said sterility.

As long as I don't mentally age either (like become some bitter old man with the body of a young man).
I've always thought that becoming bitter at old age is the direct consequence of physical aging.

Yes I would. I could always just adopt if I eventually wanted childern.

Why are you presenting this as if it's a difficult question?

This isn't a question that requires some deep personal search within oneself, like Kirk or Picard; would you rather live to see the end of the cosmos, or wipe shit off an infant's ass?

hmm... that's an interesting thought. I guess its hard to tell if being bitter is because of your personality or your physical condition. Anyways just as long as I don't become some emo, "I have lost all faith in humanity", antisocial, bitter prick. Because being pissy all the time gets old fast

Umm, yeah. I don't know what answer you were expecting from the Escapist community.

Most of these guys are very smart, but if there's one area where the Escapists are ignorant and intolerable, it's with kids. For some reason no one here understands that a child is a child.

OT: I think I'll be in the minority here when I say I like how I am. I don't care for immortality much, and one day I hope to have a little girl with someone I develop a relationship with.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and a little more yes.

Don't get me wrong I am sure having kids is lovely and if I was immortal there is a good probability that at some point i'ld be allowed to rear one with whichever partner I have at the time, and thus will be able to experience this.
But who on earth, aside from those with possible theological gripes, would deny biological immortality?

If one is going to live forever then the world truly is your oyster, and it frees up a hell of a lot of free time.

I guess only if I had someone to be immortal with, like a partner, husband, something like that. Living out eternity alone would really suck. Like the legend of the eight-hundred year old priestess.
