This is not a vs thread, i just need help in solving this conundrum i am in.

I am relatively new to consoles, i game primarily on PC. But now i want to expand my horizons so to speak.
Currently the main game i am interested in is Red Dead Redemption(word is that the xbox version is less buggy than the ps3 one). Not interested in Kinect or any of those gimmicky motion games. I have an HDTV and ps3 does have a built in bluray player and ships with an HDMI cable too.

Both consoles have wireless capabilities so i can network with my PC. Both are also somewhat similarly priced and look nice.

Now i am not sure about the selection of games on either consoles, but i am never getting FPSs' for consoles. I have played Little Big Planet and it is flippin awesome, but i need more than that for me to determine my choice.

So yeah, your opinion would be appreciated.

In terms of non FPS games, PS3 has more "good" games.
Red Dead Redemption, God of War 3, Jak games, Ratchet and Clank games, Little Big Planet, etc.

I'd get the Xbox 360, but look on the Internet for one of the earlier PS3s that has PS2 backwards compatibility, because I think the "Fats" are much better than the "Slims".

If you don't care for FPS', Liked LBP and are interested in Bluray, it sounds like you've already made up your mind to get a PS3. It has slightly better exclusives (IMO), and any multiplatform games should be perfectly serviceable on the PS3 as well. I play my 360 a hell of a lot more because more of my friends are on XBL, but if that doesn't matter to you, the PS3 is probably a better choice.

PS3 slim definitely. It will be a smooth transition plus steamworks is coming to PSN. If you like LBP then LBP 2 is coming and there is also modnation racers. And PS3 is also getting some cool MMOs like DC Universe online and The Agency. Last Guardian is coming soon and lets not forget Gran Turismo 5. I own both consoles but I love my PS3 more. Mass Effect is the only thing I have for 360 and some kids games my bro plays on there.

my two cents, do what you wish with them, :D

Okay, before my head explodes, these aren't exclusives. They all exist on the PC too. Which he has. Which therefore means that getting a 360 for a gimped version of a game he could get (and probably already has) on PC is foolish.

OP: Get a PS3. If there's anything the 360 does, it's FPS and TPS games. Which you don't appear to be interested in.

You can put whatever laptop hard-drive you want into a PS3, so if you want to connect up and share content, you can probably do that more with a PS3. Blu-ray capabilities are a given plus. And personally, PS3 exclusives blow 360 exclusives out of the water (for me anyways). Most "360 exclusives" come out on PC as well, so it's obvious what platform to get those games for if you want them.

360 slim ads say it has built-in wireless and is kinect ready.
PS3 ads say it does everything.

So do you want built-in wireless and kinect or everything?

Beyond the commercials, the 360 offers nothing the PS3 can't do already (and better in most cases). Exclusive wise, you have Halo 3 and Gears of War* vs a lot more than I care to list. All else fails, flip a coin.

*Games like L4D2 and Crackdown 2 are NOT XBox exclusives due to the fact they are also on PC. They aren't exclusive if they are availiable elsewhere.

yeah if you have a pc, then ps3 slim is probably the way to go, dont get me wrong, xbox 360 has its place with me and it has its exclusives, but to really enjoy the non fps games of consoles..probably go with ps3

now when you mean fps, some people group third person shooters with in with that..but ps3 has some good ones, so perhaps check those out.

otherwise

god of war 3
demon souls
modnation racers
lbp2 (coming soon)
ratchet and clank games
psn store games (such as the ff games on ps1 or some other goodies from the past)

My apologies, I kind of skimmed through and skipped over the PC.
And in terms of non-PC games, they are 360 exclusives. Sorry to make you get all knit-picky, I suppose I need to read more next time.

Agreed, however I could care less about any type of motion control game interface at this point.

I'd get a PS3 "fat" instead of a slim, if you're going for PS3.

I have both, and while I love them both pretty equally. I have more games for and I use the 360 more. But that's because I love RPGs and the 360 has a few of the best: Mass Effect, and Fable II primarily.

I don't think I can help much. But for what it's worth LBP was the game that made me get my PS3, it's power is that great.

Though, if you follow the gimmick crowd, the Move looks miles better than the (shudders) Kinect.

You should get what a lot of your friends have, so you can play online with them.

Edit: Also, you can play psn for free, while xbox live will charge you $50 a year.

I care not either. But it is odd that Kinect uses a port that is not on any of the non-slim Xboxes. So when it does come out, not only will you have to fork out $150 for Kinect, but likely at least $50 for an adapter IF they make one. You may be forced to shell out $200 more for a slim if they decide to not make an adapter.

I won't get that or Move, but at least Move doesn't require a special adapter that may or may not be made.

Well as a pc gamer you probably have these bioware games already. The only other noteworthy xbox exclusive would be forza. I would go for the ps3 since its ip's are a bit more fun

Killzone 2 and Resistance 1-2 are bad games?

Wonder why I'm still playing them hmmm?
Did I ever say that? No.
But the OP asked for non FPS games, so I didn't give him any.

360 is pretty much the console for console based FPS, so I would go with the PS3. I've got 6 games and only one of them is an FPS and all of them are great. Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 2, inFamous, and Metal Gear Solid 4. That should convince you right there. Plus, most of the 360 games that I and nearly everyone else plays are FPS.

PS3. You can play online for free and most games that aren't available for PS3 you can get on PC. Plus PS3 has the better exclusives anyway IMO.

If you ain't getting FPS'es then the decision is too easy. PS3.

Also since you're AUS I've no idea what the offer on PS Plus is, but if its the same as Europe you can also get a great start on the console by buying 1 year subscription to plus instead of spending it on a game. You get Little Big Planet for free (forever) and new games every month that you keep while your subscription is active (LBP and Wipeout HD for 50$ is already awesome)
